Boon Oude Geuze VAT 91

Boon Oude Geuze VAT 91

The highly subtle, elegant and gentle flavour of Traditional Oude Geuze, VAT 91, is due to foeder no. 91, which used to serve as a calvados cask in Nomandy. Now this foeder produces an excellent, gentle Lambic, which is just perfect for Traditional Oude Geuze. VAT 91 is soft, full bodied, complex and well balanced. The unique oval shape of foeder no. 91 provides optimal use of warehouse space.

4.1 the aroma is fruity and herbal with hints of sour orange, lemon, dry wine, sour milk and berries... the taste is wine and herbal with notes of sour citrus, white wine, sour milk, esters, sour berries and some grasses... the aftertaste is sour, tart and dry...

3.7 Bottle. Wine Rack, Sharrow, Sheffield. Mostly clear gold. Streams of fine bubbles. Dense, thick, lasting, bright white head. Nose has dusty oak. Crab apple. Some paper. Some vinous notes. Taste is dusty dry, with some tangy bitterness. Medium body. Pretty slick and oily. Touch of acidity. Dry and oaky finish.
3.8 Bottle bb 12/36. Amber with a loose white head. Aroma of brooding woody funk, toast, lemons. Mellow. And maybe I can actually taste apples. Only a little sour with both sweet and tart fruit, enduring funk. Lovely but lacks a little edge.

4.0 375ml bottle. Opalescent, orangey, pale golden colour with average, thick, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Tangy, slightly woody, oaky, minimally fruity aroma with a vinous touch, notes of white grapes, white balsamico. Taste is mildly tart, minimally dry woody, slightly vinous fruity, hints of white grapes, gooseberry and other pale berries, subtle sweetness with a touch of grape sugar, cautious spiciness; oily texture, smooth and soft palate, minimally too prickly carbonation lends a sherbet touch. Not overly complex, but superbly crafted. Very nice.
4.0 Białe owoce, sporo winogrona. Wiejskie akcenty, ale bez intensywnego zapachu obory. W smaku winnie, wytrawnie.
4.0 0.375 l bottle from 'Belgiuminabox.com', bottled in December 2016, cellared for almost two years. A little hazy, amber with a thin, slightly fluffy, slowly diminishing, white head. Minimally sweetish, sourish, fairly fruity, gently funky and a bit woody aroma of ripe lemon, rhubarb, gooseberry, oak and horse blanket. A bit sweet, moderately sour, quite fruity, gently funky and a bit woody taste of ripe lemon, rhubarb, gooseberry, leather, oak and horse blanket, followed by a medium long, gently tart, woody-dry and quite funky finish. Medium body, smooth, slightly astringent and quite effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Quite mellow, refreshing but still very complex. Very good!

3.4 Barwa złota, piwo przymglone, piana biała skąpa. Aromat niezbyt intensywny, cytrynowa kwaśność, słodkie słodowe tło, nuty drewna. Dzikość stonowana, lekko wioskowa, trochę siana. W smaku wytrawne, dużo drewna i tanin, kwaśnośc średnio-wysoka, cytrynowa, minimalnie octowa. Finisz cierpki, lekko piwniczny. Całość lekko bez wyrazu.
