3.5Bottle from the BD online shop in 2012... and finally consumed in 2015. Pours slightly turbid, a deep orange like Seville marmalade. Has a classic ’old IP’ nose of candied peel, a mix of caramel and sugary citrus. Medium carbonation. Toothsome sugariness, some more marmalade, barley sugar, boiled sweets, a bit of burnt orange tang. Firm bitterness to finish. Clearly way past its best but actually quite a pleasant drink, like a soft, very fruity barley wine.
3.8How: Bottle Appearance: amber, small white head Aroma: grape, sweet berries, honey Palate: medium body, low carbonation.
3.7Bottle, aged ~2 years to see what happens. Best before 05/06/2017. Aroma rich malty, fruity, raisins. Lightly hazy orange-amber colour. Taste is pretty strong alcoholic, high hopping still evident, but rather citrusy, zesty, and receding to background. Full malty taste, result similar to american barley wine. Interesting development, showcasing the hops (un)aging.
3.9Bottle by Gurthnar. Pours hazy deep orange color, lightly beige head. Aroma of honey, citrusy, malty, fruity. Taste is sweet, medium bitter, orange, malty, peach. Lot if alcohol in the end.
3.5[6471-20140708] Bottle. Light caramel toffee aroma. Clear, golden amber body with a quick foamy off-white head. Sweet boozy toffee and caramel wood flavour. Medium-full body. Good. (8/3/7/3/14) 3.5.
(Tasting at cgarvieuk’s, w/ him, BenH, jercraigs, Stuu666, others)
Overheard: "You can only have beer in brown bottles."
4.7Bottle at BrewDog Camden on 9 Apr 2012. Poured a clear, bright orange, with a dense off white head. Aroma of massive resinous hops, grapefruit, passionfruit, mango and honeycomb. Super smooth mouthfeel. Golden syrup flavours, with tinned fruit, melon, biscuit, burnt sugar and herbs. Perfect balance of intense bitter hops, pine, grass and sweet fruit and caramelised sugar in the finish. Possibly the best BrewDog beer I’ve ever had...
3.9Orange browny with small head. Very sweet barley wine style double ipa. Bitter sweet aftertaste
3.7Amber coloured brew. Very siropy, and alcoholic. Ruins it a bit, cause the fruity taste on its own is not bad at all.
3.8330ml bottle from Hopology, Nottingham. Dark orange body small beige head. Aroma is malty, caramel, fruit, and hops. Flavour is moderately bitter throughout, with caramel malt, moderate fruity hops, with a bitter finish.
4.0One of those exciting Brewdog things, a kind of ’triple IPA’, with a coarse, yellowish white, thick but quickly dissipating head (the latter does not have to surprise given the very impressive alcohol strength) and a warm amber glowing colour, cristal clear, very pretty, quietly fizzy. Very, and I mean very powerful aroma, with overwhelming hops and equally overwhelming alcohol, but none of the two really disturb me because the whole bouquet boosts complexity enough, with hints of cognac, cloves, apple sauce, candied orange, tonic water, mango, grapefruit, banana liqueur, pine needles and methylated spirits. In the mouth an onset of a liqueurish sweetishness, as in Grand Marnier, medium carbonation, caramelly and honeyish malts smooth, not too thick especially in view of its strength, towards the end a ’green’, overpowering hop bitterness stripping the tongue along with the expected booze, reminiscent of brandy and gin and drying mouth and throat alike, in a sticky and - unfortunately but understandably - somewhat astringent way. An interesting experience nevertheless.
3.82014-07-08. Crisp dark orange body small beige head. 3+ Aroma is pleasant, malty, caramel, fruit, moderate alcohol. Flavour is moderately bitter throughout, Caramel malt, moderate fruity hops. Booze is present but restrained. Smooth medium to full bodied palate, light carbonation. Quite nice. Bottle, Tasting at cgarvieuk’s, Edinburgh
4.1Bottled @beernest. This is the strongest IPA I have had, and the only "triple IPA", which is written on its label. I should say it is really a strong one, don't try it after you've had several beers.
4.0Bottle at Craig’s. Pours copper amber, nose is toffee, pine, taste is dry, hugely bitter, sweet toffee, fruity, holding up well.
4.0From a bottle. Wow, this is a big beer, no, huge beer. The super rich hops flavours have a grapefruit edge, strong as hell but no sharp alcohol punch like I expected. This is a very well made beer.
3.9Color nararanja con bastante turbidez. Poca formacion de espuma, persistencia media-escasa. Caramelo en nariz y boca. Cuerpo intenso.
3.8Cor laranja escuro, turva, espuma bege clara de média formação e baixa persistência; pouco lacing;
Aroma de mel, caramelo bem doce, maracujá e abacaxi;
Sabor de início doce de caramelo que evolui rapidamente para meio e fim com amargor cítrico intenso (mesmo sabor), finalizando com sabor alcoólico que aquece a boca. Baixa fernrntação;
Retrogosto alcoólico.
2.5Bottle from Brewdog online shop, shared with jeevan. A bit of a boozy, sugary mess, as I recall.
3.7Bottle 0,33l. Pours a dark amber colour with a medium head that leaves a big nice lacing. Aroma of hops, alcohol, caramel and toasted malts, lots of toffee and the faintest touch of resin. Taste of sweet malts, dominating the palate, nice lengthy bitterness. Oily texture.
3.7Cloudy dark gold pour with a fizzy pale gold head. Grapefruit aroma, some toffee. Taste starts out sweet caramel, grapefruit, boozy warmth. Thick body, warm, bitter finish.
3.80,33 l bottle, Csakajósör - rated one year before, just from my notes
Pours golden brown with not much head. Aroma is malty with an alcohol kick. Pretty nice to sup, finishes sweet and alcoholic with some grapefruit hops in there. As it warms up, it becomes more pleasant and becomes a nice fruity barley wine.
3.8Cold bottle, BB March 2017 so I guess this was bottled over 18 months ago. Looks a murky orange/red with a small white head. Looks good. Smell - rosewater, toffee, slight earth. Body is medium, carbonation medium too. Taste - very sweet malts, caramel, slight liquorice, earthy, spice, alcoholic but not sharp at all and hiding the 14% extremely well. Also no bitterness or astringency. I’m sure that this was once a great TIPA. With a bit of age and oxidation, it’s a pretty good barley wine.
3.6Bernstein, aroma süsslich, frichtig und likör, ziemlich süss im geschmack, etwas streng alkoholisch, feinbitter
3.6330ml bottle. Malty, liquor, caramel, fruity aromas. Pours hazy deep gold, almost murky, with nice off-white head, persistent, some lacing. Medium body, soft carbonation, oily exture. Taste is liquor, caramel, spicy, fruity, liquorice. Balanced for the high abv.
3.9Bottle from Brewdog website. Dark amber coloured with a very sharp red fruit and bitter hoppy flavour, notes of burnt orange, currants, vanilla and an extremely warming spicy hoppy finish
3.8Bottle. Amber colour not much head. Aroma is very boozy, bit of pee about it too, grapefruit. Taste is good, bit of a burn, boozy fruit, treacle. Thick and chewy. Bitter too. Surprised how nice it was. Whole bottle would be tough, but glass was good.
3.5Bottle from Mane Liquor. Been sitting at the back of my fridge for too long. Pours muddy golden amber with a short, white head. Immediate aroma of caramel and toasted malts, lots of toffee and the faintest touch of resin. Smells like a big barley wine. Taste is quite boozey - lots of sticky sweet malt flavours dominating the palate, nice lengthy bitterness buried under it all. Drinkable, just not what I was expecting. My fault for leaving it for too long.
