Deriving its name from Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale of madness and murder, our newest Smokestack Series release takes a predictably lighthearted approach to the subject of sourness. The subtle acidity of Tell-Tale Tart is answered by a soft, biscuity malt character, making this a sour ale that suggests, rather than announcing its tartness. Beginning with a bracing sharpness at first sip, the ale mellows on the palate to a smooth and faintly lingering finish.

3.1Bottle from Market Street Wine Shop, Uptown. Pours hazy amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of biscuit, sour lemon. Flavor is burnt caramel, light lemon rind, toast, copper. Hmmm...
3.712 oz bottle, thanks brenn79. Aroma is overripe grapes, lemon rind. Pours hazy orange with a collapsing beige head. Taste is lightly tart with flavors of berry jam, toast, grain, blood. Not too bad.
2.7Bottle pour. Appearance is hazy light brown (like iced tea) with attractive sparkle, finger-width white fizzy head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong caramel malts, fruit, slight tart. Taste is as advertised with initial strong tartness then mixing with sweet caramel and biscuit malts. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, soft-to-average carbonation and finish of sweet caramel and sour fruit mix. Overall, I like that it isn’t a sour bomb but wish there was more of a hop presence as the contrast from the sour to the sweet malts is a bit much.
3.612 oz bottle- Pours hazy orange with a small light tan head that reduces to a collar fairly quickly. Aroma is salty, faint cherry that becomes more prominent as it sits, medium malt. The taste is cherries, lightly tart like the label says, that interesting saltiness that was in the aroma isn’t in the taste as much, Simple easy drinking sour.
3.3Bottle from Discount. Pours a clear cherry amber color with a quickly dissipating head. Light malty nose with faint cherry. Lightly tart with a second runnings oud bruin kinda feel to it. Easy drinking. Not a lot going on but still OK.
3.4Draft at boothill. Aroma of mike tart, berries and malt. Fresh taste of sour berries, mild tart, caramelised malt. Bit watery, but nice.
2.512oz bottle to tulip. Pours clear copper, small white ring head. Aroma of apple, sour grape, pie crust, pear. Taste of same. Mouthfeel is med light. Very little carb.
2.921 Dec 2016, tap at Boulevard. gold, clear, no bubbles. nose is a sweet, caramel sour that makes me think this is a kettle sour. thin body and moderately fizzy. sickly sweet, coppery sour. meh.
3.2Kind of generic Sour if that is a thing. Not bad but always not a ton of flavor. Light biscuit body with a sour kick.
2.5Light copper with an incredibly great aroma. Too bad it doesn’t quick taste as good as it smells.
3.6Tap @ Taphuys, Tilburg. Clear red color, average sized off-white head that lasts for a short while. Aroma is malts, sweetish, slightly red fruit and a hint of leaves. It reminds me a little of a bock strangely enough. Flavor is just slightly tart, more fruity than tart and even slightly sweet with a hint of pale and biscuit malts in the distance. Quite nice actually.
3.2(bottle) clear, very bright orange colour with a medium tall beige head; aroma of sourness, biscuit; balanced flavour with a long, light sour finish
3.1Flämisch rot, angesüßt und nur leicht Sour. Ein samtiges Mundgefühl trägt zum etwas merkwürdigen Gesamteindruck bei. Bionade!?
3.0Nice looking in the glass and it did have a pleasant aroma. I think I might have been more inclined to appreciate this brew more if it had a bit more flavor overall...just seemed a bit weak.
3.6Pour out of bottle, slightly hazy golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of tart lemon, bread, biscuit, slight yeast into a bit of spice, slight white fruit. Taste was a mix of bread, biscuit, lemon, oak, slight earth, spice, touch of fruit, finishing slightly tart.
3.1On tap at Spare time. Pours reddish Amber. Kind of underwhelming. Not much tart or anything else.
3.3Zuur bier. Best aardig, maar ruikt een beetje muf. Dat is jammer, verder aardig.
3.312 oz bottle. BB 12/Feb/2017. (Boulevard Brewing Co) Kansas City, MO.
Hazy coppery golden color with a small off-white head.
Mild sourness, mild tartness, some red berries and some sweetish malt in the aroma.
The flavor is sourness, tartness, dryness, mild vinegar and biscuity malt.
3.2The softer side of sour. Malt vinegar finish has me wondering how it would be on fish and chips.
3.3[Bottle (12oz)] Pours a very bubbly dark orange with an average size diminishing frothy white head. Aroma of caramel malt and fruit and that’s it -- too simple and average. Simple flavour of lightly sour fruit -- I wish there was more going on but it tastes good. Average bodied. Just good.
3.4Draught @ BeerTemple, Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 250, Amsterdam, Netherlands 1012 RR.

Overall: ok.
3.5(Boulevard Smokestack Series: Tell-Tale Tart) Tap at Cafe Caspar, Arnhem, 250ml served into a teku, ABV 6.2%
Deep red to amber colour on the body, clear, with a big tan head on top, a bit thin, collapsing fast.
The aroma has red fruits, marmalade, dust, cherries.
The taste is mildly sour, with some caramel in there, red fruits, light cherries and vinous notes.
Medium thin body with sift carbonation, quite dry on the palate.
Good.
3.3Pours clear orange-amber with a 1-finger off-white head. Nutty malt aroma with a mild acidic sourness. Body is a bit lighter than medium and lightly oily. Long finish. Light acidic sour taste over a touch of sweet malt. Maybe an earthy note at the back.
3.6Pours a hazy golden brown on tap with thin ring of bubbly white head that to leave light lace. Aroma light fruit, hint of lactic acidity, and pale malt. Taste follows, mild on all fronts, but pleasant. Soft carbonation, sweet and tart, I think it?s better than the consensus here.
2.9Aroma is light malt with a hint of dark fruit.... plum cherry. Appearance is hazy brown with small white frothy head. Taste is surprisingly malty forward, sourness lingering but malt forward. Some hop bitterness lingering. Palate is medium +... pretty full for a sour. A little flat a boring. Overall a mediocre at best beer. Could benefit from a few years aging so the yeast could eat some of the dominating residual sugars as well as create some kind of complexity and sourness.
3.1Draft at Meneer Jansen, Leiden. Clear amber with a ring off white head. Aroma of dough, tart dark fruits, light citrus, toffee and bready notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and light to light moderate sour. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation. [16-07-2016]
3.7Tap at De Hopzak, pours amber with a white head. Light sour, red fruit, biscuit, light balsamic vinegar. Refreshing and well balanced.
3.112 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Reddish amber with medium body and light carbonation. Sour fruit taste with malt notes coming in at the finish.
3.1Bottle from D&Q - The Beer Station. It pours clear amber with a small, quickly dissipating off-white head. The aroma is toasty grain, cereal, tangy sweet berry, soft fruits and light spice. The taste is crisp, tart, tangy, quite a bit sweet tangy berry, jam, toasty grain, cereal, biscuit, touch of alcohol, light lactic vibe and pickled onion monster munch with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. Not really up to Boulevards standards. A pretty average easy - going sour.
