Breckenridge Lucky U IPA

Breckenridge Lucky U IPA

We like to think this is an ale for everyone who believes you make your own luck. We sure did. And the result is a well-balanced, soulful IPA with just the right amount of hoppiness. An even keeled ale that goes down clean and refreshing, but still lets you know it’s been doted on by the Brewmaster. It’s true to it’s IPA heritage, but also highly drinkable. Lucky U. And we seriously mean that.

3.6 12oz pour from refrigerated bottle into Spiegelau IPA glass. Clear orange, lots of carbonation, great lacing, decent head. Nose is citrusy, malty, and a little sweet. Body is medium and creamy. Taste is alright-- similar to nose, with decent bitterness and some sweet fruity notes underneath. Not my favorite IPA, but alright.
3.7 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 7/15/2015. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, caramel, toasted biscuit, herbal, floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/pine/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, caramel, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of spicy pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pine, caramel, toasted biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/sticky/resinous mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice american IPA. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of citrus/pine/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and easy to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
3.2 Draught @ Albion. Clear looking copper red color, almost no head with a ring of whitish froth, no discernible aroma, low carbonation, interesting taste starting with honey-caramel continuing hoppy, quite abrupt bitter finish. Queer for an IPA this one.
3.3 Mild side but very drinkable. Went down great with a bit of Tex Mex. cheers
2.6 I DID JOINING TO RATE BEERS IN ORDERS TO CHER MY KNOWLEDGE OF BEERS ANS BEER FLAYVERS ;I FELT HAPPIESNESS TO SEE THAT NO 1 LiKE THIS IPA BECAUSE IT IS PRETTY, PRETTY, PRETTTTTAY BAD. "AIM ON THE MOON AND YOU WILL LAND AMUNG THE STARES." NOT THIS TIME HAHA! BRECK IS LOW GRADE HOOCH MAKERS AND THEYRE KNEW PLAYCE IS GOING TO PRODUCE EVEN MORE HOOCH FOR TOURESTS AND PRISONERS AND PEOPLE LIKE THOSE?
3.6 Nice and balanced. Malty color with a slight malty taste. Hoppy without being overpowering. Good finish. Definitely drink again.
2.9 Hazy amber with a thin head. Aroma is pretty mild, a slight nuttiness. Flavor is a little fruity, not especially hoppy, slight citrus finish. Okay.
3.2 I a lighter IPA which tastes like a session ale...surprise to see it is all the way up at 6.2%. Taste is mostly floral hops with medium bitterness. Just enough malt backbone to balance out the hops. Meh.
3.0 Rated on 9-20-2013 (Bottle) The appearance of this beer when poured is a small ivory head that is mostly lasting, hazy amber body, very fizzy, fast rising carbonation, a lot of floaties, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, grassy, citrus hops, and a little floral. The flavor is moderately bitter, citrus hops, grassy, and caramel malt. The mouthfeel is bubbly and this IPA is medium bodied. A quaffable IPA that is not over-the-top hoppy tasting.
3.1 Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber with a creamy white head. Aroma is floral and citrusy, some herbs, toasted malt, and toffee. Flavor is similar, some orange flavor too. Thin palate and feel. Ok but not complex.
3.1 Tap @ Breckenridge. Deep amber, white head. Hoppy aroma, caramel, apricot, spruce, cheese, orange peel. Off-dry, medium to full bodied, mid to high bitterness, balanced CO2. Hoppy, fruity, slightly cheesy taste, apricot, spruce, resin. Decent. (2014-04-05)
2.8 Pours a golden orange color with white head. Bitter finish is not my favorite
2.8 Tap at Luckywell. Hazy amber nice head. Flavor isn’t crisp and muddy between hops and malt. Should be better.
3.2 lots of hop, rubber from new tennis shoes, slight citrus, slight sweetness.
3.1 Amber with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is fruity and some caramel, a little spicy. Flavor follows. Tangy. Citrus. Soft Pine. Sweet. Some spiciness. Mild bitterness. Good drinkability.
3.0 On nitro. Pours true amber with a thick creamy off white head. Aroma is sweet with very mild pine. Taste is smooth and muted pine with a long medium bitter finish. An IPA without the bite.
2.7 Draft. Hazy golden color, small white head. Aroma is slightly earthy. Taste is cream soda, minimal bitterness.
2.7 On tap at Crossroads Pub & Grill into a pint glass. Light amber and clear appearance with an off-white head and thick lacing. Aroma of resinous hops, pine, light citrus fruits, bread, toasted grains, light toffee and caramel malts. Similar flavor with medium sweetness and mild to medium bitterness, finishing with light floral, herbal and soapy notes. Medium body, starting out crisp and carbonated and finishing sweet, silky and smooth. Pretty poor IPA overall. Garb.
3.0 Pours a clear coper with a small mocha head. Sweet hops aroma with equal amount of sweet malt. Medium to heavy bitterness with a light sweetness. Light to medium body with a somewhat sticky texture and has a bitter finish that clings to the pallet just a bit.
2.7 Blood orange color, very hazy with a light head. Very earthy, doughy aroma. Taste is very bland - not much happening, and it’s missing the expected hoppiness. Finish is also a little watered down. Not impressed.
3.0 Bottle into tulip. Orange hue, no head. Very thin white lacing. Fairly malty nose hint of orange peel. Thicker malty mouth feel, modest hope. Decent, if unremarkable.
3.2 "another decent session ipa, but a little too mellow and unassuming to standout. the average of 3.0 going in seems a bit harsh, though. grapefruity hops and a decent carmel malt backbone. nothing stands out, nothing is bad."
3.5 Malt aroma right off the bat. To taste you pick up hints of caramel and more malts, not much hops. Lingers nicely, great for malt lovers.
2.9 Can. Pours hazy bright orange with white head. Aroma is oranges, sweet fruits. Taste is a bit chemically, oranges, bitter finish. Meh.
4.1 Had this beer in a bottle. Copper color with thin head. Citrus notes. Nice malt / caramel aftertaste.
3.2 Can into a glass. Orange/copper pour, thin head. Aroma is orange zest, grass, slightly metallic. Taste is orange, grass, bitter, piney, sweet, slight malt backbone. Sticky, resiny finish. Not bad, pretty average.
3.3 Pours an orange-copper color with aroma of pine, grapefruit, and floral notes. Citrus, caramel sweetness with some pine and very mild hop bitterness. Decent beer.
3.7 Poured from the can into my favorite pint glass. To start with the can is very eye pleasing the picture looks like some old school tattoo flash, and the color of the can almost matches the beer. Pours a coupla two-tree fingers of root beer float looking foam on top of this orange tasty beer. I’m not sure if this beer should be called an IPA but it’s very good. Lucky Me for buying it!
3.1 Pours a very dark orange, almost brown. Very cloudy with eighth inch of khaki head. Great nose - citrus and floral hops, strong aromatic tropical fruits, creaminess detectable as well as carmel malt. Lively carbonation, tingly mouthfeel, slightly scaly finish. Tropical fruits and melon flavor, some citrus, carmel malts, strong astringent spruce too.
3.3 Copperish color with a grapefruit and herbal hop aroma. The taste is again grapefruit but with more balanced sweetness from the malts. Overall tastes more earthy in the finish. A hint of a metallic aftertaste which may be the result of an old bottle or something. All in all a good to average beer would like to try a fresher sample.
