3.5 One of the beers I’ve had on many occasions and never got around to rating. 2010 vintage. Just on cool and into a shallow chalice. Gentle pour raises a looming, fluffy white crown that leaves a thick lace. Body a deep orange gold and sparkling with fine, streaming carbonation. Bouquet of tropical fruit esters stabbing at Starburst™ fruit candy greets the nose first. An underlying waft of rose water, Belgian yeast, pear drops, dusty malt and honey joins the pleasantries adding depth. All candied fruit, sweet and tangy, upfront with a light touch of malt and yeast mid-palate before a bitter fruit finish. Mild warming alcohol fades it out with no real length shown. Good body, nice rounded mouthfeel. Becomes drabby as it warms, so a little chill in it might be the way to go. Overall a pleasing, fruity Belgian for the Summer months. (75cL, BB 12/10/11, Cellarbrations Kinross)
3.6 4/30/12. 750mL bottle. Slightly hazy golden pour, borderline orange, with a nice creamy, thick, barely off-white head that laces in big rings. Yeasty, fruity, bubblegum, estery aroma with touches lf light sugar. Slightly sweet entry with plenty of yeast and a hint of sugars, but the mid and finish are quite dry. Lingers dry, slightly fruity, and yeasty. Not bad.
3.0 Bottle. Cloudy gold/brown pour. Small white head. There was a decent amount of sediment in the form of brown flakes. Floral and citrus hops. Lively, almost sharp palate.
3.8 Pours a cloudy orange-gold color with quick diminshing white head. Aroma is fruity and cereal malts. Taste is complex; Cloves, banana and honey up front Moderate hop presence that balance out the sweetness nicely. Finish is a little bit astringent. Overall, I am impressed. Very drinkable. I’ve been selling this for 5 years and this is my first taste but for 12 bucks a bottle it may be awhile before I taste this one again.
3.2 750ml "Monsters" Bottle: Aroma of malt, Belgian yeast, fruit, and caramel. Poured amber/gold in color with a small to medium-sized, loose, white head that diminished but became creamy and dense over time. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of small and medium-sized particles throughout. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of malt, Belgian yeast, banana, grain, light caramel, light hops, and light spices. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, Belgian yeast, banana, spice, hop finish is dry. 7.2%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
3.1 From notes. First reviewed 10/3/2011. Poured from a 22 oz. ceramic Monsters bottle into a tulip. Out of a very unique ’Monsters’ flip top ceramic bottle, this pours a hazy golden tangerine color. Lots of resplendent carbonation refreshes a creamy white head. Initially a large cap rests on top, but a thinner film remains for the duration of the glass. Nice lace down the sides of the glass. The aroma is fairly sweet. White grape and green apple work with a honey sweet pale malt to provide this effect. The flavor is fairly sweet as well. A gentle honey sweetness and bready malt carries the flavor into the fruit. White grapes and green apples and then a vague spiciness. The end of the sip has a slightly medicinal flavor and remains sweet. The body of this beer is on the fuller side of medium. The carbonation is soft and creamy smooth. A grainy feel exists in each sip. Without a ton of complexity, this ends up being a fairly plain, fairly sweet Belgian Strong Pale Ale. The best thing about it is the bottle. But since that was the reason I picked it up in the first place, I don’t really have much to complain about.
4.2 cereal, herbs, basement aromas, banana, vanilla, orange, minimal head, frothy, brown foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, creamy, full body, astringent,
2.8 Ceramic Monster bottle pours a hazy golden brown with a medium white fluffy head. Aroma is Belgian yeast. Taste has a musky dry flatness surround by Belgian spices, some lemon and floral. I’m not gonna lie, I bought this for the bottle.
3.0 Slightly hazy straw yellow color with small white head. Yay!!! A beer that doesn’t look like poop for once tonight, and one that actually has a little bit of a head on it. Two firsts in one pour. Fruity and floral aroma with all the typical belgian esters, but also a touch of lemon and potpourri. Taste is slightly grainy, slight nutmeg/clove and cinnamon. Meh. Just nothing that makes this beer interesting. It reminds me of every generic belgian ale with nothing that makes me want to drink this again. I’d take a duvel over it every day that ends in "day".
3.2 Monster bottle from pikapp327. Light orange pour with a big white head. Aroma is grass, musty, yeast, and awkward. Taste is cinnamon, spice, clove, and yeast.
2.2 Bottle from pikapp327. Big ceramic monster bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow golden color with a white head. Peanuts and popcorn on the nose. Dusty as well. Flavor is Belgian yeast with a very dry finish.
3.3 (750ml ceramic fliptop bottle) clear pale yellow with a thick meringue like head that reminds of Duvel. Nose is floral and sweet malts, spices. Tastes like Duvel also, light bittering hops, sweet and floral with a bit of an odd umami flavor.
