BrauKunstKeller Laguna IPA (6.1%)

BrauKunstKeller Laguna IPA (6.1%)

Editor’s note: IBU increased from 60 to 74 and ABV went from 6.6 to 6.2 (late 2013)

3.5 realy nice india pale ale. fruity or citrus flavor at the beginning at the end a nice bitter taste of hops.
3.4 Hazy amber beer. I tried to leave most of the sediment in the bottle. Aroma is dry, bitter citrus and hop. Flavour is much the same. Grapefruit is the dominant flavour but it’s not overbearing or bitter and tart. In fact, it’s quite a refreshing beer. Lingering hop flavour, fairly hearty in the mouth. It’d be nearly perfect for a hot day were it not for the strength.
3.6 Bottle at home. Clear orange golden with cream colored head. Grassy, hay, tangerines, lots of grapefruit skins, light citrus juice, resin. Just massive citrus skin and hay basically, with light caramel maltiness underneath. Under medium sweet and strong bitter. Medium bodied with oily feel. Nice but very bitter.
3.7 Pours muddy copper with huge chunks of yeast. Impossible to leave the sediment in the bottle with this one. Fruity, biscuity aroma. Loads of tropical fruit flavours, plenty of citrus, decent malt backbone, a little caramel, topped off by a heavy bitter finish. Looks ugly as sin, never seen as much yeast floating in a beer, but tastes great.
3.6 citrus, alcohol, orange, brown, hazy, frothy, tan foam, very bitter, medium sourness, thin feel, soft carbonation, long finish, bitter,
3.9 Hopfig, zitronig. Schön rotbraune Farbe, stabile nicht zu große Schaumkrone. Angenehm gehopfter typischer IPA Geschmack. Kurzer Nachgeschmack.
3.6 Bottle from Deeside Drinks Emporium. Hazy amber body with lots of yeast chunks floating below a thin off-white head. Faint lacing. Aroma of peach, caramel and orange. Flavour of grass, juicy hops and lime chutney. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Looks like pea soup but it smells and tastes like a quality IPA.
3.5 33cl. Bottle. Pours hazy orange with white head. Aroma pine, old hops, citrus, grapefruit, caramel. Taste malty sweets, strong bitter. Mouthfeel thin. Great brew.
3.4 Shared bottle at my sister’s. Pours hazy amber with off-white head. Aroma of caramel, malt, esters, lemon, tea, tropical fruits. Tastes bitter with some sweetness; bitter finish. Dry mouth feel.
2.9 Licht troebel goud. Geur is goed, bloemen.
3.6 Bottle shared at the Cafe Abseits tasting during the Bamberg Excursion. Cheers to Jan for this one. Pretty decent beer. Pours unclear orange-gold with a frothy white head. Good hop character, some pine, grapefruit. Medium sweetness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly resinous on the finish, some pale malt sugars, mellow bitterness. Nice IPA.
3.8 Even traditionalistic Germany is brewing more and more IPAs these days - at least the newer microbreweries - and does it according to their Reinheitsgebot, which does not mean a lot in this case. This one from the renowned BrauKunstKeller, with a name probably inspired by Lagunitas, has a very thickly and papery lacing, stable, thick, moussy, egg-white head and hazy orange blonde robe, turning muddy with deposit. Its dank aroma breathes American hops and malt: I get pine needles, persimmon, dried orange peel, fresh grapefruit, caramel, sundried tomato, biscuit, red raspberry, subtle hints of roasted onion, cigarette tobacco, juniper berry, mandarin, sweet white grapes. Rounded, fruity onset with not unpleasant umami-like side flavours, hints of pink grapefruit, persimmon and mango, salty accents, soft carbonation, smooth and supple body based on caramelly and lightly toasted malts; the salty and umami flavours support a wave of bitterness in the