4.4 Bottle 3174 out of 3200. Problematically purchased through a chain of friends from Switzerland, but it was well worth it. Third one tasted from the Abstrakt line for me and finally a hit. Aroma sweet fruity, honey, caramel, red apples, very light vanilla (I probably would not notice if I did not know it was added). Lightly hazy amber colour. Taste pleasant, very TASTY, nice belgian character, fruity, honey. Silky smooth mouthfeel, easily drinkable. Alcohol hidden very well. Finish is a bit mild compared to taste, but never mind. The aging went well for this one. Nice experience.
4.2 Bottled. The bottles we tasted was 3-4 years old. Bottled in 2010. Aroma of belgian ales. Taste is sweet sugar, warming alcohol, malt. Alcohol is present but warming. Carbonation is low. Easy to drink but beware! A very tasty beer.
4.4 A - Copper-orange with a finger of off-white head. Fades fairly quickly. S - Dark caramel malts, raisins, figs, other dark fruits, vanilla, Belgian yeast, clove, other spices, some booze. T - Sweet dark caramel malts, raisins, dates, other dark fruits, vanilla, candi sugar, Belgian yeast, clove, pepper, and other spices, and some booze. M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a sweet, warming, lightly spicy finish. D - Great Quad. The vanilla is a nice touch, great balance and mouthfeel.
3.5 Probably a bit past it’stime but still a decent beer Quite clear looking and a decent white head. Lots of rich, dark fruit smell and taste but a growing, earthy sherry quality as well. Hence the past it’s prime remark. Group thought very close to a Westy 12 .
3.5 Bottle thanks to thirdeye11. The look is clear, white head, and copper in color. The smell is pineapples, fruits, nice, yeast, and more fruit. The taste is fruits, hops, and yeast.
3.3 Corked bottle from Cgarvieuk. Amber color. Faded hops and dried fruit in the aroma. Alcoholic flavor, low on carbon. Remains of dried fruit, red fruit, vanilla cake. Upcoming sherry flavors. Probably past its peak.
3.6 Bottle from HJ Hansen, Odense. Clear reddish amber almost without head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit, yeasty, notes of vanilla and alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet finish with warming alcohol. 041112
3.3 Amber color, medium body, sweet caramel and Belgian sugar. Vanilla, banana and ripe fruit. I thought best, not bad.
3.5 37,5cl Bottle @ RBBSG, Courtesy of Travlr. Amber coloured beer with no carbonation and an almost no to a small white head. Fruity apple fruity hinted aroma with some malty vanilla yeasty hinted palate. Medium to full palate. Finish is yeasty stornger hinted with a fruity malty ending. Not bad.
3.4 Amber colour, off-white head. Quite aged aroma, raisins, sweet caramel, banana, light tart/sickly. Sweet, light malty flavour, overripe fruits and sugar. Finish raisins, banana and overripe fruit. (From 37,5cL bottle @ RBBSG II, Wilrijk. Bottle 2954/3200. Courtesy of Travlr. Thanks Gene!)
3.3 Bottle at home. Scarlet tinged, noble hops, sweet honey, heather, toffee, sweet, long finish.
3.7 11/VIII/2012 - 37.5cl bottle @ RBBSG - (2012-892) Thanks to Travlr for sharing the bottle! Little cloudy amber to light brown beer, small off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: fruity, lemony, raisins, bit of caramel. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: some caramel, raisins, bit sweet, sugary touch, hint o caramel, some milk chocolate. Aftertaste: raisins, bit sweet, little fruity, hint of banana. Not bad at all!
3.7 Thx. to Gene for this one // 375 ml. bottle, caged with a plastic cork // love the design on these bottles, simple but... these guys really know marketing // bottled 29.01.2010 // bottle nr. 2954/3200 // red malty brown, little in the way of head // smells sweet, candy, candied fruits, caramel, candy sugar, clearly affected somewhat by age // taste has definetly been affected by age, muted, time hasn’t been kindly to AB’s, these should be drank fresh by what I can tell, this feels way older than 2 years, sweet dark fruits, plenty of aged fruits, caramel, sweet malts, plenty of brown and candy sugar, touch vanilla, there is some serious sugar in this, still remnants of hops in the end // light thinned out // if you still have bottles of this, drink them as fast as you can
2.9 @ 2nd RBBSG, thx to Gene for bringing Head: small, bubbly, off white Colour: red caramelish brown Smell: Very sweet, lots of caramel and candy sugar, lots of sweet malts, just overall sweet ... Taste: thin and sweet, nothing more to add actually ... i’m dissapointed by this one as they’re not cheap ...
2.9 Bottle sample @ 2nd RBBSG, August 11th 2012. Courtesy of Travlr. Bottle 2954/3200. Another bottle in the sea of pricey gimmick Brewdog beers.
3.4 Sampled at RBBSG (courtesy of Travlr). Clear light red color, no head. Not much aroma other than sweetness. Taste malts, sugar, alcohol, lightly sweet. Medium body, warming alcohol, medium carbo.
4.1 Got to have three of these on draft at the White Horse. A - Dark brown/amber with quite a small head and left a bit of lacing but not all that much. edit: Realize that small head is probably due to bartender making sure I have a full 1/2 pint pour . . .Which I appreciate! S - Good amount of vanilla but even more as it warms up, some dark fruit as well and a bit of yeast. The Vanilla is really pronounced as I finish the last sips. T - Vanilla, burnt sugars, caramel (which I guess are the same things!) all up front. Some roasted malt and dark fruit in the middle but the flavors seem to fade on the back end and leaves you with little aftertaste. This is not a horrible thing but it kind of robs you of the fuller experience that you get with other beers. M &D - Very smooth, medium bodied with great carbonation. Easy to drink, I had three of them I am sure I could have had more. Went down very nicely.
