The beer is an 11.5% Imperial Brown Ale which we have aged in amazing Spanish sweet red barrels from Malaga. Stewart Bowman, our Head Brewer, devised an Imperial Brown Ale designed to perfectly complement the wine flavours and extract maximum depth and character from the giant barrels. We also felt the Imperial Brown Ale was ideally suited to be barrel aged and as well as the infusion of the Malaga wine character will also benefit added complexity and maturity from the time in oak.

2.9375 ml corked & caged green bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 11.5%. Bottle No. 9861 out of 9987. Very dark brown colour, thin beige head. Aroma of malts, molasses, fusel, dark dried fruits and stale jam. Minimal carbonation in the mouth. Sweet and alcoholic flavour of molasses, dark dried fruits and oak, fairly bitter finish. Warming mouthfeel. Like most other BrewDog Abstrakt beers: Not worth the money. Won’t pay for any more of them myself.
4.4Bottle at Erzbierschof Zurich. Beautiful brown color. A warm flat almost port-like strong ale with lots of prunes and barrel taste. Boozy and warm, perfect for a winter night at a snowy cottage with a cackling open fire.
3.9375 ml bottle shared with the group via b3shine. Pours a dark cola brown color with a few random bubbles. The aroma and flavor have toasted malts, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate, a nice vinous character, this comes off more as a digestif, low carbonation works ok here, thick mouthfeel, a sipper for sure.
3.7Bottle. Poured clear dark ruby brown with a moderate frothy brown head that mostly diminished with little lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt, wood with a small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted malt sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.
3.7Bottle shared by alexsdad06 pour opaque dark brown with minimal tan head. Nose malt, earthy, salted caramel, toffee. Taste sweeter malt, caramel, malt, hint of dark fruit and wine. Very thick mouth feel. Sweeter finish.
3.6Bottle, thanks to tmoney99 for sharing. Pours a dark brown color, with minimal head. Wonderful aroma of dark chocolate, raisins, nice wine, oak, nuts, sherry. Pretty pleasant. Medium to bigger body. Minimal carbonation. Mild slick, leading to a mild dry finish. Moderate sweet taste, though more dry on the end. Mild bitterness, and a pleasant light alcohol warmth pushing the vinous flavors in the aftertaste. A little carbonation wouldn’t have hurt, but otherwise, this is pretty tasty one to sip a small bit of. Seems like it aged alright.
4.5Bottle. 2202/9987. Bottled: 20/06/12.
Pours dark brown and watery. No head at all. Cant even muster one up. Nose is toffee, a slight whisky, Soy sauce. In the mouth it’s slick, a gives initial melted toffee flavours, like biting into a liquier. It’s surprisingly subtle. There’s a little saltiness, some sweetness and caramel qualities. You CAN pick out some of that red wine and oak from the beer. Vanilla. A slight whisky. This is incredible. Not even sure this counts as "beer" any more.
3.2375 ml bottle shared with crew. Pours a deep brown-black with an orange-brown tint and no head at all. Aroma is soy sauce, molasses and coffee. Flavor is salt, molasses, coffee, chocolate and dark grapes. Finish is alcohol, port wine and grapes. Full body, velvety and oily mouthfeel, no carbonation.
3.9pours hazy/cloudy medium dark brown without a head, no lacing whatsoever. port raisins, beef stock, salty molasses, burnt caramel, controlled level of sweetness, oaky vanilla. low carbonation, medium body - oily; sweet, woodsy and spicy finish. dense and pretty solid.
3.5375ml bottle, #6298.
Pours a deep brown, with almost no head.
Complex, mature aroma, caramel, chocolate, wood, vanilla, earth, toffee.
Semi-sweet, full bodied, mid bitterness, low CO2.
Complex, mellow taste, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, wood, dark raspberry fruit, cinnamon, licorice, faint smoke.
Quite well balanced, slightly over the hill, but still very enjoyable. (2015-12-12)
4.0Scuro color marrone, schiuma poco persistente. Pungente, nocciolata, maltosa e fruttata; gusto dolciastro, vinoso e meno rotondo dell’atteso, corpo medio, effervescenza debole.
3.6Cellared 3 years. Pours a dark, murky and muddy burgundy brown with a thin few bubble thick head. Oily alcohol legs on the glass, no carb. The nose is rich and sweet with a very earth based malt aroma. Wood, light fruity notes, vanilla, espresso bean and richly roasted malts. The flavour is much lighter and silky smooth with a moderate alcohol presence on the finish. Vanilla and espresso bean are very subtle with a light roasted malt bitterness. Nicely done.
3.9From the very old notes, hence this is not a real rating, but more just a mark to myself that I have tried this at one point. Nice sweet and boozy brew with vinous notes.

