Brewed to encapsulate the flavours of mezcal, this bright golden beer smoulders with smoky notes, as well as intense fruit character. A strong ale brewed with smoked malt and smoked agave syrup, aged in both Islay and Speyside casks, some loaded with Sal de Gusano.
The resultant barrel-aged beer swings wildly between the intense Islay notes, crackling with peat smoke and toasted marshmallow, and the rich, fruity Speyside bringing peach, apricot and mango.

2.4Keg at Brewdog, Oxford, Sunday 29th October 2017 prior to going to a gig at The Bullingdon by Jane Weaver. Pours hazy gold with a slim white head. Lots of peat on the nose, the barrel ageing and abv are very apparent here. Strong beer, too much peat, germoline here for me so much so that I went off this instantly. A5 A3 T4 P3 Ov9 2.4
3.5Gold/ copper with a solid white head. Aroma is peated nuts, malt, hop. High alcohol, vanilla, caramel, and red fruit on the body. Too much alcohol
3.4Bottle (online from Beer Cartel) in Belgian Ale glass. Notes of smoke from the nose through to the palate. Unique among ASA's I've sampled but not really my cup of tea.
4.5On tap @ Brewdog Ellon
A great beer. A nice whisky tastelike. Surprisingly complex but balanced
4.4Vom Fass Stone Brewing Berlin 2016-10 getrunken. Erinnert mich sehr an schottische gemälzte Gerste. Gefährlich süffig, süßlich und mit etwas Frucht.
3.1Had it a while ago on tap at BrewDog Tallinn, didn’t take notes. Was a pretty memorable brew, albeit quite weird. The aroma was almost intolerable, yet in a way addictive, had to gather my strength before I felt confident enough to taste it. The mezcal was really dominant, almost burying everything else. Very peaty too. Was somewhat oily and resiny, caramelly, and very boozy. Let’s say this was ’interesting’.
3.4KØLF 240217. Golden color with an off-white head. Aroma is peat, malt, hop. Flavor is alcohol, peat, malt, hop, vanilla, caramel, fruit. Too boozy beer.
2.9Tap at brewdog. Pours dark orange. Aroma is smoke, peat, sweetness, booze. Flavor is sweet and bitter, peat, ash, sugar, malt, fruits, booze. Finish is smoke and sugar with some booze. Overall: drinkable, but the booze+peat+sugar combo isn’t my favorite..
3.8Peaty amber brew that tastes of the barrels it was aged in. Big whiskey nose cleanse and throat scratch. Oddly not too overbearing, just on the right side of balance.
3.6On tap at Brewdog Bar. Pours golden yellow colour. Thin white head. Peat, notes of whisky, smoke in the aroma. Peat, smoke, notes of caramel, slight notes of alcochol. Peat, whiskey in the aftertaste. Woody notes, hints of vanilla. Rather medium bodied, quite smoky, moderately carbonated brew.
3.6Tap (Brewdog, Tallinn) (7+:4:7-:4-:14+=3.6)
Lovely rich chewy tarry smoky aroma, some sausage, some woodiness, sweetish but dryish. Bright orange, small tight off-white head settles to a ring. Nice full palate, present, but not over-full - exactly right for this strength/type of beer. Carbonation lightens it nicely. Drier smoky taste, again quite tarry, peaty and woody. Alcohol totally covered - this goes down very easily. Woody peat is a bit over-the-top, and beeriness is kinda hidden, but it’s a bias that works.
3.6Tap. Clear dark amber color. Small size, beige head, stays. Malty, smoked, woody, bit rubbery, whiskey, peat in aroma. Peat, malty, alcohol, caramel, woody and smoked in taste. Peated whiskey in aftertaste. Pleasant in mouth. Solid brew.

3.4From tap. Pours clear orange with a small white head. Aroma is wooden, herbal. Dense peated and dark malty. Fruity and wooden. Dry and slight herbal dry bitter finish.

From tap. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is minerals and solid hoppy. Dry, minerals. Dark toasted and sweet. Over hoppy. Minerals and warming alchol finish.
3.3Bottle. Golden body with white fast disappearing head. Aroma is Malty honey with alcohol add some sweet over ripe fruits and peat. Taste is malts whisky alcohol wood some fruits. Aftertaste is alcohol with malty sweetness and hints of wooden dryness. To alcoholic for my taste.
3.4Head gone quickly, clear, gold-amber. Alcohol, whiskey, smoky, malty. Quite pleasant. Some bitterness but not too strong. Alcohol again. A bit too much of it. Tastes a bit stronger than it actually is.

3.2Tap at Beer Hunters. Clear amber color, small white head. Strong peaty islay nose. Medium-bodied. Peaty, alcoholic, sweetish malty flavour. Whiskey overdose over pale malty flavours.
3.5Clear amber, thin head. Just smells of whisky! Taste has fruit, some hop.... and whisky. The whisky really comes through. Lovely but a third is enough.
3.9On tap at Brewdog Barcelona. Amber colour without head. Peat and smoked aroma. Peat, earth, salt, slightly sweet, fruit taste. Medium to full body. Nice.
2.1A little bit too far out there for me. Very spicy like mezcal or mastika. Hard to get past that to the hops (fruity and bitter) and a solid malt. Back to beers I can drink ...
3.9Draft - Mezcal spiciness, peat and barrel notes. Clear gold with almost no head. Raw woody notes, tons of peat and a long finish. Intense but yet the heat is non existent and a pleasant finish. Complex and maybe confused but taste is long and smooth. A nice if odd sipper.
3.8Third in brewdog shoreditch. I like this. Very evocative of a smoky peaty single malt. Also has raisin notes. Good stuff.
3.3Bottle: Aroma is whiskey, alcohol, smoked, some sweetness. Folden color, white head. Flavor is medium sweet, quite alcoholic, sharp, smoky bitterness. OK but too alcoholic.
3.6Keg at BrewDog Shoreditch. Light tawny brown, clear, very little carbonation. Aroma of tequila, cherry caramel, whisky sour, tangerine peel. Strong sweet alcoholic taste with a wonderfully thick oily palate. This isn’t one of my favourite BD beers but it’s certainly complex and has a hell of a lot going for it.
3.4Bottle. Pours golden with an off-white head. Aroma ash, peat , malt, caramel and fruitiness. Flavor is sweet and malty with some ash, peat an warming alcohol. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.6Opaque golden yellow, off-white lasting, lacing foam head. Smokey aroma and taste, the Speyside effect. Salty, bitterness, fruit tones. Nice, but heavy. (Arnhem 201702)
3.8Clear dark yellow to light copper color with small white head. Aroma of whisky, smoke, fruity. Full body, low carbonation, warming alcohol. Sweet, smoky flavor. Nice winter warmer.
3.3Clear amber body with small off-white head. Aroma is - wow, didn’t expect that even after reading what this is made from. Fist smoked scotch whiskey, wooden barrel notes, smoked chips, moss, than some wet herbs, mezcal, agave, lots of caramel. Tastes like cactus syrup with strong alcohol kick, smoke, barrel and whiskey, pretty sweet. Medium body, creamy, completely flat carbonation. At first i was like "yuck, what is this", but it’s getting better as you drink more. Still, one of the worst expensive beers I had. //bottle and tap at Craft Room
