2.6 pretty weak for a stout. watery..small stiff head not much here light carmel light on everythinh but color
3.4 On tap. A great nitro tap and a foamy tan head. The aroma and taste feature plenty of toasted malt and the aftertaste has some slight chocolate and coffee flavors.
3.4 Was going in with high hopes on this one and the flavor just feel a little flat for me. Really great and viscus dark pour with a small tan head. Great lacing on my glass. Aroma is coffee and chocolate, the mouthfeel was smooth and creamy but the flavor was just missing. Was hoping for more; still very drinkable though.
2.8 Good beginners dry stout. Medium boldness. Easy drinking. Excellent aroma.
3.2 A dark black beer with a white head, not thick like a Murphy’s. The ’dry’ part brings the notes forward to the tongue and lets the roasted malts to some nice work in the mouth.
3.3 on tap at brewery. nice light dry stout with milky white small head. like a slightly thicker guinness. simple, but good.
2.0 Appearance: liquid obsidian – black in the middle and slightly smoky see-through along the edges. Khaki cappuccino head is large, voluminous, and fades slowly. Creamy along the edges. Nose: mild – almost nonexistent. Watery ashes. Faint generic burnt bitterness – brittle and thin. Burnt leaves and twigs. Palate: far too thin and watery for this style of stout which tends to be a bit thin, but definitely not watery. Taking watery into consideration – ash and chocolate. Thin bitter acrid finish – ash, charcoal. Final Thoughts: as a style Dry Stout can be brewed very well – Cigar City Hillsborough River comes to mind. Boulevard’s line of standard beers is quite good and I expected much more than what I got from their Dry Stout. A shame, but at least there are a lot of really good beers from Boulevard I can savor instead.
3.7 Draft on nitro at elliott bay pizza. Pours black with a dense, surging, creamy tan head. Big roasty coffee nose with baker’s chocolate under that. Creamy body, flattish, not too chalky for nitro. Nice dark chocolate mid palate with a chocolatey finish.
3.5 Bottle- Pours a virtual black color with a tan head that fades slowly to a fine film of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with a hint of coffee and chocolate. Taste of chocolate and coffee with a bit of dark fruit. There is a mild bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body, smooth and creamy. Well balanced. Goes down easy. Nothing fancy just and enjoyable stout. Good for a few.
2.1 Tap - small thick head, dark brown/black color, creamy smooth texture, roast malt flavor with mild coffee notes
3.4 Tasted from bottle into nucleated pint glass. Pours a black color with creamy tan head, some retention, some lace. Bready, roasty, fruity aromas. Multi-layered bittersweet tastes of malt, toast, caramelized brown sugar, roasted barley, coffee, chocolate, faint black currants and cranberries. Thick, smooth, full-bodied mouthfeel. Distinctive ale yeast esters with a dry finish due to unmalted grain. Delicious.
3.4 a nice stout. pours black in colour, nice tan head. nice roasted malt aroma, roasted taste, hint of chocolate, and coffee
3.1 Perhaps it was because it was a draught, but it took a while to turn from a chocolate milk color to an opaque black with a lingering thick brown head. The aroma is light but consists mostly of chocolate and roasted coffee notes. The flavor is lightly roasted coffee with some chocolate, but just a bit thin, as.was the palate. Pretty good, but pretty standard.
2.9 12oz bottle... pours a watery dark brown, a very light tan head only forms a ring, a bit disappointing... the nose is a very roasty nut brown ale, coffee backbone, some nice roast, decent... the taste is really dry and bitter with a sweet vanilla nut finish, lots of roast on this, a bit of alcohol on the finish... not really a dry stout, pretty average
3.4 Served on tap in the KC Airport at the Boulevard Pub. The appearance is a deep brown black with a medium cream head. The aromas are medium roast dry malts with some chocolate additions. A good roasted malts and grain in the flavor profile. Some oatmeal and a good but not too much dryness. The mouth is moderately creamy but this wasn’t on nitro so it lacks a bit for the style. Overall a solid brew.
