Boulevard / Cigar City Collaboration No. 5 Tropical Pale Ale
Combining CCB’s expertise with tropical fruit flavors and Boulevard’s love of pale ales, Collaboration No. 5 – Tropical Pale Ale begins with a base of soft pilsner malt layered with Maris Otter, Munich and caramel malts. Huge late hopping with a blend of Mosaic, Citra, Lemondrop and Azacca lends bright flavors of mango, pear, blueberry and citrus to a pale ale featuring slightly toasted biscuit and caramel/toffee notes. Infused with freshly sliced grapefruit at the conclusion of the boil, our tropical pale ale is briefly aged on passion fruit and grapefruit at the end of fermentation resulting in a refreshing acidity and tropical fruit flavor and aroma. At 7.3 ABV and 55 IBUs, Collaboration No. 5 – Tropical Pale Ale finishes slightly tart with bright citrus character from dry-hopping with Lemondrop, Azacca and Pacific Jade hops.

3.9Bottle from ABC. Serious tropical punch flavor. Lots of papaya. Rich tropical flavor, some grape, some apple, some lemon. Bitter aftertaste.
3.86 Mar 2016, bottle. gold, faintly hazy, some sediment. nose is tropical fruit (pear, pineapple) and grapefruit hops. med body and mildly fizzy. tangy citrus, mildly sweet, lightly bitter. nice.
4.0Slightly hazy marmalade in color, frothy white head, stubborn lace, a beautiful pour. Nice, juicy fruit smell, ripe peaches, nectarine, a note of honey. Very click across the tongue, more peach and now some mango. I like the slightly peppery bite towards the finish with some more acidic fruits. A great beer to share with the old lady.
4.2A slept on beer in my opinion. The hop profile is robust and juicy and quite good and the malt is subdued and quite clean despite being sweetish.
3.4Clearish gold with a big orange-tinged white head. Aroma citrusy, flowery, and fruity, with notes of mango and pineapple. Taste has a lot of tropical flavors in it - pineapple, pappaya, mango, and very sweet oranges. Very yummy
3.6Bottle. Hazy orange with a nice creamy head.Aroma of fruity hops with pine, mango and onion notes. Sweetish fruity, flavors of tropical fruits, a bit lemony and spicy, nice bitterness. Medium bodied, smooth with proper carbonation. Nice.
3.6Bottle. Thanks zvsn. Slightly hazy golden with small off-white head. Very fruity aroma with notes of onion and tropical fruits, a bit piney. Bitterish flavor with notes of onion and citrus, a bit piney, light malty sweetness, hint of soap, some lemony sourness, a bit dry. Medium-bodied. Nice.
1.3Volatile metal nose. Cloudy, amber. Deep thick resinous hoppy mouth coating happy bullshit. Quite heavy. Slick thick feel, one of the rudest IPA I’ve had fer a while. HAHAH, I just saw what style this is above and it says APA, fricken funny. This really bold imperial ass kicken strong ale, double IPA strong ale, YEAH.
3.9Very well done although almost pushing the limit of the category given the fruit involved. Big tropical hit of fruits on the melon and citrus side, not banana or coconut. Really comes through in the nose and almost juicy while also maintaining a soft body. Yummy.
3.5BBOTMC. Pours golden with a nice head, aroma of passion fruit, mint, malt, acidity, flavor is lemony, mint, herbs, moderate sweetness, crisp, medium bodied, nice.
3.7Bottle. Lots of passion fruit in the nose, plus grapefruit, biscuits. Again, huge passion fruit flavor, quite dominating, sweet and juicy. Smooth, silky body. Decent tasting and fun, though not hugely innovative.
3.7Boulevard Tropical Pale Ale 7.2% shared by KyotoLefty.
A beautiful copper-gold with an off-white filmy rad and a fantastic hop bouquet. Big tropical fruit aroma, passionfruit and grapefruit pith. The taste is sweet and fruity in the initial and then gets pithy and lightly tangy/bitter in the finish.
3.6Bottle. hazy amber, white head. Pleasing passion fruit aroma and some dry garlic peel. Also white grapefruit. hoppy bitterness, tropical fruit and sugar-sprinkled grapefruit in the mouth. medium body and grapefruit finish. Nice.
3.9トロピカルペールエール
華やかなトロピカルな香り、味はまろやか柔らかい
3.6Bottle. Better Beer Of The Month Club. Hazy deep golden-orange with a white head. Lovely aroma of fruity hops, tropical and citric, and some passion fruit and grapefruit notes. Flavor has mild sweetness, some malt, bitter fruity hops, light tartness, and zesty grapefruit. Medium-bodied. Very nice.
2.7on tap at The Beer Store Phila in Franklin Mills - cloudy orange color with an odd almost medicinal aroma. Not great. Does have a slight tropical fruit flavor.
