Boltens Ur-Alt

Boltens Ur-Alt

4.2 Einfach lecker
3.3 Bottle bought cold at tge brewery shop and sampled a few hours later in a hotel near Essen. Clear nutty brown and then murky. Aroma begins as damp cellar and then becomes nutty. Bitter taste with nuts and the slightest caramel, lively carbonation, medium body and a nice bittersweet nutty finish. Not bad.
4.0 Being brought up on Altbier I cannot be regarded as 100% objective, regarding my overall evaluation of Altbier in general. Bolten's is among my favorites.
3.0 Bottle shared thanks to kermis. Hazy brown with off white head. Light nuts, cardboard, rye bread, light dough, quite herbal with some dried grass, bit of roast. Light sweet and almost medium bitter. Just medium bodied. OK.
3.1 Light brown coloured with a good slightly off-white head that shows good persistence and lacing. Quite weak, malty aroma shows caramel, nuttiness and a hint of chocolate. Taste follows the aroma with medium to high sweetness and slight hints of bitterness (leafy/tea) in the finish. Overall much sweeter than your average altbier and perhaps not that true to style. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Overall enjoyable but quite unsignificant.
3.5 Bottle shared at home from the source. Brown with a tan head. Aroma of malt, toffee, caramel, nutty notes and light woody notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

3.7 L: -pours a slightly hazy copper-red with a small to medium, foamy, offwhite head -medium carbonation visible S: -caramel,chocolate,milky,raisins,grainy T: -grassy,spicy,earthy,caramel,nutty -medium bitterniss for the style F: -medium carbonation -light to medium body O: Good Altbier, that can’t quite match it’s great Düsseldorf Counterparts from Uerige,Schlüssel,Schumacher & Füchschen.
3.1 Pours a beautiful hazy, nut brown color with a huge, slightly beige head. Has aromas of bakers chocolate, gently toasted hazelnuts, toffee and dried peas. Drinks supersoft with an effervescent finish, displaying a perfect balance between its malt foundation and a dryer, leaf defined finish. Tastes of dry leafes from the very beginning, entangled into toffee malts, earth, whole grain bread, glazed toffee and toasty grain hulls. Its initial dryness maintains throughout but gets effectivly balanced by the complex malts till the finish, in which the beer appears a bit watery. Awesomly balanced, quite tasty but too thin after mid palate to convince entirely.
3.2 Dark brown beer with a frotty head and a fresh-bitter aroma. Taste is fresh with a little sourish bitter taste and aftertaste.
2.7 Brown, beige head, grainy aroma, toffee, caramel, flavor of toffee, woody smoke, wood, roast, light ash, fun, medium bodied.

3.7 0,5l Flasche. Dunkelbraunes Bier mit großer beiger Schaumkrone. Geruch nach Hefe. Geschmack nach Caramelmalz mit einer frischen Hopfenherbe.
3.1 500ml swing-top bottle, 4.9%, BB Jan 2016 as ’Boltens Ur-Alt unfiltriert’. Murky, muddy brown, opaque, small thin off-white head. Aroma is wholemeal bread crusts, flour, savoury scone, touch of buttered popcorn. Body is light, tingly carbonation, quite smooth. Taste is bready, light salt, dark sugars. Burnt caramel finish. Has quite a traditional vibe, and I like that aspect. Quite enjoyable. A bit fizzy, leading to much belching.
3.3 clear brown with a fine head. subtle aroma of caramel, with hints of grassy hops. slightly sour, but balanced taste. good finish.
2.5 At a tasting, thanks Erzengel, small stable bubbly head, murky lightish brown color, aroma of almond and candy with earthy mushrooms, flavor of candy cardboard and wet wood, medium coarse bitterness. Not the best of alts, a bit past it’s prime.
2.2 Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks tomer. Hazy amber to brown color with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, cardboard, some skunkiness. Sweetish flavor with malt, caramel, dark bread, cardboard, and a bitterish finish. Light to medium-bodied.
3.4 500ml flip-top bottle at hom from trade with Erzengel, many thanks. BB 10/2015. dark brown / redish color, medium big off-white head. smells fruity, peach, bread, spices, tobacco. light body, light carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. tastes of bread, spices, tobacco, citric notes, nuts, light well hidden fruit notes, plums again. finishes with bread and tobacco. not too special but drinks quite well, would drink again.
2.6 Bottle, 500 ml courtesy of and shared with Miro. Pours brown, off white head. Caramel malty, light bodied, light roastiness. some bitterness in the end.
2.0 Muddy brown semitransparent color with an instant decaying foam head. The smell has some roasty malt notes. The taste is malty, a bit roasted and with nut aromas. A bit too much carbonation.
3.3 Clear deep copper, quick fading cream head. Grains, cereals, beech wood and light hoppiness. Refreshing taste, hint if beef soup, learher, fresh hops and grain.
3.1 0,5 l swingtop bottle from P&M Getränke, best before 08/06/2015 (4.9% abv). Slightly hazy, orangeish amber with a medium large, foamy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Pleasant aroma of caramel, bread and nuts, even a bit of coffee in the background. Sweetish taste of nuts, bread and caramel. Short, slightly bitter finish with minimally metallic hints. Medium body, slightly creamy texture, lively carbonation. Pleasant, easily drinkable and harmonic but without something special. Just abolutely solid.
3.0 Pours a hazy orange/brown with a light tan head. The taste is roasted malt, earth, some fruit. The taste is in line with the nose ending a bit dry and slightly bitter. Light+, a bit grainy with average carbonation.
