Boon Oude Geuze VAT 92

Boon Oude Geuze VAT 92

Oakwood, complex and perfectly balanced, with smoky and spicy touches. This traditional Oude Geuze is the favorite of our team of tasters. Its is pleasantly full bodied, complex and has a few smoky and spicy touches. These unique flavours are due to the oak cask, which used to be used by red wine makers in France's Rhône Valley. The oak leaves a clear mark on the general taste, adding an extremely welcome touch to the Lambic's aroma.

3.9 Slightly orange gold, with a short lived white head. An aroma of ripe and sour apples, farmyard. Taste apples, hint of apricots, funk, some vinous notes, and sour but not too astringent.
3.9 Good lambic. Fruit esters in the aroma and flavor with a mild funkiness. Great color and head. Smooth and slightly dry.
3.8 37,5cl Bottle @ Belgiuminabox.com, Antwerpen, Belgium. Hazy golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma is brett, fruits, herbs, oak. Taste is brett, citrus, peach, herbs, oak, wine, tart. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.8 Poured from a 375 ml bottle. Aroma is chery pie, pineapple and lemon forward with light malt notes. Hints of stone fruit, light oak and faint alcohol. Light musty, earthy funk. Pours a hazy, copper-orange with a medium large, thick, white head that recedes steadily to a small film that lingers. No lacing and small legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with light sweetness and faint malt notes. Low bitterness and a hint of alcohol. Medium light lemon, cherry pie and pineapple. Faint stone fruit, grape and earthy musty notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent lambic but I think I like Vat 91 more. This has too subtle funky notes of must, herb and oak; I prefer the mustiness to be more forward. All these Vats bottles are a bit sweet.
4.0 Arom lambikowy owocowy lekkie fenole Wytrawne trochę gorzkie
3.7 Last of the variety pack - a pretty engaging experience. Big pop from the cork. A lovely clear golden amber with a lasting white head. 4+ Aroma is floral with citrus blossoms, old lemons, lots of oak, scrubbed laundry walls. Moderately sour and very dry. High carbonation. Does it lack a bit of depth or is the oak a bit overbearing? Still, pretty good stuff.
3.9 Bottle as part of Boon box as birthsday gift. Orange color with medium white head. Aroma of wood, sourness, vinous notes, funk, light smoke. Taste, nice sourness, wood, touch of smoke and spice, funk, barnyard. Enjoyable beer.
3.9 Crystal clear, spritzy, great lambic. Hits all the spots with just some mild influence from the barrel that sets it apart. 818 bottle
3.7 Bottle. Color: Slightly hazy orangish golden, frothy white head. Aroma: Hay, funky, gooseberries. Taste: Dry, mild, grass, hay, moderate sweet and sour and light bitterness. Very subtle, slightly tart red wine notes and grape tannins. Wood. Subtle herbal notes and light smoky hints mostly at the finish. Very smooth mouthfeel. Light wild yeast funk notes. Could have had a little more acidity. Nice one but not the best of the VAT series that I've tasted so far.
3.6 Bottle sample at a tasting at zvikar's place. Thanks Stas & Max. Cloudy orange. Barnyard, oak, sweat, citrus, dry, sourish, bitterish finish, lively carbonation. Very nice.

3.4 Bottle. Wine Rack, Sharrow, Sheffield. Mostly clear, orange gold. Halo and skim of white head. Nose has old oak. Cooking apple skin. New leather. Some white grape. Taste is dry, and fairly tart. Some woody bitterness. Medium body. Pretty oily. Bright carbonation. Moderate acidity. Tart and dry finish. Ever so slightly hard work.
4.3 Pours misty orange yellow with white foam. Round and not so tart and with a good taste and smell.
3.9 Flaska Systembolaget. Disig gulorange vätska. Doft av stall, citron vinäger och blommor. Syrlig och vinös smak med fatiga toner. Citron, jordkällare och harsyra. Möjligtvis något strävare än 91:an. Och inte lika spritsig
3.8 375ml bottle. Minimally milky, dark orangey, golden colour with small to average, frothym diminishing, minimally lacing, off-white head. Vinous fruity, oaky, slightly funky aroma, notes of white grapes, hints of grape sugar, some gooseberry, a touch of nutmeg, mustard, yoghurt, sour milk. Taste is sweet-ish and tart-ish fruity, minimally vinous, slightly oaky, minimally dry, notes of white grapes, hints of grape sugar, a touch of nutmeg and cinnamon, yoghurt, white pepper.
4.0 Bottle from Julio's Pours a deep golden color with moderate clarity and a decent sized bubbly white head with moderate retention. The nose is big lemony tart with lots of earthy funk and light fruitiness. The flavor is more earthy funk but holds a hint of fruity tartness. Refreshing on this 90 degree day and certainly cleanses the palette of fruity IPA's. Nice beer.
3.7 Pors pale yellow, no foam remaining. Aroma is oaky, sour. Same for taste, wood tones, oak. (Wageningen 201906)
4.0 Wrecking Bar's Wild Wild Beer Fest 2019. Pours a hazy pale yellow from the bottle with fluffy white peaks of rocky foam that dissipate to leave moderate lace on the way down. Aroma of soft funk, full bodied musty oak, and a clean light acidity on the finish. Taste follows, soft and round, full-bodied, complex but greatly balanced. Very nice.
3.8 Barwa złota, piwo klarowne. Aromat średnio intensywny, słodkie brzoskwinie, ciasto brzoskwiniowe, nuty cytrynowe, i rustykalna, drewniana dzikość. W smaku średnia kwaśność, słodycz ciasta z brzoskwiniami, sporo tanin i drewna, finisz lekko przyprawowy, ściągający. Goryczka zauważalna, średniej wysokosci taninowa.
4.0 Bottle. Aroma- nice composition of lemon, some peach, with subtle wooden and funky notes. Pale, sunny, almost clear, with a medium, but short-lasting head. Taste- dry, with a bit more funky notes (like hay and some stable notes, pleasant), still some peach. Low, barely noticeable sourness in the aftertaste. Also subtle bitterness, probably from oak ageing. Low-bodied, with a medium carbonation. It's not very distinct, but the balance and complexity of this Lambic make a great impression to me.
4.1 Corked bottle, Sergey's hunt Hazy golden colour. Compared to the VAT 91, it has a bit more lemony aroma and a touch of vanilla. Drier mouthfeel, with moderate acidity, nice cedar peel and lemon peel. Excellent.
3.8 0.375 l bottle from 'Belgiuminabox.com', bottled in December 2016, cellared for about one-and-a-half years. Clear, orangeish amber with a thin, slightly fluffy, slowly diminishing, white head. A little sweetish, sourish, gently funky and quite fruity aroma of lemon, rhubarb, some wood and light horse blanket. Gently sour, quite fruity and moderately funky taste of lemon, rhubarb, quite some wood, some horse blanket and hints of leather, followed by a medium long, gently tart, fairly woody-dry, slightly funky and a little vinous finish. Medium body, slightly astringent, spritzy and quite effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Mellow, almost a little simple Gueuze, but it's also an extremely well-balanced, refreshing and fairly quaffable one, just typically Boon.
3.8 375ml bottle from Le Silpo (thx, Vlad!) at Alex's shared with Ash, Jamey, and Kas. Appearance: hazy golden with a white head. Aroma: funky, fruity, a bit of sulphur Taste: along the same lines, similar to VAT 91, but maybe a more bitter and sour, slightly aggressive Overall: nice