3.6FWB Liquors bottle, best before 2/12/2016; just made it. Hazy gold color with medium sediment and a long lasting, meringue head. Aroma starts with pine hops and finishes with pineapple and rum. Lots of pineapple and orange in the flavor with a light bitter finish. Very enjoyable.
2.8Pours an amber from a bottle with nice persistent lacing. While not quite lemony, it is leaning toward a lemon/citrus bent. There’s also a hint of something else, mango perhaps, but not heavy. Slightly oily and rather dry. Okay beer.
3.6Draft at Pinthouse Pizza. Hazy orange/golden color with creamy white head. Fruity aroma. Citrus, pineapple, mango, berries, and pine flavors with some spiciness. Moderate bitterness. Nice.
3.6Aroma: fruity with faint hops; Appearance: golden straw/amber, hazy, think head with some lacing; Taste: piney but not too bitter; a little bite to it - nice, smooth, complex; Palate: medium finish, slightly dry and bitter; clean; Overall: very good; would buy again.
3.4Amber little rimming head ; aroma is mildly sweet some grain notes of coconut; flAva is grainy hoppy; feels light to medium zingy fizz; finishes dry bitter
3.7A heavy pale ale, with big tropical notes in the aroma and flavor. Has an unfiltered light to medium orange appearance. Flavors of mango, apricot, citrus, and a nice hop variety. Quite complex for a pale ale but that’s what you’d expect with a collaboration with Cigar City. Pricey beer, but worth the try...and the buzz!
4.6Tropical Pale Ale is aimed right my favorite beer deScription. This is a great example of a hoppy juice fruit flavor in the pale ale range. The pilsner malt base gets out of the way of the Mosic, Citra, Lemondrop and Azacca hops. Just a light touch of Maris Otter, Munich and carmel hops to provide some malt sweetness to the juicy hops. Another great beer from Boulevard Brewing. Might just passed the White IPA colab and 80-Arce hoppy wheat as my new Boulevard.
3.5Strong tropical hoppy aroma, grapefruit, guava, bready Malts
Pours a cloudy orange color with small wispy white head
Citrusy grapefruit flavor with guava, lemon, grass, light biscuity malt
Light bodied, high co2, lingering grapefruit bitterness.
I do like this but it's like drinking juice. Interesting flavors
3.412 oz. bottle, consumed on 1-23-16. “BEST BY 02/13/16.” Hazy rose or coral-tinted bronze with a moderate amount of beige head. Some cloudiness in the final pour. Bright, effervescent, good-looking beer. Touch of urine in the aroma. Fresh yet slightly funky smell. Melon and spices. I’m not all that familiar with passionfruit, but I assume that’s what I’m getting in the smell. Tart flavor; I definitely get the grapefruit. There’s a hearty element to this beer that reminds me of baked fruit. Citric, dry hoppiness as well in the taste. More an IPA than a fruit beer, but the fruit aspect is unmistakable and adds a twist. It is tropical, but it evokes a humid night at a swanky, beach-side bar more than it does a sunny day with an ocean breeze. Medium body. Somewhat frothy in the palate. An odd duck of a beer and a memorable one. It is nonetheless accessible, and it’s clearly well-made. It seems increasingly like a standard (but good) IPA upon multiple sips as I get used to it. I have mixed feelings about it. Overall I like it moderately to substantially more than I dislike it. Rarely does a beer that I give a 3.4 elicit such a strong reaction from me, but this is a rare beer. I’m definitely glad I tried it.
3.6Bottle. Pours a light orange with a thin head and aromas that start out with lots of juicy tropical fruit and a touch of lemon and pine. Flavor is a bit janky at first but it settles down as the beer airs out a bit. Initially, it seems a little unbalanced with harsh pine at the end of a kind of sloppy melon and papaya fruit presence. As it warms it blends together and becomes much more smooth on the palate.
3.7Pours a chill hazed golden orange from the bottle with fluffy off-white head that dissipates slowly to leave good lace. Aroma of sweet maltiness, a bit of oxidation, and a nice fruity back end. Taste is way nicer, I get the tropical notes here, minimal bready malt, hint of oxidation but less than the nose, nice. Mild bitterness, medium carbonation, solid pale ale, just a bit old.
3.910/17/15. Tap, Craft on Draft. Orange pour with a nice khaki head, good lacing. Nice aroma, lots of tropical fruits, I would have guessed more from the hops than actual fruits, some light crackery malts. Great flavor, nice hop character, dank, loads of tropical fruits, doughy malts. Tasty!
3.9Pours a brilliant golden color with an off white head. Aroma is tangerine, mango, and grapefruit. Flavor is a light malt base with citrus, mango , berries, and metallic notes. Grapefruit and lemon finish with a hint of tartness.
3.612oz bottle from Savor Growl: murky copper orange pour. melon, tropical aroma. tastes are sharp juicy tropical, oily, dank, caramel. somehow seems like all of: sweet, sour, bitter at once. interesting. moderate bitter.
