Boulevard Smokestack Series: Harvest Dance Wheat Wine

Boulevard Smokestack Series: Harvest Dance Wheat Wine

Our Harvest Dance Wheat Wine is a celebration of John Barleycorn’s cousin wheat, the great staple crop of Middle America. Wheat wines are a somewhat recent stylistic development, akin to barleywines in strength, but brewed with a large portion of wheat malt, which provides a soft mouthfeel to balance the big body of these warming brews. We add a generous helping of Hallertau and Citra hops, and age the beer on both French and American oak, resulting in a beer that opens up with a warming burst of tropical fruit flavors, adding subtle Sauvignon Blanc notes before rounding slowly to a dry, oaky finish. This is a perfect beer for sharing with friends and family as we gather together for the fall and winter holidays. Pairs well with aged cheeses or seasonal squash and pumpkin dishes.

3.3 Bottle. A- Bubblegum, subtle hops, citrus. A- Orange color, hazy liquid, white foamy head. T- Bubblegum, pepper, spices. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, soft finish. O- Definitely unlike any barleywine I’ve ever had, by far. Way more like a tripel for me. Granted this bottle was 2 months past the best by date but I felt like all that really impacted was the tone of the Citra and Hallertau hops. Not a bad beer but for the style and my preference it was as bit of a sad story.
4.3 Pours a clear golden orange with a huge white head...decent lacing...light sediment throughout. Aroma has soft stone and citrus fruits and honey...mild booziness. Flavor follows suit and has nice subtle oak, vanilla and underlying orange blossom and apricot...delicious. Mouthfeel is full and silky with a dry earthy/oaky finish that warms.
3.5 . The beer pours a slightly hazy golden-orange color with a medium off-white head that evaporates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, citrus and spice. Medium to full body with flavors of caramel malt, citrusy hops, spice and a touch of oak. The finish is fruity with a wheaty malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
3.6 Bottle to taster Wheat, grapes, wood, and yeast. Yellowish amber with a bright light white head. Wheat, yeast, lemon, a touch of booze.
3.4 Bottle - Sweet boozy, stone fruit and syrupy. Clearish gold with a decent white head. Sweet stone fruit and a sweet syrupy finish.
3.8 Somewhere between a saison and hefe and barley wine. Yum, light nodied and crushable. Lots of citrus, fruit, spice, and big sweetness. Awesome label too
3.6 Bottle at home. Has a cloudy light amber color with a compact, off-white head. Fruity aroma with tropical fruits, spices, citrus, pale malt and hay. The flavor mirrors the aroma, is sweet with additional tones of alcohol, honey and fruit in the background. Has a full body, slick mouth feel and a light bitterness. A rich and fruity BW.
3.7 Clear, medium golden body with a white, long-lived head that laces the glass well. Quite strong aroma that to my surprise is very Belgian. In addition there are fruits, spices and light hops. The flavour is strong, and has the same Belgian yeasty feel as the aroma. Also spices, sweet fruits, strawberries and peach, and banana in the back. Medium body, dry texture, moderate carbonation. Very enjoyable. [75 cl bottle shared with Svensenga smak & behag]
4.2 75cl bottle. Small white layer, hazy yellow color. Aroma is wheat, sugar, honey, butter, coriander, citrus, peach. Sweet taste, thorough, tough and smooth.
3.8 On tap at Reds Alehouse. Orange and clear appearance with a lacy white head. Aroma of bready malts, citrus and tropical fruits, oak, light vanilla and light toffee/caramel. Similar flavor. Medium to full body with a fluffy, creamy mouth feel and soft carbonation. Pretty tasty overall.
3.9 Saison meets champagne, nice beer for a cool summer eve. Would buy again but not soon. Lemon, fall spices, orange, heavy carbonation
3.6 Pours a bright golden copper colour with a thin off white head that dies instantly. The aroma is rich and zesty with light tart hop aromas, lemon zest, orange rind and slightly spicy hops. Toasted wheat malts, biscuity and caramel malts up front with light sweetness. Tart, a bit musty and dry on the finish with moderate bitterness. Light alcohol presence on the finish. Very complex.
3.7 Poured from a 750cc bottle. Huge yellow head leaving lots of lacing. Clear amber with lots of particulate. Nose is bread, banana, citrus, cloves, grass, and oak. Flavour is bread, caramel, tropical fruit, spices, barnyard, and notes of orange peel. Effervescent carbonation with medium body. Very nice wheat wine.
