Bluegrass Homewrecker Double IPA

Bluegrass Homewrecker Double IPA

The beer formerly known as Ultra, our double IPA. A nice malt backbone and warming alcohol, take a supporting role to the massive hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. Distinctly American, with Cascade, Simcoe and Columbus hops, 6 different additions during the boil and then the hot wort is strained through 15# of fresh whole hops. If you like hoppy beers give it a try, if you don’t you can probably use it to degrease your engine.

3.0 On tap at bbc, good aroma and taste, but a very thin mouth feel... good beer just not the quality of highend dpa’s
4.0 Draught. Pale copper colour, small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, some fruity and floral notes. Also some honey and nectar. Flavour is very similar, but has a rather strong grassy bitterness to it. Dry palate. Fresh, balanced and smooth.
3.6 Pint in an Irish pub on baxter st. Clear, red-amber dark copper with large off-white head and very good lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, caramel, tropical fruit and sweet candied fruit. Taste of caramel, tropical fruit, grapefruit and cane sugar. Full/medium body and low carbonation.
3.4 Draft to taster at BBC. Looks solid; a transparent burnt-orange with sticky off-white lacing. Smells and tastes of bitter hops with a sweet (overly) malty backbone. Average on the palate. Enjoyable, but forgettable.
3.7 Tap at 3rd & Main location, Sweet caramel malt, sweet orange, and vanilla aroma. Light amber with a large creamy head, creamy lacing. Sweet caramel malt and orange hops aroma. Full body. Very malt forward, and I would have never guessed it to be a DIPA. Nice.
3.8 Draft. Orange caramel malt and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet creamy caramel and strongly bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Nice malty double IPA.
3.3 21st February 2011 Very hazy dark amber beer, small cream coloured head. Softish palate. Sweet creamy malt. Aniseed alcohol. A little marmalde hops. Drinkable but really needs more hops and less obvious alcohol,.
3.5 Draft at the Broadway location. Pretty nice overall with a long lingering bitterness and hint of caramel too. Not overpowering or harsh.
3.2 Draft at Bluegrass. Murky copper with a creamy off white head. Aroma of toffee, fruity esters, citrus and floral hops. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, fruity yeast esters and a medium hop bitterness, some alcohol heat too. Medium body with a syrupy mouth feel. Not bad but really sweet for me, my wife loved it.
3.6 On tap at Mikkeller. It pours a clear, amber body and a finger-thick, dense, off-white head leaving lacings. The aroma is sugary, malty and lightly peachy, witha faint note of licorice, fennel maybe, and some alcohol whiffs. Sweetness, fruit-caramel, peach notes and resins in the flavor, along with a decent bitterness. Full-bodied and almost sticky, yet it feels dryish. Warming too. Dry, piney and bitter finish. Overall, too sweet, but at least it has enough bitterness to prevent if from being cloying. 110528
3.4 light hoppy aroma, amber, hazy, none foam, light sweetness, medium bitterness, medium body, oily feel, soft carbonation, nice soft hoppy finish.
3.1 Amber coloured and clear .Has an off-white head, mostly lasting. Aroma is hoppy, herbal, resin. Flavor starts moderate sweet and finish moderate bitter. Dry, creamy texture and soft carbonation. A bit unharmonic.

3.6 Bottle at Mikkeller bar. Golden-orange colour with an off-white head. Aroma is hop, malt, grass. Flavour is hop, malt, grain, grass, alcohol, citrus, pine. Nice beer.
3.4 750ml from Liquor Barn, Louisville. Big thick and quite creamy body, a chalky layer of foam sitting on top of a semi-cloudy deep orange. Nose is sharply boozy, with tons of malts, and I wondered initially how much age this one had on it. But it turned out to have plenty of hop bitterness still dialed up, and while the taste was slightly too aggressive and not sufficiently balanced, it was still decently enjoyable.
3.4 So good, but the description above is all you need to read. I would drink again but certainly not a double that would hold up to the best of the best. A citrus bomb with pine resin sticky taste. I dig
3.7 De barril. Deep golden colour, nice white like head. Lots of hoppy pine sweetness citrus in the aroma. Good mouthfeel. Flavour has plenty of hops, sweet, pine, citrus, ripe fruit, good bitterness indeed. Dry fruity piney sweet citrus finish. Yum!
3.3 not the best DIPA. it lacks some of the fruity tones of others. very bitter, and a fair amount of alcohol warming. a bit watery and lacks the hop bite i’d expect. decent beer, just didn’t meet the expectations.
3.4 Pours pale amber with lush 1 finger head. Aroma is toasty barrel, caramel, candy hops; quite pungent. Taste is roasted caramel and resin. Very malt forward; as the bartender informed me, this brewery’s water has virtually no hardness so none of the hops come through. Tastes like an average homebrew I made once. Body is medium with average carbonation. Overall, the barrel aging on this is not overdone but it still lacks something. Smooth drinking, however.
3.0 Hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma of fruit, caramel and butter. Sweet and fruity flavour with sharp hops. More than a bit of homebrew feel to this.
3.7 Tap @ Mikkeller Bar, Cph. Hazy orange with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good duration. Mild hoppy aroma, light resin, some pine, strawberries, peach. Highish carbonation, small bubbles. Fine oily and dry mouthfeel. Flavour has big hoppy bitterness. Lots of resin, chewy candy oranges, strawberry, pine, piney. There is a honey-like quality to the very bitter and dry finish. A very nice beer, actually.
3.9 On tap @ Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Deep ruby-hued orange, medium white head. Aroma is very fruity, with peaches, strawberry and apricot. Hints of kiwi. Absolutely lovely. Taste is more fruit: mango, apricot and sweet kiwi tones. Very nice indeed; gotta love a fruity DIPA and this is a prime specimen. Nothing too special, just plain good. This one is a bit underrated for sure.
3.8 Hazy amber/brownish with a small White head. Juicy grape and mandarine aroma, like a candy gummibaer. The aroma collies All the way throughout flavor and finish, making this a very reliable hop dominated ale. Its balanced by alchohol, bit in the end its a reallyrefreshing wellbalanced powerhop American ipa
