Boltens Alt

Boltens Alt

3.8 Highly quaffable Altbier.
3.1 Standard Alt. Clear brown with a decent white head. Some malts, some bitterness, but after all rather mild. Quite drinkable, but closer to average rather than the top.
2.9 Dark bread, multicereal aromas and taste. A bit sweet . Not my thing
3.7 Buona birra per la categoria. Bevuta in bottiglia. Colore ambrato limpido. Schiuma consistente. Al palato gusto tipico delle birre Alt, finale secco econ retrogusto di caffè.
3.4 Draft @ some Greek tavern in Lobberich. Dark copper/amber with a nice white/beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, earthy hops and nuts. Taste is malts, caramel, nuts with a moderate hoppy aftertaste without being bitter. Medium carbonation. Smooth and easy drinking. It's a decent Alt alright but just slightly above the average.
3.8 Bottle at home. Pours clear copper with small cream coloured head. Aroma of caramel, dark bread, coffee, roasted malt. Taste slightly sweet with some roasted bitterness. Bitter finish. Thin bodied.
3.6 Pours a clear, mahogany coloration with a reddish tint and a medium, creamy head. Smells of caramel malt, dark bread and a certain grassy, earthy note coming through as well. Taste follows the nose exactly, being dominated by bready, caramel malt, dark bread and underlying grassy, earthy, mineral notes. A hint of smoke and spice coming through as well. Finishes with a light bitterness and a little sweetness as well. The dark bread is strong here, making this smell and taste almost like liquefied Schwartzbrot and giving it a certain grainy quality as well as notes of caramel and spice. A decent Alt, neither the best nor worst I've had.
3.7 This is the third altbier I've had, and it's up there with the Schlosser Alt, which I liked (I didn't like the Uerige Alt so much). But this one has its differences, coming from outside Dusseldorf, being made in the town of Korschenbroich. It is browner and sweeter, with a less hoppy character; in some ways it resembles for me some of the lighter Munich dark lagers, such as the Mittenwalder Jager Dunkel. It has the same sweet, malty aroma and taste, with chocolate notes coming in. I tasted none of that in the two Dusseldorf alts. It's harder for an alt to impress a British drinker than other styles of German beer, because this brownish ale style--which goes back to the "old" style of ale brewing that pre-dates the lager revolution in Germany--is similar to brewing traditions in Britain, which has never been a lager-brewing nation. So while this is an excellent, enjoyable brown beer, there are many fine British brown beers to challenge it. Though the later stages of brewing are done in cool conditions, lager style, it's hard for me to class this with lagers, as it tastes more like brown ale--even if it does edge into a continuum with the lighter end of the Bavarian dark lager tradition, But I enjoyed it very much.
3.8 Bottle. Chocolate brown, really fluffy tan head, slowly dissipates. Bready aroma, classic spilled beer aroma. Mild taste, dry bitterness, some sweet bread flavor. Dry finish a little suruppy. Really enjoyable alt, I'd come back to this one.
3.8 0.5l bottle. Amber body with an off-white head. Aroma and taste of caramel, toast, orange zest and some floral hops. The finish is a bit metallic, but still a nice alt.
2.9 Tiefe Bernsteinfärbung, malzig-brotiger Duft mit Noten von Karamell. Dabei unkompliziert, süffig-mild, rund.
3.4 Bottle, which states that Boltens is the oldest Alt (old) beer brewery in the world, dating back to 1266. 4.9%. Looks good: clear amber with an off-white creamy head which persists. Aroma and taste bread-dough, some dried fruit sweetness, medium body, creamy bitter finish. At 75c a bottle, good value for casual drinks.

3.6 I had to grow into alt. on the first few tries, te bottel ended in the sink. Now it has become a beer that's Always in my fridge. Usually this one
3.4 From the barrel, at some shitty dive bar next to our hotel, Düsseldorf, 11.10.17. Clear dark golden brown with a frothy head. Malt and some nuts and rather earthy aroma, bitter, cereals and a little bit of caramel taste. Medium-to-full body, sweetish malty finish and fair fizz.
3.5 01-10-17 // 500ml bottle. Brownish colour. Smooth, sweet malty, caramel, some Toffee, sweetbitter finish. Good Alt.
2.9 0.33 l bottle from local ’trinkgut’, best before December 2017. Clear, dark reddish amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish, slightly malty, bready and a bit fruity aroma of caramel, bread, nuts and hints of raisins. Moderately sweet, slightly malty, a bit fruity taste of caramel, toasted nuts and a touch of raisins, followed by a short, slightly bitter, quite dry finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pretty boring and average Alt, quaffable but I don’t really like it.
3.5 Bottle. Brown colour, rocky head that diminishes after a while. Aroma is intensive dark bread and nuts. Light bitterness, slight sweetness. Light body, medium carbonation. Very good.
3.5 Helder bruin bier met mooie schuimkraag. Smaak is bitter hoppig en licht zoet met iets van hooi, gras en bittere chocolade. Erg mooi alt bier.
