BrewDog Barrel Aged Albino Squid Assassin

BrewDog Barrel Aged Albino Squid Assassin

A warped version of Albino Squid Assassin, this super exclusive small batch beer sees us amp up the rye character to the max.

This red rye IPA has spent six months sequestered in rye whiskey barrels, drawing incredible toasty, spicy and oaky flavours from the wood.

The hops have softened and morphed from pithy citrus to ripe autumn fruit, while the malt base has picked up cinder toffee and cinnamon. An incredibly deep and complex IPA.

3.7 Tap @ Brewdog Tallinn. Pours amber, relatively clear copper with some white bubbles on the top. Nose has caramel, some faded hops (but you can feel there was quite a lot of them). Hop jam character which I have felt also before with barrel aged IPA's. Spicy taste, barrel booze is coming through, some serious bitterness going through and through. Sipper, some resins and hop oils lingering in the bitter finish,

4.1 Bottle from BrewDog online store. Indeed a great Rye IPA. The basic version was great but BA is tiny little bit better and presenting extra softening vanilla touch. Great.

3.9 On tap at Craft Beer Helsinki pouring dark brown color. Aroma of malts, whiskey, rye bread, syrup, alcohol. Sweet malty taste. A tad below full body but quite heavy, sweet whiskey taste and aftertaste. Great stuff.

3.8 Tap @ Brewdog Tampere. Pours clear copper color with a small off-white head. Sweet caramel on the nose, ripe fruits and hints of syrup, subtle vanilla tones and toasted malts. Flavor is also caramel malty, some harsh dry bitterness probably from the barreling, woody tones as well, again hints of vanilla on the lingering finish. Palate wasn't as soft as I would have liked, the aroma was nice though. 4425
