Neighbors for nearly twenty years, Boulevard Brewing Company and The Roasterie share a passion for making extraordinary beverages. In Coffee Ale, our two celebrated brewing traditions come together in a long-awaited collaboration. Ethiopian Sidamo from Africa’s Great Rift Valley has been carefully blended with rye, oats, and malted barley, and spiced with Perle and Styrian Golding hops. The delightfully fragrant beer presents a glowing, tawny-amber hue. The clean, crisp acidity of the air-roasted coffee mingles with malt on the palate, lingering faintly in a subtly sweet finish.

3.6How: Bottle.
Where: Systembolaget.
Appearance: Hazy amber colour with a large beige head.

3.6Bottle... Clear burnt-orange pour with a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. Decent retention. The aroma is a blend of medium-roast coffee, toffee and vanilla. Medium-bodied with airy carbonation. The Flavor is mainly of coffee and is lightly acrid. Balanced nicely, it’s bittersweet. Finishes acrid, mildly sweet and slightly tongue-numbing (like Novocain). Bottle courtesy of newcigarz!
4.3750ml bottle, caged & corked. Vintage 2013, batch 1, best by 10-2013. Pours medium brown color, tall light tan head. Large carbonation. May be over bottle conditioned. Smells of cold coffee. Flavor of burnt grains, fine roasted coffee beans, a hint of chicory. For a Coffee Ale, this beer is of superb quality ingredients. Tastes like coffee. Tastes like a Brown Ale. Nice layers of flavor. Now I hope it won’t keep me up all night long. (4101)
4.2Lovely beer. There’s roasted coffee and malts in the aroma, as well as caramel. Flavor mirrors the aroma, in addition the sweetness and bitterness hold hands through it all. On the end is a warming alcohol burn. After dinner drink and coffee, all in one bottle.
3.6Bottle 750ml. corked @ [ Fastelavn Smagning - Carnival Tasting, Ulfborg ].
[ As Boulevard Smokestack Series - Coffee Ale ].
Clear medium brown amber color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, coffee, dusty coffee - coffee maker. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, coffee, dusty coffee. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20140301]
4.3Pours a clear brown, transparent in the glass appearing deep amber, crowned by a large tanned head. Aroma is fresh, bitter coffee, malts and caramel. The coffee aromas are really nice! Taste is roasted coffee beans and a bit more moderately roasted malts. It has a subtle sweetness that is balanced nicely by the bitter coffee and roasty notes. A slight alcoholic warmth in the aftertaste, but hides the high abv very well beyond that. Body is close to full and has a creamy mouthfeel and the co2 is just on the spot, witch is just a tad above average. Probably the best non-stout coffee ale I’ve had.
2.7Danish tasting session
Brown color, dark, with quick head. Smell of old coffee pot and spirit. Lean body, overly carbonated (possible refermentation in bottle?), dry caramel flavor with some chocolate and coffee; the closes thing to this is a coffee filled truffle; ordinary bitterness; the coffee overall provides a feeling of stale water and dust.
Far from exciting.
3.4Bottle @ Yespr. Pours quite hazy amber with a lasting small frothy beige head. Aroma is mild coffee, caramel, bread, herbs and toasted malt. Taste is moderate sweet and light+ bitter. Body is medium, texture is light syrupy, carbonation is is moderate+, Finishes sweet with caramel and mild coffee, The coffee is nicely downplayed but I’d prefer less carbonation and sweetness.
4.0pours a very nice cloudy deep brown color. aroma all of coffee. taste has a strong black coffee flavor as if poured right from the pot, with subtle sweet hoppy undertones. very bitter and strong, definitely an acquired taste but great beer. very recomended

4.0I love coffee stouts but this is my first straight coffee ale and I was very impressed. Boulevard is really starting to impress me with this Smokestack Series. Drank this at 8am while smoking a boston butt in the winter cold beside the fire pit. Best morning ever? I want this again if I can ever find it.

3.7Sample at Kurtkeller 005: Coffee-tastic 01 on 02/08/2014. Pours a slightly hazy reddish-brown color with a medium foamy tan head that recedes gradually to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted coffee, malt and hops. Medium to full body with flavors of charred malt, black coffee and earthy hops. The finish is roasty with a grainy malt and espresso aftertaste. Above average overall.
2.1A dissapointment, tastes like old, and cold coffee. Man, what were you guys thinking?
3.9750 ml bottle from Vinmonopolet, Vika. Dark brown with foggy floaties. Tall light off-white head that falls down after a little while. Delicious roasted coffee aroma. Rich malty caramel flavours. Refreshing carbonation to cut the sweet malts and the coffee. Well balanced beer with an interesting edge. It is a somewhat unusual coffee beer, but a great one. Love it.
3.8Bottle at Yespr’s - Thanks. Clear brown - white head. Fresh fruity coffee, herbal notes, brown malts, acid notes, roasted, light hoppy, nice.
3.5Far brew...not much of an aroma..despite claims. No distractions from bad brewing...obviously cuz big brewery. Malty maple not bad here...slight bitterness from hops or roasted coffee like sensation.
3.4Bottled. Reddish amber/brown coloured. Unclear. Dense light brown head. Aroma. Herbs, spice, fruits, light sweetness. Flavour. Sweetness, herbs, spice, some fruits. Medium bodied. Ends sweet and fruity.

A - Dark brown with orange/red highlights. 2 fingers of fizzy tan head vanishes, leaving no trace behind.
S - Powerful nose of roasted coffee grinds and brown bread, spicy rye, amaretto, spicy hops, grain husk, alcohol brings notions of hazelnuts.
T - Cold coffee melded with heavy dose of bakers chocolate, roasted grains, toasted rye bread, tobacco, spicy hops show up mid palate along with amaretto, and some nuttiness. There’s a tangyness toward the finish, alcohol sneaks in on the finish.
M - Light side of medium smooth carbonation, light to medium feel, thins out as it sets.
It’s nice to see coffee in something other than a stout. Plenty of coffee with a spicy chocolate/rye backdrop. The alcohol pushes in a little but is expected. I don’t see this aging very well.