end, piney, citrusy, peppery, very aromatic but deeply bittering at the same, yet some of the caramelly malt sweetness creeps through and softens the throat a bit. Juicy, appetizing, aromatic IPA packed with dank, piney hop aromas - I’m wondering which hops have been used here (Simcoe is a suspect, perhaps Chinook as well?). Even in Germany, IPAs, the flagship of the American craft beer movement, are gradually establishing a position next to all their lager and Weissbier traditions. I’ll leave it up to the German beer lovers to decide whether this is a good thing or not, but in any case this is a very accomplished IPA to my taste, with a good balance between powerful American hops and toasted malt sweetness.
3.6 Butelka 0.33l (IPA Bar, Berlin). Piwo delikatnie zmetnione o bursztynowej barwie z biala, obfita piana, bardzo ladnie oblepiajaca szklo. Aromat calkiem intensywny, owocowy, dosc przyjemny. W smaku slodowe, owocowe z mala goryczka. Pijalne choc szalu nie ma.
3.9 Dunkelorange, extrem fruchtig blumige Nase. Wunderschön hopfig, fruchtig süss, süffig und lecker.
4.5 Aromat: bardzo intensywne i przyjemne owoce tropiklane i cytrusy. Wygląd: barwa złocista, piana obfita. Smak: delikatna słodycz, wyraźne cytrusy i owoce tropiklane, goryczka średnia - grefprutowa. Tekstura: idelane - średnio pełne, wysycenie umiarkowane. Ogólne wrażnie: pyszne piwo, wybitnie aromatyczne i świetnie zbalansowane między słodczą i goryczką.
3.4 0,33l fles amber met ene crème kraag. Ruikt wat muf oude mannen kruidig, hop wat op de achtergrond. Smaak redelijk bitter met wat perzik en pine. Niet helemaal vers maar nog wel houdbaar
3.3 0.33 bottle, bb 2.01.16. A lot of floccose, quite unpleasant sediments. Strong aroma of sweet, tropical fruits. Taste is moderately to heavy bitter, with rather subtle sweetness. Bitterness seems to be slightly alcoholic but overall quite good IPA.
3.8 Bottle. Orange with a floral flavour. Hoppy with a bitter edge. Left loads of lacing. An excellent IPA.
3.8 Sehr gute Optik, schönes Rotgold viel Schaum. Grapefruit und Zitronengras in der Nase. Im Geschmack Grapefruit und Limettenschale. Der Abgang ist frisch und hefig. Sehr schön
2.5 On tap @Buskers Pub (Rome). Pours amber, a bit unclear, with a medium white head. Aroma of caramel, fruits, grapefruit, messy. Flavour is medium sweet and malty with a medium bitter end. Medium body, medium carbonation. Boring.
3.2 Bottle. Quite hazy, orange colour, small head. Hoppy aroma, slightly citrusy, caramel and bread. Nice bitterness, easy drinking, a bit fruity and herbal. Nice beer, but rather average. It’s supposed to be West Cost IPA if I remember well from the label, so it’s definitely to malty
3.5 Draught (Bishops Arms, Västerås) - Hazy copper in colour. Pine, toffee, caramel and dried apricot in the aroma. Tangy and hoppy taste with notes of pine, sultanas, grapefruit and dried apricot.
4.4 very nice aroma of grapefruit, pine and underlying caramel notes. bitter, but well-balanced taste. great finish.
4.4 Many thanks for this beer to kevnic2008. Piekna i trwala piana. Kolor zlocisto herbaciany ze spora dawka metnosci. Aromatyczne zapach egzotyczny, ananas, arbuz i papaja. W smaku rozwijaja sie inne owocowe wrazenia. Goryczkowa i wyraznie zaznaczona koncowka. Nuty perfum takze wyczuwalne. Stylistyczna etykieta i wytrawna konkretna koncowka. Polecam
3.9 Bottle, pours hazy orange with a white head. Aroma: tropical fruit, hints of sweat, cookies. Taste: lots of topical fruit, grapefruit, orange zest, bit of resin, kiwi(?), caramel. Medium sweet and bitter, oily to creamy texture, medium+ body, average carbonation, lovely lasting tropical and grapefruit bitter finish. Winner!