Cuerpo medio a intenso muy líquido con sensación alcoholica con 11.5 vol. Líquida con más menos sensación alcohólica y poco o casi nada amargo final. Bastante buena pero Se esperaba un poco más.
3.0Bottle.
APPEARANCE: clouded brown beer, almost no head.
NOSE: chocolate, mocha, coffee.
TASTE: chocolate, mocha, coffee, some anise.
3.811.5% ABV
Again with the velvet gloved alcoholic fist. Then a soothing berry laced wheaty ride all the way to the end then a surprising finish that can only be described as umami.
Of course there are the obvious luo han guo flavor notes.
The 10 has a taste of jasmine green tea?!
Overall a very euphoric experience today. I don’t exactly know why. I think it had to do with the fact that I had the 10 on an empty stomach. More likely that my constitution just found a better balance between 11.5% ABV and the gustation of a finely crafted Abstrakt.
Finally, it could be the small differences in each batch that could have accounted for the impression that this 10 was lighter on the palate, had a more fruity and less musky nose and finished a little cleaner, hinting of a pale ale finish.
Utseende: Sort.
Skum/kullsyre: Nesten ikke skum, ring langs kant.

3.8Aroma has lots of honey, some caramel and hints of burnt wood and spices. It completely lacks head.Taste is sweet, but not as sweet as expected the bitterness balance the sweetness perfectly. The taste is mainly raisins and dark chokolate.
3.9(Bottle) Dark brown colour, almost black, with brief frothy head. Malty nose with notes of prunes, raisins, black rye bread, treacle, chocolate, a touch of coffee, liquorice and hints of oak wood. Malty, fruity taste with raisins, dried fruit, black rye bread, chocolate, liquorice, sweet coffee, brown sugar and a vinous finish with a gentle roasty bitterness and a warming touch of sweet red wine. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Rounded mouthfeel. Complex and tasty, quite warming. Very nice.
3.9Bue en bouteille de 37,5cl. Nez liquoreux, palais fruit rouge, alcool, pointe de sucre candi. Ensemble agréable. Produit spécial mais intéressant.
3.6Bottle at Beer Hunters. Opaque black color, no head. Soya, toastyness and sugar in the nose. Also light oxizided "milkyness". Medium-bodied, velvety palate. Toffee, alcohol has toned down somewhat, madeirawineish flavors. Aged gently.
4.0Clear brown with no head or lacing just as the other Abstract series. Aroma of dried fuit, red wine and wood. A profound taste of red wine, fruit and alcohol. Aftertase is wine-ish but don’t linger too long.
3.9Aroma is plum, raisin, beligian sugar candy and rich malts. Taste is a deep rich maltiness that is accompanied by a dark fruity body that leaves a nice warm liquor feeling. Light earthy hoppiness fairly pale. Appearance is a dark murky brown/amber with small sediment in suspension. Head is thin and retains fairly poorly.
4.0Man this is an interesting beer. Pours exactly like coca cola. The nose is great, full of red wine, rich chocolate, fruity and BOOZE! First thing that hit me on tasting was port. Then followed some chocolate, cherries and dark fruits with a woody note in there too. Real syrupy mouthfeel. I think great beer - had it with a roast and enjoyed. I can see how it would be polarising though.
3.8375ml bottle #6676/9987, cork, 11.5%. Black, small ring of white head. Aroma is sherry, raspberry, tulip flowers, some alcohol. Body is medium, smooth, not foamy. Very smooth body. Taste is tangy coffee syrup, malty, semisweet, tannic, no bitterness. Nice red wine character. Smooth as you like. One of the best I’ve had in the Abstrakt series (not that that’s saying much, but this one is smooth and drinkable).
3.9Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is fruity, roasted, taste is sweet, berries, roast malts.
3.6375 ml bottle. Pours a black colour with a small head. Aroma of roasted malts, salty licorice and some bread. Flavour of roasted malts, some licorice, bread, vanilla, dark chocolate and some cream. Full bodied and oily mouthfeel. Good.
3.9375 ml bottle. Bottle No. 8617/9987. Bottled on 20.06.2012.
Pours dark red color with no head. Very vinous on the nose, dark berries, some sugary notes and vanilla, maybe some distant port notes. Sweet caramel and plums on the flavor, faint licorice, port wine notes with vanilla, alcohol comes through but keeps at bay. Smooth palate. Better than I expected.
