BrewDog Albino Squid Assassin

BrewDog Albino Squid Assassin

This tentacled terminator packs a punch - ten punches to be precise. Each hop addition adds to the intense layers of depth in this red rye IPA. Toasty caramel & cinder toffee from crystal malts, cacao richness from intensely roasted malt and the spiciness of rye. Zesty pithiness from citra and the robust resin of chinook. This small batch exclusive brew is up-front intensity matched with twisted complexity.

The can features awesome custom art from Joe Wilson.

5.0 A very good tasting IPA.
3.9 Can - 355ml. Pours a beautiful cloudy, amber body with an average, lasting, off-white foamy/creamy head. Nice malty/hoppy aroma with rye, barley sugar, and some woody hints. Alcohol is discreet. Its robust, well balanced malty/hoppy taste carries barley sugar, woody, grainy, and zesty notes. Ends with a long, sharp, moderately warming, bittersweet finish. Good stuff.
3.7 Copper hued beer out of the tap with a yellowish cream colored head. Nose of sweet citrus and hop resin. Lots of hop resin flavors with some pine, grapefruit rind and an earthy note. Caramel sweetness with a syrupy mouthfeel. Nice alcohol presence.
4.1 An unfiltered caramel/mahogany body with a well-laced off-white head. The nose includes rye spice, caramel and a touch of fruitiness. Well blended elements of rye spiciness, citrus and tropical hops, caramel, and biscuit and chewy malts. Solid medium body with a slight slickness.

3.8 Draft. Poured clear dark copper color with an average frothy white head that lasted with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy earthy balanced aroma. Medium to abundant body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of medium to long duration. This beer met my expectations.
3.7 Pours a slightly hazy copper red on tap with bubbly tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of light caramel and toasted malts with an earthy and citrus hop punch. Taste has a bit more of the hops, with a decent little rye kick to the caramel malts. Decent.
4.0 Keg at BrewDog Camden in 2015. Clear, really deep golden with a white head. Aroma of rye, cereal, caramel, coriander and heather. Big hit of resinous hops in the flavour. Peel, pine and boiled sweets at the end.
3.6 On tap at Craft Room, Zagreb. Deep dark ruby red, small off-white head. Aroma is an interesting combo of butterscotch, spice, overripe red fruit and wood. Stale flavour, malts everywhere, good balance between toast and caramel. Bread, rye givinge the spicy note out. Hops subdued but playing its part. Sweet, subtle. Drinkable. Dry finish, very nice barrel presence in the end.
3.8 Draught @ BrewDog Tower Hill. Clear reddish amber colour, small head with good durability, fair lacing, soft carbonation. Nose is caramel, toffee, strawberries. Flavour is medium sweet, again caramel, and finishes with a solid piney bitterness. Very good!
3.6 Keg at Brewdog Tower Hill, hugely hoppy with toasty spicy notes, and a burnt bitterness. Re-rate in a can from Home Bargains at £1.29, bitter orange, spicy rye and a touch of smoke, a bit sticky-sweet and a pithy bitterness.
3.7 Keg at BrewDog, Soho. Copper coloured pour with a white head. Nose of toffee, toffee apple, overripe peach, dried fruit. Flavours of plum jam, toffee apple, dried fruit, sweet malt approach. Very good.
1.5 OK, from a can got it from chalet premier. Aroma of hop perfume cleaning fluid. Bitter of course, and darker than expected. Cloudy eye. Yes, terrible on style IPA tasty stuff with a big rye(?) piercing happy bullshit bitter ass kick in the palate, go figger, isn't his is what all IPA and specialty rye beers about? Insult my taste buds and then say it's for the better? Holy shit. Everything form these brewdog people are terribly on style over the top. How could this even be in the same category as Beaver Roggenator, Sprague Farm French and Indian Corn Ale, Green's Discovery, Indigo Imp Fiend, 2.68 4/3/2011 Stone Spröcket Bier or even Petrucci Brothers Rye Not? Dude, get with it.
4.4 Spicy hoppy rye ipa
4.0 0.33 can at Ministarstvo beer bar. Hazy copper colour with thick white head, aroma is hoppy, herbal and citrus, rye , taste is hoppy, fruity , medium sweetness, great bitterness, fruit and hops in the aftertaste, great mouthfeel.
4.1 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 10/31/2018. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep orange/copper/light reddish color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky cream colored head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/zest, wood, light peppercorn, pine, caramel, brown sugar, spicy rye, toasted biscuit, light nutty/toffee/roast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/rye/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/zest, wood, light peppercorn, pine, caramel, brown sugar, spicy rye, toasted biscuit, light nutty/toffee/roast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness; and rye spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, caramel, brown sugar, spicy rye, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/rye/bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness and rye spiciness balance; with no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/sticky, and fairly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.4%. Overall this is an awesome red rye IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/rye/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/resinous/drying finish, not aggressive. Awesome Citra/Chinook profile. Very juicy and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a great dark/rye/bready malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and impressive style example. Not overly bitter/spicy on the rye.
3.7 12 ounce can poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a hazy amber with a thick head of beige foam. The aroma is grassy, earthy, toasty, spicy, and a bit of skunk funk. Sweet and earthy taste. Lighter bitterness. Bigger body and medium carbonation.
4.0 330ml can from BrewDog Tallinn. Pours clear deep darker golden amber, big beige head stays nicely. Aroma is malty, rye, caramelly, hoppy, slightly herbal with hints of smoke. Taste is rather sweet, caramelly, malty, rye bread crust. Hops and bitterness more in aftertaste. Medium body, bit below average carbonation. Very complex and nice with good drinkability, probably one of the best rye ipas I've had.