2.5 In short: A overly boozy sweet bronze ale with a body too weak to support its alcohol. Very boring How: Bottle 375ml, corked and caged. Consumed approximately 2 years after bottling date. Bottle sent to me by grownfool, thanks Brian The look: Cloudy bronze body topped by a very small beige head In long: Nose is higher alcohol that curled my nostrils hair and crème caramel. Taste is very boozy. For a such a high gravity beer the body was rather light, it tasted like a heavy beer in which someone had poured water, I could taste the big toffee malts yet I also had a watery sensation. Notes of toffee, caramel, ripe bananas. Alcohol burns the lips. Because of the rather frail body the 10.2% is not well hidden at all, I would have guessed even higher. Overall this was too simple and dominated by booze. Meh. And it should be spelled “Abstract” not “Abstrakt”, I hate when people massacre the english language, and the people who use “your” instead of “you’re” I think there stupid.
2.3 Bottle at Ørsted Ølbar & Cafe, June 2012. Slightly hazy amber with a small head. The aroma was sweet with alcohol, "päronsoda" (a Swedish soft drink), spices, yeast and some white spirit. Very dry and sweet taste. A strange beer that was bland.
2.4 En ganska stickande doft åt lacknafta hållet. Vätskan är mycket torr och smaken är mycket blek. Inte alls samma intensitet i smaken som doften. Aning persika.
3.8 21st April 2010 Light haze on the deep gold - amber beer. Thick frothy off white head. The head tastes of sweet toffee with a dash of creme brulee vanilla. Palate is crisp quickly turning frothy, also light and airy. Sweet toffee, a little aniseed licorice. Subtle vanilla. A minerally finish with bitter bubblegum. Slightly bitter aftertaste with a little hop. Good stuff. 14th March 2018 Abstrakt 01 - 25 Vertical @ Brewdog Sheps Bush. Hazy amber, short lived pale tan bubbles. Smooth palate, not much carbonation. Caramel malts, some bitterish toffee underneath. Some ripe fruit bitterness contrasts with a little vanilla. Light dry finish. Bitterish linger. Not bad, clearly aged but not completely dead. 3.3
3.5 Bottle from Mikkeller bar. Pours cloudy amber with an off white head and sediment. Aroma of ripe fruit, raisins and spice. Flavour of malt, raisins, ripe fruit and caramel. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.5 Bottle shared with (and great courtasy of) the fantastic Bergen tasting crew with such stars as ClubGonzo, Inbreak and Palme, and the mighty StoreMy. Visually, the beer has a clear amber colour, but is slightly hazy, with a small off-white head. The aroma is characterized by leather, wood, nuts, marzipan, and a perfumy touch towards alcohol. The taste is not very different from the aroma where I recognize wood (birch?), leather, more nuts, and alcohol at the end. Feels light and fine in the mouth with a medium bitterness. A good strong beer.
3.4 Bottle. Dark amber with a white head. Fairly weak aroma, fruity yeast esters, bubblegum and banana, some alcohol also. Similar taste, again, quite weak, alcohol comes through. A very oily texture, sweet with a bitter finish. Not bad
3.6 Bottle at Bens. Bottle 721 - Jan 2010. Pours a reddy brown with a cream coloured head and a lot of suspended yeast sediment. Fruity Belgian yeast nose. Not a strong aroma. Tastes of Belgian yeast - berries, candy and banana. The malt is nice but the yeast offers an unwelcome bitterness. Any vanilla is marginal. Very nice but not a contender compared to the style.
3.5 375 ml bottle. Bottled on 29.01.2010. Bottle #2573 of 3200. Pours a dark amber colour without a head. Aroma of strong sweet berries and vanilla. Flavour of sweet berries, toffee, vanilla, raisins and some nutty tones. Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel and a warming, fruity and dry finish. Has clearly lost it’s edge already.
3.6 375 ml bottle. Bottled. 29.01.2010. Bottle no. 2573/3200. Pours hazy, almost clear red color with no head. Aroma of ripe fruits like raisins and plum, dark berries, caramel malts and sugar candy. Flavor of mild dark berries, vanilla, yeast, dark malts, ripe fruits, caramel and some earth. A bit disappointing. 4426
3.7 37,5 cl bottle @ lusikka. Bottle #2573, bottled 29.01.2010 (japanese marking: BBE 15.06.2020) Aroma is sweetish with dark fruits and vanilla. Flavour has vanilla, dark fruits, plums, raisins, spices, some toffee and berries. No signs of alcohol at first, it does occur as this warms up – and it becomes stinging right away. Rather straightforward considering the style, maybe this could use more spices or malt.
3.5 375ml bottle Bottled on 29.01.2010, bottle #2573/3200 - Pours dark brown with a tiny white head. Aroma of ripe fruits, malts, yeast, vanilla and spices. Taste is quite malty and smooth with notes of ripe fruits and a lot of vanilla. Finish is quite mild, slick and slightly malty with some alcohol coming through. A bit unbalanced, quite heavy on the vanilla notes. Surprisingly light bodied.
3.5 Bottle @ Mikkeller. Dark red-brown with a slight off-white head. Yeast, malts, caramel, candy, plums, figs, vanilla. Low carbonation.
