Boon Oude Geuze

Boon Oude Geuze

Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

3.8 Amber pour with no head and pleasing fizz on contact with the glass. Lots of sediment in the glass. Sour malt and lemon on the nose. Really dry and sour with sherbert and lemon notes on the palate. Really bloody good.
1.5 Goût du vin blanc acide

4.1 Part of Christmas Belgian Beer 6-pack, nice, sour, refreshing and tasty, everything you need.
3.2 Golden colour. Sour berries. A bit new and strange for me, but very interesting and good taste.
3.5 Bottle from Edeka Hamburg - hazy pale golden color, white head. Sour, tart, barn. Body is quite slim, some hay and wheat malts here. Neither bitter nor sweet. Great gueze.
4.0 Bottle 2018/2019 drinked in 2021. Highly carbonated, slightly cloudly. Aroma: barnyard, hay, sockets, goat. Taste sour and tangy, but clearly sour, not like in sourkraut or pickles. No horse, no bitterness. Good and interesting.
3.6 Aroma; scents from sour berries, fermented sour fruits, fruit acids, malt notes, leaves, attic, wine like notes. Look; off white head, on veiled golden orangeish body. Taste; flavours from sour berries, fermented sour fruits, fruit acids, malt notes, leaves, attic, wine like notes, wood, almond, and finishes juicy dry. Feel; good dryish body and fresh co². Overall; geuzish. [from bottle, b@ hypermkt, T@home waiting²]
3.4 Didn't initially like it. But it didn't down nicely; certainly only a few at a time. Can imagine a pretty terrid hangover beer!
4.1 A good value for money wine, stable, leather taste is very good, low acidity, good as a ration
3.5 Bottle from Waitrose. Hazy deep golden colour. Tart fruity citrus aroma and taste crisp medium body.
3.3 Bottle. A- Musty, oak. A- Copper orange color, cloudy liquid, off white head. T- Oak, lemon, slightly metallic. P- Medium body, average texture, medium carbonation, balanced finish. O- About 7 years old. I did notice more oak and citrus in this compared to the slightly older lambics I had. This was decent but one of those beers that if I had had as my first example of the style, I probably wouldn't have been to excited to venture on.
2.8 Pours a slightly hazy amber from a bottle, nicely carbonated with a full head. I have to admit, I have hyposmia recently so senses are acting differently than they used to. Aroma (for me) is a faint grapefruit/nail polish remover. Flavor is mostly bitter pith, almost medicinal quinine. Very thin. Despite this it is light and not totally unpleasant, just feel like I'm missing out on something. This was a 2017-2018 season.
3.8 375ml bottle from 2016-2017 season, brought from Waitrose in Jersey. Pours amber with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of apples, gooseberries & Brett yeast. Medium body. Slightly dry sour finish. Highly enjoyable
3.8 2017-2018 edition from the Belgian Beer Discovery Box for cancelled Christmas 2020. Lightly hazy golden-orange colour with transparent particles floating all-around, as carbonation is quite intense. The head seemed frothy, bubbly at first, but ended up creamy and very long lasting. Some real nice patchy creamy-foamy lacing is left on the glass. Fresh apple aromas with some gooseberry notes, hints of Belgian sugars and Brett earthiness. Slick mouthfeel with some creaminess from the head. Decent sourness in the taste with the milder apples and berries. Short finish, slightly dry. A Oude Geuze that is fairly easy to drink and all well-blended. Not bug punches in your mouth.
3.6 Aroma: Sour berries and sour apples. Flavour: Fruity sour with green apples and a fruity sour finish. Colour: Golden amber with a white head.
3.6 Hay, fruity, bit smokey aroma. Amber color, hazy with frothy head. Medium bitterness, light salty. Bit dry and sticky body.
4.1 Piwo leżakowane 7 lat (2014-2021). Piana mało obfita, szybko się redukuje niemal do zera. Barwa ciemne złoto, klarowne, przy dnie trochę płatków drożdży. W aromacie przyjemnie kwaskowe, przejrzałe owoce, jabłko, gruszka, cytryna, odrobina kiszonki, odrobina stajni, białe wino, jasny słód. W smaku wytrawne, cierpkie, nie mocno kwaśne. Wyraźnie dzikie, sporo przejrzałych owoców, trochę ananasa, gruszki, albedo. Posmak białego, wytrawnego wina. Goryczka wyczuwalna, ale niska. Wysycenie średnie do wysokiego. Pełnia niska. Oczywiście brak nut alkoholowych.