2.7 It poured an almosty black color with a small head. The aroma was of roasted malts and coffee. The taste was somewhat bitter and slightly malty.
3.4 Bottle thanks to Andy. Almost forgot to rate this. Pours nearly black with a relatively large light tan head. Nose of mild roast, sweet malts. More chocolate and cola than coffee. Similar taste. Nothing special here, but a good lighter, easy-going stout.
3.4 Bottle; Pour is Dark Brown with a nice creamy head. The smoky feel was the surprising part of this brew on the nose - roasted coffee is present as well. Almost over the top nose for the style, honestly, because the flavor profile is muted in comparison, which you would expect. Light and watery on the finish - it is truly a beer that goes downhill from the get go.
2.8 Bottle. Damn, now that’s a distinct toffee/coffee flavor. Not too sure if it’s to my liking. Has the usual stout flavors...toffee/dark chocolate/etc. The thing about it is that they all stick out a little bit more than I usually expect...I guess I’d say it’s because it isn’t balanced very well. Dry, bitter finish. Not as good as I’d expect from Boulevard. Not bad by any means, though. 4.9% alcohol.
3.0 Has a bitter bite to it, definitely dry, its just compared to the other ales in the sampler pack, this doesn’t stand up, although it is a good example of a Dry Stout.
3.2 Bottle: Pours a dark brown with a small ring of tan head. Aroma isn’t overly dry or roasty, but balanced with a malty sweetness and light coffee. Riding the fence between styles, really. Much more roastiness in the taste along with some bittersweet notes and a dry, lingering finish of roast and coffee. Body is just about right for the style. Not bad, it doesn’t stand out.
3.4 Received in trade from Monkeyknife, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a dark brown/black with ruby highlights when held to light. Has a skimpy off white head that sticks for a bit. Aroma is faint cocoa and dried fruit. I’m missing the roasted grains that are typical in a dry stout. Taste has some chocolates, a bit of roast bitterness and some more dried fruit. Carbonation is ample, mouthfeel is creamy, body could be a little thicker for me. Overall a decent brew, I could see myself sessioning this if it were more available to me. Could use more roast flavor and aroma.
3.2 Draft at Waldo pizza. Perfect, classic look for a dry stout. Super faint aroma with only a hint of coffee. Pretty light flavor too. A little coffe but that’s about it other than bitterness. Okay.
3.4 bottle thanks to Creedon pours black with a medium brown head. Aroma is smoke and charcoal with hints of dark cherries. Flavor is roasty through and through, dark malts, light smoke, crisp finish with moderate carbonation. Solid stuff.
3.5 Good beginners dry stout. Medium boldness. Easy drinking. Excellent aroma.
3.5 12 oz. bottle from Friar Tuck. Pours a hazy dark brown, opaque but not thick-looking, with a small tan head that fades into just a ring on the inner edge of the glass. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, coffee, smoked wood, nuts, and chocolate. Flavor of coffee, roasted malts, toasted nuts, smoke, plums, and nickel. Light-medium bodied, without a ton of carbonation but some sharpness, and a dry mouthfeel. Finish is roasty and quick. Good dry stout.
3.4 Bottle. Pours nearly black with a medium tan head. Aroma and flavor of rich, roasted malt, bitter and milk chocolate, a bit of spice. Finishes dry and bitter. Creamy and slightly thin palate. A tasty, sessionable dry stout.
3.2 Thin body but it was on nitro so that shot it. Nice roasty flavors but this one is a bit thin, Much thinner than other light stouts on nitro like Donnybrook which is in the mid 3%s. Thin and washy but when the flavors are there they are roasty, not purely dark, and a bit nutty. Decent beer.
4.1 Not very dry at all. Tastes like a middle-of-the-road stout with a nice, slightly sweet, roasted flavor.
3.5 Dark brown with a fizzy head. Soft chocolate aroma. Tastes of roasted grain and bitter coffee with a bright palate and some citrus notes.
