3.7 375ml bottle with a black cork, no.6122/8972, bought at Vinmonopolet Vika more than three years ago. Oily pour revealing a low, bubbly, off-white head. Clear rosewood coloured body. Smell of dried fruits like prunes and raisin with a touch of oak. Sweet taste of berries, dried fruit, oak and earth. Drying bittersweet ending with warming alcohol. Sherry impression. Full bodied. Slow sipper that gets a tad too sweet in the long run (shared with Finn, Tromsø 10.12.2014).
3.7 Flaske # 6122/89730 375ml. Spandert av og delt med Rune på Nerstranda 10 Des. 14. Tungåpnet! Svakt skudd. Ultradyprød/amber. Bobler i glasset. Veldig lavt skum. Rik plommearoma. Preg av sherry. Smaken likeså. Søt frukt. Et skikkelig koseøl.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost beer without any head on top. Aroma of alcohol, roast, chocolate and toffee. Flavor is very sweet, also some light bitterness detected in the back. The alcohol is quite overpowering and warming. Never thought aging a black IPA would work out so nice. Low carbonation, silky mouthfeel. Good stuff.
3.5 Des dattes, raisins secs, cassonade et chocolat blanc réunis dans le même liquide pour se faire piéger par des houblons terreux et herbacés à la vigueur lointaine. définitivement pas ce qu’elle était mais franchement intéressante quand même.
3.6 Bottle at Craig’s. Pours black, light roasted nose, sweet, thin, light malty bitter taste.
3.6 375ml Bottle at home from drinkstore. Pours oily black with no head. Nose is liquorice, alcohol, coffee vanilla, grass. Flavour is toasted malts, earth, liquorice, milk. Smooth with no carbonation and a warm finish. It?s got a light feel for the abv which is odd. The abv is managed well. Definitely a sipping beer.
3.9 Mycket söts inslag i aromen, torkad frukt. Rätt lugn och balanserad i kropp och smak.
Note de noix discrète. Finale amère.
3.9 Not overly typical black IPA but I certainly enjoyed it. Oily black with a small tan head. Great smell. Chocolate, earth, malts, some citrus hops, coconut, alcohol is there but not aggressive. Good beer.
3.1 AB 6 Bottle courtesy of Hugh. Pours reddish black with a very small dark moch head that quickly dissipates without leading any trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, earth and herbal with roasted malts, grapefruit rinds, dark roast coffee, pine needles, resinous wood, moist grass and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty, earthy and herbal with roasted malts, burnt caramel, resinous wood, moist grass, pine needles, moist soil, sweetened coffee and alcohol. Mouthfeel is viscous, syrupy, boozy, astringent and near full bodied. Finish is heavy bitter with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, resinous wood, pine needles, moist soil, liquorice and burnt caramel. Huge but I imagine this is way past it’s prime,
3.3 Bottle shared by esp0r with me and edvard, september 27th 2013. Pretty dark brown body, thick light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, ash, piney hops. Taste is slightly sweet chocolate with coffee, licorice and earthy hops. Noticable alcohol. Thick body and medium carbonation. Leaves an aftertaste of prunes and licorice. Enjoyable, but I guess it’s a lot fresher when young.
3.3 Keg at the AB:06 launch at the Euston Tap, with Scopey and MesandSim. Deep, deep ruby/near black with a little bit of white head. Nose has roasted malt, tar, sugars. Palate is rather tarry and sticky but not massively so. Lots of sweet resin in the middle of the tongue. Coffee and cough medicine hints. Alcohol well hidden, not too boozy. Needs to age and grow, you feel.
3.6 From a bottle. Pours a murky root beer color with almost no head or lacing. Tastes like tobacco, earthy, dry, light raisin and light ash, and roasted grains and coffee as it warms. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like roasted grains, raisins, tobacco, and booze.
3.6 Bottle. Pours mostly clear brown with thin beige head. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts, earthy notes, plums, fig, and light spice. Flavor is smooth roast notes, balancing hops, faint smoke, and some dark fruit sweetness; dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.6 Bottle via trade with cgarvieuk. Pours clear dark brown to black with a small, fizzy off-white head, short retention with spotty lacing. Aroma is toast, caramel, and chocolate malt with earthy, pine, and herbal hops and dates. Flavor is dark malt, medium hops and moderate bitterness with light oxidation, dark fruits and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
4.0 Bottle shared with Zlotta and Koelschtrinker. Fast schwarze Farbe, geringe beige schaumkrone. Geruch ist sehr röstmalzig, Lakritze, toffee, schokoladig. Geschmack ist sehr malzig, süß, viel Lakritze, schokoladig, kräftig, alkoholisch.
4.5 Pours nearly black with a head that fades completely away quickly. Aroma has roasted maltiness and really strong hoppiness - a special combination - with notes of grass, pine and licorice. Taste is similar with strongly hopped Imperial Stouts as it is both very bitter and richly malty. The taste is sweet and roasty at first; the finish is dry and bitter. Flavours of dark malts, grassy hops and licorice. The palate is nearly full bodied, the carbonation low. An excellent, complex and a really strong beer. One of my top 5 beers of all time.
3.0 Backlog. Tasted at a vertical tasting of the first six abstracts released. Bottles from Systembolaget. More fun experiment than good beer.
4.0 How: Bottle. Where: The Bishops Arms (Folkungagatan), Stockholm. Appearance: Dark brown colour with a small tan head. Aroma: Plum, raisin, dried fruit, apricot. Body: Full body, low carbonation. Flavour: Dried fruit, raising, plum, alcohol.
3.3 Bottle from Brewdog online I think. Pours coke colour with thin caramel head. Big oily resin nose. Thick sugary mouthfeel. Lightly roasted, balanced bitterness. This is much better than the last Abstrakt I had (05 I think?).
3.5 From notes. Poured almost black, with essentially no head. Aroma of plum, apple, burnt nuts, grass, pine and hints of licorice. Sweet taste, with a dry, roasty somewhat bitter finish. Decent.
3.1 Dark brown pour, tan head. Resinous flavors, roasted malt, cocoa powder, grapefruit peel. Ok.
3.9 Taster from bottle. Found a cellared stash at La Cantinetta, Rimini. It pours a deep dark brown colour with minimal off white head. Aroma is big on tropical fruits and alcohol. Mango and pineapple sorrounded by whisky. Taste is well balanced between hoppy bitter notes and liqueur sweetness. Still very fruity. Medium to thin mouthfeel with carbonation. Still very good.
3.6 Bottle - Vintage ?? - Perfumy citrus and pine. Black with a thin beige head. Flowery citrus and pine translate into taste with a roast malt in the background. Although booze is there it is masked well and works with the sweetness. There is next to no bitterness and is very dry. Unfortunately there is no carbonation left which ruins it a bit.
3.7 Bottle shared @ Dak’s Black Friday tasting. Dark mahogany pour with chestnut edges and an obsidian core. Roasted malt, aged hops, slight citrus, evergreen, and cocoa. Bitter. ABV is well hidden.
3.6 Bottle from delirium hoppy loft Bottle 6101 / 8973 Pours clear dark brown . No head Smell is faded hop , sweet , roasted malts , some chocolate Very low carbo . Almost flat . Sweet , bit syrupy . Bit bitter , very faded hops . Nice , but too flat . Age , maybe ?
3.4 Corked 37.5 cl bottle @ home (bottle #4945). Pours black with some sediment and no head. Aroma and flavour is faded hops (if that makes any sense), fruit, malt, and liquorice – with a slightly bitter finish.
