Boulevard Lunar Ale is a cloudy, russet brown beer, with subtle aromatic notes provided by our special proprietary yeast strain. Lunar Ale’s distinctive rounded, mellow flavor is crowned by a crisp, dry finish. The old world art of bottle conditioning creates a secondary fermentation, resulting in a beer that tastes fresher, better, longer.

2.2Poured a cloudy light brown, mild aroma, light head. Tastes watery and not impressive.
3.5Bottle served in a dimpled mug. Pours amber-brown with a slight haze and minimal head. The thin fizzy top grips the glass in tight bubbles, but leaves no lacing. Sweet belgian nose, with fruity esters, toffee, and coconut. Moderately sweet flavor. Light-medium body, fizzy carbonation, surprisingly slicky texture, and a soft, sweet, coconutty dry finish. I don’t think I would call this a dunkel. It’s more of a light belgian brown, and a very nice one at that.
2.6I find this ale smooth on the tongue. Aroma is malty and roasty. Pours a nice golden brown with a light brown head.
1.7nbottled sample from the sample pack. dunkel is not my favourite style of beer. hence the low rating
2.8Mildly ok. Flavors are there, but comes off a bit watered down overall. I like my Dunkel’s THICK boyeeee!
3.1Bottle- Lunar pours a hazy dark amber color with a light head that fades quickly. It has a pleasant grain smell, but nothing distinct. The taste was initially a bit sweet with a mild citrus finish. The feel was light and no lingering taste. It goes down smooth & easy. This was a pleasant brew for relaxing but that’s about it.
3.0Slightly cloudy amber brown with a small sized white foamy head. The aroma is wheaty, yeasty and sweet. There is a sort of lactic/tart quality here as well. Comes off as a little yeasty and wheaty with some spicy hops. Thin and muddy, kind of bland.Finish is crisp with a tart aftertaste.
2.5This was not what I was expecting at all. It wasn’t bad but it felt like it was heading in the direction of a dunkel version of an American wheat ale. Unremarkable but I think I may need to try again. Serving: Bottle
2.6Hazy light brown. Dusty banana bread aroma with some light cloves and phenols. Thinnish, bready body, lots of carbonation, fairly dry finish.
3.9Bready aroma with some minor nutty notes. Chestnut brown pour, nearly clear. Head rapidly dissipates, but is white and frothy. Starts bready and full of a mild sweet malt moving into a nutty finish. A medium body overall with an interesting finish. Unique from your common ale.
3.3Hey, it’s alright. A nice bit of yeast, smooth, satisfying. You might try a couple of these at a time.
2.8Clear reddish pour. Fratto provided. Sweet hops and fruit on the nose. Flavor is weak grains and light metallic flavors. Quite the letdown.
2.8Pours a clear medium brown with moderate head. Trying to give this a good review, as I do enjoy several Boulevard offerings. I just do not care for this very much. Has something in the taste that does not agree with me. It is fresh (Best by Sept. date) and I purchased within hour of brewery. Just not my style/flavor and not like any dunkel I’ve had.
3.9This was part of a mixed sixer I got at Brewtopia in Omaha.
It’s a hazy orangey-brown topped with a creamy ivory colored head. There’s a wheaty aroma, clove and banana aromas are present as well. Fruity.
Flavor has prominent banana and sweet spice. Clove is quite evident. It’s a lightly dry mouth, clean finish. As you make you way through the bottle, the aftertaste gets sweeter and stickier.
Wow, what a surprise. I certainly wasn’t expecting this beer to be a dunkel weisse and I certainly didn’t expect it to be so tasty. Well done.
3.0Just a dunkel, not much else to say about an unexciting and unappealing brew...
2.7Bottle from the Eastchase Majestic. Deep red pour with a big head that fades quickly. Aroma is citrus, yeast, malts, and some clove. Taste is grainy, a little fruit hops, banana, and light spices.
2.612 oz. Was just out looking for a beer and picked this out. Pours dark amber, not much head. Aroma is nice and spicy, lots of cinnamon and clove. Taste is a bit bland. Mostly citrus and spice, lacks much in sweetness or hops. Body is thin and fizzy. Was expecting more from this, but it’s not a bad one to just sit and throwback with some friends.
3.4Hazy reddish brown - impressive, soapy lace - fairly sweet in the nose - notes of clove, nutmeg, roasted nuts, light tanginess, cherry and overripe apple - flavors of toasted wheat, soft herbal notes, clove, mild nuttiness, moderate wheaty tang - a touch of metallic character in the finish is a bit of a distraction - otherwise a fairly good dark wheat.
3.312 oz. bottle from Shop ’N Save in Maplewood, and part of a sampler pack. Pours a slightly cloudy brown-amber color with a two-finger thick off-white head that dissipates after a couple minutes. Aroma of banana, caramel malts, clove, wheat, and toast. Flavor of banana, caramel malts, wheat, yeast, clove, tea, and toast. Light-bodied, a bit watery, and low carbonation- the thin mouthfeel probably detracts from the flavor a bit. Still, it’s another decent, sessionable, easy-to-find beer from Boulevard.
