The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter, light sweet with a smooth rich dry smoky charcoal roasty hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

3.7 On tap. Clear dark brown color with tan head. Aroma has some fruity hops and roasted malts. Taste starts slightly sweet and fruity but gets toasted with medium bitterness on the finish. Also some nutty malts and grapefruity hops. Body is on the light side with medium carbonation. Really easy drinking and tasty porter.

3.6 On tap @ Beer Temple, sample size. Very dark to black color. Stiff beige head with light lacing. Aroma’s: roasty, light coffee, plus light fruit retronasal Flavor is roasted, light sweet Light bodied. Long finish with roast and eventually moderate to full bitterness. Decent porter, rather authentic methinks.
3.3 Keg at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Pours almost opaque dark brown, brown head. Nose is dark roast, light chocolate. Taste is roasted malts, dryish, lots of malts, light bitter. Could use some sweetness for my taste.
2.8 Sampled draft @ Moderste 2016. Black, creamy mocha head. Nose is cold mocha, herbal leaves, thin mocha. Taste is very empty dull, very metallic, grainy, very empty chocolate, empty grainy. Body is dull empty, lightly metallic. Very bland, metallic hollow. Just start giving us Firestone Walker, Duvel.
2.8 On tap at the Boulevard brewery tasting room. Maybe would have been better if I had washed out the lingering taste of Love Child. Was expecting more sweetness. Like the Early Riser much better.
3.7 Originally rated on 9/11/08. "I like bottle conditioned beers, I cant remember if i ever had a B.C. porter though, it was kind of interesting. The secondary fermentation led to a massive tan head that would not go away. Intial aroma was very faint of apples, then the malty coffee took over. Mouthfeel is smooth but not too heavy, the heavy carbonation gave it a little bite. Flavor of coffee and carmel with a dry finish.
3.7 How : bottle Appearance : almost black with a medium to small brown head. Aroma : coffee, nuts, cocoa and wood. Palate : medium to full body, average to low carbonation.
3.8 Poured from bottle..nose is smokey malt a little hops some roastyness going on with a little coffee flavor..pour is black with a huge creamy head...mouth is same as nose...really solid brew...(#835)
3.2 12 oz. bottle. Poured black with a foamy tan head. Aroma was roasted, nutty and woody. Taste was slightly sweet and weak coffee.
4.0 Pours black with a great tan/khaki head. Notes of molasses, toffee and chocolate. A nice porter that is not overpowering. Easy to drink.
3.6 Pretty dark pour with a retaining mocha head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is surprisingly faint with a bit of roast coming through. The taste is a complexity of bitterness. The roasted malt and hops far out weigh anything sweet that may be implied. It’s a little difficult to drink with all of the bitter flavoring but overall a pretty solid beer!
3.7 12 oz bottle pours black with a tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and grains. Taste is bitter chocolate and coffee.
3.9 Pours black with a one finger white head with nice lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, sweet malts, toffee, and light hops. Taste is about the same as the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi creamy, slightly bitter, medium finish. Overall, a pretty tasty, drinkable Porter.
3.7 Rating from old records. Muled a bottle back to Oz in a poster tube. An American take on an English porter: big malt & hops, a bit smokey
3.5 Nice creamy light dark ale. I like the chocolaty body but finishes with a hop finish giving good balance and smoothness.
3.4 "Converting" from old excel scoresheet. So there is no comments on this beer.
4.0 Bottle. Aroma is of roasted malts and yeasty dough. Appearance is opaque black with large 3 finger-width beige foamy head and mild lacing. Taste is medium sweet and light smoky bitterness. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with surprisingly thin texture, average to lively carbonation and moderately long minimally bitter finish. Overall, a little bit thin and bitter for me for the style but enjoyable.
4.2 Looks like your typical porter. Smells like a nice mix of coffee and chocolate with some almost burnt malts. Taste is a light chocolate with a short bitter finish. Honestly just picked this up because ive heard boulevard does good things, and they were not wrong.
3.5 Bottle. Black beer with an beige head. Roasted fruity chocolate aroma with vanilla notes. Roasted a bit smokey, dark fruits leather and chocolate flavour with some tar notes.
4.0 Pours a mahogony color. Thick tan head at start, had some weird pitting in the head. It’s cute. The head thins out considerably. Pretty decent lacing going on as I drink it. Aroma is of chocolate and deep roasted coffee. There’s also dark roasted malt. Taste is bitter, but that’s okay. I certainly taste the coffee and chocolate, but the dark malt is prominent. But it’s not just dark, it’s almost burnt malt. But it’s yummy. It’s bitter, but again, tasty. Mouthfeel is deceiving. It’s bitter, but the mouthfeel is medium. It’s not very heavy at all. In coffee terms, it’s smooth but bold. It finishes pretty bitter. But that’s because of the style. Overall, I really like this. There’s not much else to say about it. It’s what I expect from a porter, and maybe a little more.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a dark black color . Very fluffy foamy head. Taste is a hard malty flavor with a very poignant coffee flavor. Very good
3.4 bottle. Near black with one finger head. Quite a bit of chocolate malt. Very light on the roasted nature. Bitter hops in the finish.
2.7 Bottle. Nothing amazing, have had far better examples of English-style porters. Fairly thin in taste and mouthfeel, with some liquorice and chocolate. No big flavours that jump out at you, quite watery.