3.6 amber color with about 2 fingers of fluffy off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is heavy yeast and bread. Flavor is big bread, grain, and some wood and caramel notes. fizzy carbonation.
3.6 Bomber - pours a big fluffy head with a darker golden haziness and plenty of carbonation - almost effervescent. Aroma is similar to a hefeweizen full of tropical fruits. A mouthfeel is soft and bready. Obviously a big wheat flavor presence is dominant, however complementary to banana, papaya and breadfruit flavors. Upfront is bread then fruit then a spice then hop and then a long finish of crisp blonde ale.
3.7 Pours hazy (first glass) to heavily particulate-laden (last glass) pale gold with one finger of soapy white head diminishing gradually to a thick cap, patchy moderate lacing. (3/5) Nose is doughy wheat, mild banana and other fruit, oak, lightly boozy. (8/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitter, very mild tart. (7/10) Medium body, soft carbonation, slightly oily, dry and slightly boozy finish. (4/5) Not hot, but gently warming, particularly in the belly. Despite the moderately high IBU (42) I’m not getting a lot of identifiable hop character, and the bitterness is quite mild and well-integrated into the overall profile. Quite drinkable despite the beefy ABV. (15/20)
4.0 750 ml bottle from Boise Co-op. Pours out with a beautiful fluffy head, cloudy amber body with lots of particulates. Nice bready aroma, thick and heady. Taste comes out stronger, still bready, but with a lot of body behind it. Smoother than the average BW, ABV hides well in the background. Burn comes on very late, in the stomach.
3.6 Bottle. Poured an Amber color with a large, frothy white head. Aroma was sweet and a touch boozy. Yeast, bubblegum, oak, wheat and some earthy notes. Soft on the palate and sweet. Oak and various fruits. Drinkable for Abv.
3.7 Draft sampler pours amber with a tan head. Aroma of grain, dried fruit and some citrus. Taste is sweet, fruit and oak.
4.0 From Kansas City, Missouri to Eugene, Oregon. The beer was like nothing I have ever tasted before. It is so hard to describe, so I won’t even try.
4.2 Poured from bottle. Nice color & aroma. Great taste. Definitely going to buy this again
3.9 Bottle. Moderate cereal and light bread for the malt, light herbs and dried grass for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast, with hints of banana, clove, alcohol and some light dried fruits. Head is average size, fizzy/frothy white with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is clear medium amber. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet. Palate is medium to full, oily, with a lively carbonation. A tasty Barley Wine with a lot of German Hefeweizen nuances from the wheat.
3.7 750ml corked bottle pours a golden orange color with a huge off-white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits with some grains and hints of yeast. Taste is a light fruit and grainy malt sweetness with a light spicy hop bitterness finishing with a mild dry white wine finish. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation that tickles the tongue nicely. Overall, this is quite well done, both balanced and tasty. Recommended.
3.4 Draft at one mile house NYC . More of a wheat wine then a barley wine. Very nice delicate flavor with a booZy richness
3.5 March madness 2015. Aroma is weak but the beer is interesting with a good blend of fruity notes, oak, malt and hops. Well done twist. It is drier than I would expect a wheat wine to be, compared to say aventinus.
3.3 March Madness 2015 - I would not consider this a barley wine ale Although it has a few of the same charateristics, it is not malty and tastes very wheaty. It is a wine style, but that is as far as I would go. Nothing offensive about this beer, but since I am not a fan of wheat beers, nothing to write home about either.
3.6 Cloudy golden with a thick white head. Aroma is wheat with a bit of barnyard. Flavor is light, what with a relatively bright finish. Very effervescent with a crisp finish.
4.5 Nose is big oak/vanilla/coconut, pineapple, and pear. Flavor is same with oak and fruity hop flavors dominating. Very good and unique
3.6 Tap. Pours a hazy amber with a layer of thin fleeting head. Aroma and taste of wheat, caramel, some dark fruits, hint of booze.
3.8 Total Wine, Fairfax bottle: Pours alightly hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is a good amount of tropical fruit, slight spicy notes, a bit of wood, and a hint of booze. Taste and small is a bit like a Belgian Strong Ale. It be a little sweet. The wood is noticeable. The finish is dry and minerally. Aftertaste is sweet again. Pretty good.