3.9 750mL ceramic snap cap bottle. Pours hazy golden color with white head and nice lace. Aromas of yeast and spice. Tastes of sweet malt and spice with a medium hop bitterness. Not quite as easy drinking as some other Belgians.
3.2 jug with a bb of 28/4/14 at dak’s 8/14/10. hazy brownish shade of yellow with a soft white head. it smells like a mix of lemon, flowers, yeast, honey, wood and doughy malt; it tastes the same only sweeter. meh. 6/3/6/3/14
2.9 Appearance: Pours a clouded, milky yellow body with a modestly-sized, fizzly white head. Smell: Aroma of lightly grainy malts and sugary cereals. Slim notes of lemon zest, meadow flowers, spice, and white peaches, which attaches to a waft of alcohol giving a little sniff of schnapps. Taste: Light pale maltiness, perhaps a bit of pils in the mix, with a moderate sweetness to it. A sousing with water, then a slip of alcohol. Fruitiness of white peaches and soft lemon. Only a slight bitterness is felt. vague peppery spiciness. A bit of enduring sweetness for the lightly acidic, lightly warming finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A beer that never really grabbed me, instead one I just got through, like paying bills or doing the laundry. I found it to be less than appealing and pretty forgettable. You might like it though!
3.1 Light orange coloured, a good sized head. Smell is malts, spiced, a bit earthy. Very soft, malts, light hopped, spiced. Misses a boost.
3.2 (750ml ceramic bottle, courtesy of thirdeye11) Pours a clear golden body with a moderate white head. Aroma of yeast, perfume, wet leather, and citrus. Flavor of yeast, earth, and dough.
3.4 Crock, thanks to thirdeye11, yellow color with a nice sweet cinnamon, malty fruit and sugar aroma and flavor
3.8 750ml ceramic bottle - thanks to Thirdeye11. Pours nice and frothy - smells of banana, honey, and bread. Clear, slightly sweet, and a bit funky. Quite enjoyable, I went back for a bit more of this one.
3.6 Cloudy gold with a fluffy white head. Sweet aroma of honey, malt, spice and yeast. Flavor is light with some honey, yeasty, spices, bread. Pretty good.
3.3 Awesome high-fire ceramic flip-top bottle (500ml). Pours golden and bright with an immense white head that was foamy and tight in areas and soapy with big bubbles in others. Fruity sweet aroma. Banana and sweet grainy pilsner malt. A bit delicate. Overall - decent.
3.2 Clear and light yellow with a head of lots of big bubbles. Aroma is yeasty and citrusy. Taste has the Belgian, twangy edge to it mixed with unidentifiable spices. The finish has clean tastes of light fruit. A good Belgian, but not my favorite style.
3.4 This beer pours a muddy dull yellow with a thick white head. The aromas are lemon, yeast, light skunk. The mouthfeel is watery and slightly sweet with a bitterness on the end. Not a great beer but drinkable. Cheers!
4.0 New "Monsters" design.....Pours a clear light gold with large foamy white head. Aroma is filled with light fruity esters, yeasty, with a nice light malty profile. Flavor doesn’t stray far with an added light touch of sweetness, notes of white pepper, little grass, nice hop profile with a balanced bitter in the end. Mouth feel is light-medium body with fizzy carbonation. Overall, I really enjoyed this.
3.4 Bottle. Pours cloudy orange with a mild, white head. Notes of malt, caramel and spices in the nose. Flavor is sweet with more caramel, along with some yeast and light spices. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Finishes sweet with some more maltiness. Decent.
3.7 Ceramic/stone bottle: Had this one a while ago and really enjoyed it. Off white foamy head with a light hazy, dark yellow to orange body. Smell lots of fruit (lemon, orange, banana), some light spices, hints of wheat, yeast and bread. Taste is a pretty fresh, bitter and sweet mix of: fruits, hops, sweets, spices, yeast, honey, wheat and hint of malts.
3.2 Dark cloudy honey brown color with no head or carbonation. Very spicy and yeasty with a honey sweetness and some doughy malt. Very tasty but I would have preferred maybe a bit of carbonation.
3.4 To be honest, I homebrew so I was first drawn to this beer by the nifty bottle. I do enjoy Belgian beers though and this one did not disappoint. However, for a Belgian, it was on the lower end of the spectrum. For an overall beer it still ranks on the upper end of the spectrum. Mine was very smooth with almost no carbonation (almost like a Cask pour), very cloudy and strong yeast overtone.
3.5 Thanks superdave! Bottle pours gold with a frothy white head. Aroma is light fruit and yeast. Flavor is sweet with honey, cracker, and some paper. Body is creamy and soft with a dry finish. Not too shabby.
3.6 Bottle thanks to Superdave. Cloudy gold, fluffy white head. Honey, malty, spicy. Flavor is light and fluffy with some honey, yeasty, spices, bready notes. Pretty good. Thanks DAVE!
