Boulder Beer Hoopla Pale Ale

Boulder Beer Hoopla Pale Ale

Magic happened this year in Boulder, CO, when local music and local beer came together. In search of the perfectly drinkable, yet flavorful, festival beer, the Boulder Beer brewers and avid homebrewer Kyle Hollingsworth, Keyboardist of the String Cheese Incident, joined creative forces. Imagination and improvisation flowed freely, and Hoopla was born.

Hoopla Pale Ale is dry-hopped with generous amounts of Glacier hops for a fruity, floral hop aroma and flavor that will have your taste buds dancing! Its lively hop character is wonderfully balanced with a crisp, clean finish from the unique blend of US and German grains, making Hoopla the perfect companion to festival season.

“We wanted to make a beer that was hoppy, but still appetizing to non-hop-drinkers and drinkable on hot days at summertime festivals,” Kyle explains about the recipe.

3.3 Pours golden amber with small white head. Excellent aroma of citrus, pine, hops, and flowers. Flavor of bitter hops with hint of citrus. Good beer overall.
3.2 With a little Restless Wind playing in the background...Pours golden amber with a white head. Aroma is citrus, grass and a touch of floral. Taste is sweet with mild bitters. Medium bodied with a crisp finish. I would enjoy this at a festival or two and it would make an excellent summer beer.
3.2 12oz can from Manahawkin Spirits. Pours a crystal clear orange color with 2 fingers of foamy off white head. Aroma of citrus, grain, light caramel, and sweet tea. Taste of sweet grains, citrus zest, hints of caramel, and a mild earthy/piny hop bitterness.
1.7 Draft. A- Floral, pines, spices, citrus. A- Copper color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Very bitter, mild sweetness, hoppy. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- They said they wanted to make this appetizing to non-hop drinkers but they didn’t manage to succeed. Overly hoppy.
3.4 Nitro at craft ale house. Pours clear copper with a large white head that looks more like a milkshake. The aroma is very floral with light citrus. The taste has a nice light bitter pop but has a good hoppy taste.

3.5 355ml can from Beer Culture, New York. Great little pale ale that has all the right things, great aroma and flavour and looks good in the glass.
3.1 Draft sampled at The Buffalo, Idaho Springs. Pours clear amber with an off white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, some licorice. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.0 Tap at The Buffalo, Idaho Springs, CO. Poured a clear medium amber with a frothy white head and loads of lace. The aroma is weak malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a rather strange and unusual liqourice bitter hop palate with a long lasting bitter finish. An easy drinking pale ale.
2.7 Poured a dark straw color with a small white head. Not a lot of nose to this one. A little bit of caramel with a hint of earthy hops. Hops come out a bit more in the taste with a very piney presence. A little bit of caramel as well. Mouthfeel is too light. Good carbonation. Mediocre offering from a brewery that is never really bad, but not good either.
3.5 Pour from a 12oz can. Clear, medium gold brew with white head. Aroma of citrus and tart fruit, tropical fruit. Taste is dry, little malt at the start, hops forward with bittering appearing early, a little earth, tart fruit, and hints of resin in the middle positioning to a more fruity / citrus finish. A solid APA.
3.7 On tap at UJs. Pale gold with thick white head. Earth, melon, citrus, floral, candy. Moderately bitter and sweet. Creamy body with a hint of carbonation. A little strange, but still drinkable.
3.6 Gold pour with fluffy off white head and lace. Aroma is sweet malt and resiny hops. Sweet malt start with a medium dry resiny finish. Medium body with good carbonation.
3.7 Amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of tropical fruits, toffee malts, citrus, grass. Taste of the same, tropical fruits, light citrus, and also some malt sweetness.
4.0 Pours amber with an orange hue and foamy off white head. Nice fruity floral hops hit the nose, sweet but not overboard. Flavor brings nice bitter hops that come smoothly on the tongue.
3.0 Draft at sheffields. Reddish orange. Tons of white foam. Dry bitterness but pretty boring. Nut and Carmel hints. Just ok
3.1 Typical pale ale, with a kick of hops at the end. Pours pale gold. Light citrus notes. A decent beer for a summer day but otherwise somewhat unexceptional.
2.9 A nondescript american pale ale. Muddy character- some piney hops, a little malt. Pretty much like dozens like it. Only paid 5 bucks for a sixer- there is that but on clearance so apparently not too popular. I can see why.
3.4 Bottle shared by shigadeyo (6/2011, notes). Pours a clear dark golden color with a large fluffy off white head. The aroma and flavor have some leafy hops, mild citrus, floral notes, pale malt. Flavor is lightly toasted and a touch dry. A serviceable pale ale.
3.5 6/07/2011: Boulder Hoopla Plae Ale (made with Glacier Hops)... Aroma: Lemon zest, grapefruit; vibrant hops that are well-controlled for the Pale Ale style. Appearance: Shiny clear, deep gold with bluffy beige bubbles on top and puffy lacing. Flavor: LIght caramel; floral hoppiness with citrusy flavors shining through. Palate: Medium-bodied; smooth, average; soft texture. Overall: This is a good, sessionable Pale Ale with a slight punch of hops. 1 ping 6 fl. oz. bottle (Enjoy by AUG 23 2011) from The Party Srouce in Bellevue, KY. Rating #149 for this beer.
3.3 Clear, medium amber with an off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of pine, sweet citrus, grain, hay and timothy. Taste of pine, grain, citrus, sweet light fruit, hay and grass with a tart grapefruit finish. Medium body and medium/high carbonation.
3.2 While not much to look at and smell, Hoopla has four rolling waves of taste, with light sweetness and bitterness pitching to and fro, and a firm body. Poured from one of the 53 taps at Stubby’s Gastrogrub & Beer Bar in Milwaukee.
3.5 For a pale ale, it’s pretty good. The aroma is definitely the worst part of this brew; it’s gets much better from there. The taste has a good malty underbelly with a refreshing hop note with a solid finish. I like it. Not the best thing ever but good backyard summer drinking...
3.1 12 Oz. FL. Can. Poured copper, clear with a nice thick off white head and lots of lacing. Aroma of floral hops and malts. Taste is sweet and fruity a bit too floral (kinda soapy) combined with a little bitterness from hops and stickiness towards the end. Not my favorite but not bad at all. OK in warm days.
3.4 12oz can poured into a Shaker at 41°. Color is a deep gold with good carbonation and a small tight head. Aroma has a fruitiness to it and a bit of hop spice. It has a medium body with a soft mouth feel. Flavor is a lot like the aroma with fruit up front showing some apple, then hops spice comes in with a bit of citrus and a mild bitterness. After taste is slightly dry with a clean feel. Overall its a good Pale Ale, nice brew for the summer.
3.4 Draft that poured an copper red color. Thick white head. Decent aroma of hops and malt. The flavor was surprisingly good. Nice hop flavor mostly citrus and some floral notes. Medium bodied with lots of lacing. For summer this is a decent pale ale.
