Boulder Beer Sundance Amber Ale

Boulder Beer Sundance Amber Ale

The color of a Colorado sunset, this complex, garnet colored ale blends the nutty flavor of roasted barley with three varieties of hops to impart a rich malt flavor and hoppy finish. Medium-to-full bodied with dry, almost smokey characteristics, Sundance Amber is a very sophisticated brew.

2.6 A reddish copper ale with a thin off white head. Again, a rather sweetish aroma, nut and cinnamon with some boiled veggies, no hops, a bit cloying overall. At Boulder Beer Tap House, DEN, August 28 2009.
3.7 The label reads "Necktar of the Vampires" and I am suspicious that this is simply relabeled sundance amber but whatever. This pours out a nice amber color with a perfect off-white head. Smell is malty as is the taste. Not much going on here but very drinkable and has a nice aftertaste of malt. I like the fact that they are supporting local arts. 3.0 Overall Impression: From an older rating, I have this beer down as being a solid and enjoyable Amber ale, but not overly exiting or memorable...
1.9 Medium hop aroma. Slightly darker than pale yellow, a little brownish orange in there. Mild dull hop taste and palate, very similar to bould pass time but with a little more bitterness. Better than nothing carbonation. Could possibly said to have a leather feel to it. Seems to be a much higher abv than the 4.8 listed here, I’d say more like 5.5% or more. Almost has enough personality to be called an IPA. Hoppily complex all right. Finish is not quite bitter medicine.
3.0 Bottle This poured a clear amber with a nose of caramel malts and citrus hops. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor was malts and hops and in good balance. A simple amber that was enjoyable to drink. Thanks for the trade JB.
2.9 Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a thin white head.Aroma is malty and grassy with caramel and some faint hops. Flavor was light caramel malts, roasted grain and a bit of toffee with a slightly bitter finish.
3.0 Sampler at the Boulder Beer Company, Boulder 10/10/2007 Some fruit aroma. Golden bronze coloured and malty with a crisp and slightly bitter finish.
3.0 Not much on the aroma front. Pours a nice clean amber. Flavor is pretty sweet, caramel and toast. Palate is just a slight lingering of hops but clean otherwise. Overall not bad.
3.1 pours a clear copper with a small beige head. aroma of sweet malts, caramel, bread, barely any hops. Drinks prerry smoothly with a watery finish.
3.0 White quickly dissipating head. Amber body. Sweet malty smell. Taste is pretty sweat caramel and malts. Barely any real hop taste. Slight metallic tinge. Medium bodied. Tiny bit of bitterness.
3.3 Very nice looking amber color with a nice head and lacing. A bit of a nutty aroma, malty. Palate is solid but unspectacular. Nice mouthfeel, texture, and taste.
3.0 Nothing about this beer really resonated with me in any way. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good. Just rather...there. I can’t really knock it for much. The beer smelled and tasted okay. Notes of mild hops and caramel malts in both the aroma and flavor. Easy to drink. Pretty forgettable in the long line of forgettable Amber Ales.
2.9 Bottle. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Sweet caramel and fruity esters. Light grape, and some peat. Bready with more malt to boot. eh.
2.7 Biscuity fruit nose. Pure amber color, smaller head. Cracker sugar, mild bitterness. Massive carbonation, lighter body, malt finish with a quick bitter snap. Decent Amber, but not much depth.
2.8 Crushed with Jakebra. These guys just seem to specialize in mild yet inoffensive brews. Mostly sweet, but an okay hop presence in the finish. Drinkable.
2.4 Pours a slightly dark amber with a 2 finger creamy white off white head. Aroma is toast, sweet grain, caramel, a hint of roast, citrus and a little pine. Flavor is weak sweet toasty malt, grain, bitter hops, and some metallic malt notes. Finish is slightly bitter and metallic. Body is thin and dry.
2.5 Sampled at the Second Cellar Reduction. Pours a clear amber with thin white head. Aroma is light dogfood, dark earthy malt. Malty backbone with some citrus and hops. Well balanced I suppose, but not that enjoyable. On the bad side of average.
2.7 Bottle with Butters at Second Cellar Reduction. Amber body with a pale tan head. Sweet malty flavor with a touch of bitterness.
2.7 Amber with a thin white head. Aroma is a light maltiness, a light caramel note, faint hops. Taste is light toffee, malt, a wheat light character, mettalic.
2.6 Bottle. Clear pure rusty color with small off-white head. Sweet caramel malt aroma is nutty with some hazelnut essence. Soft but high carbonation. Woodsy flavors, lots of tree barks. Sweet but a decent flavor with sticky finish.
2.3 Bright amber. Rotting fruit on the nose with some caramel. Light body. Light caramel taste, with some crackery notes. Tough to choke back a glass of this uninspired lameness, yo.
3.1 Draught at Boulder Beer. Clear dark amber - white head. Nice malty, grassy, caramel, light hoppy, roasted, grape fruits, dry finish.
3.4 This one was very surprising to me. Not much of an amber fan but the flavor here is top notch. They love there hops in Boulder and this one is lacking none for an amber. A little watery for my palate but a wonderful flavor and color.
3.2 Draught @ DIA - Pours reddish amber with a medium tan head...aroma is toasted grass, and slightly bitter...good amber flavour, has all of the roasted grain without the nuttiness that other (ahem) Colorado ambers have, finishes clean and with crisp bitters, flavour sticks around in the mouth for a bit...decent amber
2.6 Draught. Low and quickly disappearing offr-white heade. Clear dark brown body. Aroma pretty strange soapy. Mildy hopped caramel malt flavor with high carbonation and a long aftertaste.
3.2 bottle - Pours clear amber with a thin white head. It has a sweet caramel malt aroma. The flavor is pretty sweet as well but along with the caramel malt has some light, hoppy fruitiness. It’s light to medium bodied and has some bitterness in the finish. It’s a pretty good session brew.
3.3 Bonus from Irishboy, pours attractive copper red with foamy off white bubbles. The nose is nice and bready malt. The flavor is that plus a a dry hoppy profile and finish.
3.1 Draught at the brewpub. Clear amber coloured with a small white head. Sweet aroma of malts and caramel with notes of hops. Sweet flavour of malts, caramel, hops and grape fruits. Dry hoippy finish.
3.0 Bottle. Pours a crystal clear dark amber with a one finger cream head and decent lacing. Nose is sweet malt and light floral hops. Taste is caramel and toasted grains with a sour hoppy finish. Lighter mouth feel. An ok Amber.
3.9 Good amber on tap, very fresh and with a crisp flavor. More bitter than other mabers, very well complemented the malts