2.8No idea what to expect from this one - first grab from a variety 12 pack. Pours a beautiful cloudy reddish amber with a good sized head that settles down but lingers on. Not much aromoa, flavor is light, which is OK by me since I’m no fan of dunkelweisse. At the end of the bottle it seems kind of ho-hum and uninteresting, but its obviously very well crafted. Might appeal to those who like the style - I added two points to the overall just to counter my dislike for the style in general.
2.812 ounce bottle from the Libation Station in Johnson City, TN. Pours a hazy orange color with a very thin head that fades quickly. Aroma of bread, caramel and faint nuts and hops. The taste is a bit of bread and spice with some very faint malty and fruity notes. Medium bodied. Pretty boring.
3.6Bottle.
A - Deep brown color. Average off-white head with good retention.
S - Really bready, wheat smell. Some banana and clove also, not unlike a Hefe, but definitely not just like one either.
T - Follows the smell, with lots of grainy/wheat and bready flavors. Banana is also in the forefront. Some darker caramel flavors too. Kind of like a darker Hefe. Unfortunately the flavors are a little watered down. I didn’t necessarily think that the flavors would remain for long but they disappear really fast.
M - Medium to light bodied and average carbonation. Some creaminess but fairly watery.
D - Quite drinkable, part of that may be from how watery this is, drinkability is pretty good.
Notes: This wasn’t a bad beer and I liked the flavors but it was too watery for me to really enjoy. Seems to be like a lot of Boulevards regular series in that it does most things pretty well but misses in one or two areas.
2.4Pours a dark, cloudy coppery orange/light brown color that is pretty much completely opaque with a one finger frothy off white head that slowly fades into a thin lasting ring. Not much in the way of lacing.
Slightly tart, spicy aroma with some peppery zest and clove. There’s also a decent amount of caramel and chocolate malt in the nose as well as some subtle citrus and banana fruit character.
Lots of light carbonation up front followed by a very spicy medium body that lingers into a long dry finish. This beer is almost all clove and and hops and to it’s demise is completely dominated by these flavor. There’s also some peppery notes along with some caramel/chocolate malt and light fruit buried underneath. It’s very dry and almost offensively one dimensional. I really love Boulevard but this beer is a mess.
3.3Boulevard Lunar Ale -- 3/4/2008 from 12 oz. bottle . . .
Aroma: Lightly sweet; Malt, banana and cloves; Some caramel and yeastiness.
Appearance: Cloudy; Medium iced-tea brown color; Medium sized, off-white head with acceptable retention; Little lacing.
Taste: Medium sweet; Malt, yeast, clove and light hops; Some banana.
Palate: Somewhat thin; Light carbonation; Feels somewhat watery; Nice finish of malt and hops.
Overall: Though a bit thin and flat, especially for the style, this beer has a very good taste and was enjoyable to us. Nice change of pace beer. We’d buy it again.
2.8Poured from bottle. Not much notable about either head or color; very little aroma. Flavor was mild, a little toasty with a touch of phenol, but very little complexity or body to it. There are better brown ales out there.
2.5Bottle via trade thanks to stephens101 on BA. Pours cloudy mud brown with a one-finger off-white head. Aroma is pretty nice and typical with banana, clove, and malty sweetness. Flavor starts off decent, with caramel malt, banana, and clove. Nothing special, but all right. Then a weird off-flavor hits on the finish: something fairly acrid and mildly vegetal, possibly DMS. This lingers on the aftertaste. Palate is somewhat thin and watery for the style. Overall, a somewhat boring and slightly flawed example of the style. Would be good for someone like Indian Wells, but is a disappointment coming from Boulevard.
2.9Ehhh, probably Boulevard’s poorest style imitation. This Dunkel is just middle of road, but includes a very tell-tale clove and wheat nose with a cherry amber color and then, disappearing, and non-lacing white head. The flavor is immediately German wheat brew with staple clove, banana, and light malt shining through a rather light and somewhat watery body. Drinkable indeed, just nothing to write home about.
3.2Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. The beer poured an iced tea color and was slightly cloudy. There was a tan head about two fingers thick, which dissipated rather quickly.
The beer smelled caramel. The taste was malts, with some bread also.
Overall, this was not a bad beer. I have had better from Boulevard, but I am not disappointed in this one. I would drink it again, but it would not be my first choice.
1.1An amber beer with little head. The aroma is Band Aid, & slight banana in an artificial way. The taste is a bad metal taste that would not go away. The worst Boulevard I’ve tasted.
2.9A: Pours a nice copper hue with a nice tall white head with tinges of tan. Okay retention but no lace noted.
S: Banana and clove dominate.
T: Banana with notes of lemon zest. Nice blast of clove.
M: Fairly thin, and not very carbonated for the style.
