BrewDog Black Hammer

BrewDog Black Hammer

Jack Hammer has been single handedly ripping it up for quite some time. Now this IPA, has spawned four hammer head off-springs. Black Hammer is the second of our super-charge hyped up hybrids.

Dark malt and American hops unite to bring a new age of bitterness. Pithy grapefruit and resin combine with a dark chocolate and roasty coffee hit to deliver a resonating bitterness that goes beyond IBUs.

4.0 KØLF 021216. Dark brown color with a beige head. Aroma is pine, roasted malt, coffee. Flavor is pine, roasted malt, fruit, chocolate, coffee. Medium body. Very nice beer.
4.6 Had the beer during the 2016 Kompaan Bloedbroeder festival. The looks are amazing. Pitch black on the naked eye, like a black IPA should be. In strong light the beer has a nice dark ruby glow. On top there is a nice small layer of almond coloured foam, that collapses quickly to leave next to nothing. The smell is amazing. It is a real IPA smell. There are lovely strong bitter, slightly sour and a bit sweet hop aromas, giving hints of citrus fruits, especially grapefruit and zest, and some aroma’s of passion fruit. It again reminds me of Irish pale ales. But, besides the lovely tropical fruits I also smell some dark aroma’s of roasted barley, giving the beer a rough edge. The balance is good. The taste is lovely. The hops are exactly the same as in the smell. There is also a lovely touch of roasted barley. There also are some clear alcohol aromas. There also is a minimal touch of something that reminds me of some oakyness. Lovely balance. The palate is nice, with a high carbonation. Lovely beer.
3.6 330ml can from House of Belgium, Xiamen. Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of malt, chocolate and hops. Intense mouthfeel. Bitter finish.
3.7 Can 330 ml / Amstein - St-Légier (CH). Dark beer with a beige head and numerous laces. Toasted aromas, grapefruit, resin, coffee-choc, tropical fruits, in brief, with the full panoply of US hops. That we find to the taste, intense and powerful. Coffee, dark choc, hoppy perfumes of citrus, tropical fruits, resin, herbs and so on. It’s rough with a very dry finale, roasted and long. Good beer of this brewery become industrial but continues to brew some interesting beers.

4.1 33cl bottle. Pours dark reddish brown colour with a huge most good lasting tan head. Aroma of intense bitter green hops, citrus, spruce and dark roasted malt. Taste of intense dark roasted malt, coffe, intense bitter hops. citrus, spruce, long long bitter finish, wow!
4.1 Can at Brewdo Brussels. Nearly opaque nearly black color. Aroma oma of pine needles dipped in coffee. Taste is burnt espresso and pine needles. A proper black IPA.
S: Bitterzoet. Veel drop, geroosterde mout en grassige toetsen. M: Stevige body met medium carbonatie.
3.8 Can. Pours jet black with medium head. Aroma is pine, resiny, citrusy and roasty. The taste follows the aroma with noticeable impression of sunflower seeds in the aftertaste. The beer has a dry mouthfeel and it’s very easy drinking. Great black ipa.
3.8 Can at home, black beer, medium head. Aroma is roasted, citrus, hops, coffee, malt. Taste is the same, bitter dry, nice one.
3.4 Can from Beers of Europe [170117] Black, tan edges, frothy beige head Aroma of piney hops, grapefuit zest, dark roast Taste of roasted dark malts, bitter pine hops, some grapefruit zest, getting burnt toast, bitter coffee roast, no subtlety here Palate - Soft carb, medium to full body, very bitter throughout, very bitter zest, too aggressive almost rough tbh. Finish is very dry, very bitter Overall - Aggressive BIPA, I prefer some sweet dark malts in there. This is over rough, but still some good flavours in there
4.1 0.33 l can from Pivoteka, Zagreb. Shared with Višnja 666 and Nikola. Black, creamy off-white to tan head. Medium hopped, mint, herbal, toasty. Very nice balance, medium to high bitterness, some roasty flavors. Medium body, soft carbonation, alcohol hidden, hoppy finish. Very soft and nice for a DIBLA!

3.8 Can from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is fruity hops, citrus, roasted malt, pine resin, touch of chocolate, grapefruit. Flavour is moderate sweet with a hoppy bitter finish. Body is medium and smooth. Very fruity and piney with a good roasty malt backbone, smooth body, very nice BIPA.
3.6 Can. Dark brown with a light tan head that fades to a cm but then is never less. Aroma is more tropical than citrus fruit and with briocheish chocolate it smells a little sickly. Some grapefruit and coffee are trying to hold it in check. And, since it turns out not to be that sweet, it all works: medium bodied and clean with the citrus cutting through fin and the tropical fruit being more lychee than guava. A little pine too at the firmly bitter finish. Good but not particularly distinctive. Is there enough going on for >7%?
4.1 Almost black color. Excellent flavor: juicy tropical fruits, passion fruit, peach, mango. Taste: citrus, a little hay, fruit, good hop bitterness.
4.1 Sötétbarna szín, barna habbal a tetején. Illatában a pörkölt maláta, némi csokoládé egy egy icipici grapefruit aroma keveredik. Izében elsősorban a pörköltség, csokoládé játssza a főszerepet némi gyümölcsösséggel párosulva. Nagyon jó sör. Most sem csalódtam ebben a főzdében.
4.0 Can: very dark brown colour, brownish head. Aroma is roasted malt, some chocolate, resin, zest and grapefruite hops. Flavor is roastiness, caramel, resin, chocolate, grapefruit. Very nice, tasty brew.
3.7 0.33 can @ home Very strong pines alongside dark malts in the aroma. Taste is similar, but only slightly bitter on account of some dough-like flavors. A pleasant, unimposing body and carbonation. Drinkable.
5.0 Can - saw this and thought: any variation spawned from the famous Jack has gotta be good... and yes, it’s not just good it’s bloody marvellous - would love them to put chili in this...!!
3.7 On tap @ Brewdog Barcelona. Deep brown with small beige head. Fruity hops and roasted malts aroma. Taste follows the same nice hop-malt dialogue: chocolate, pine resin, moist grass. Medium body, medium carbonation. Bitter, hoppy finish.
4.0 Can from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi) online shop. Dark roast nose, very fruity, with light licorice notes, citrus peel, and light chocolate. Dark translucent brown color. Flavors of bitter chocolate, along with some ash or char, a bit of pepper, piney hop, and a smooth but quite bitter finish. Medium body (edging toward full -- or perhaps that’s the hop texture). But ... 200IBU ... really? Very tasty stuff.
4.0 0.33l can. Pitch black with off-white head. Aroma is piney with caramel. Taste has some citrus, roast and long lasting bitter finish. Really nice.
3.8 33cl can. Appeance: A pitch black with a small tanned head. Aroma: crisp fruity hops, pine, dark malts, caramel hints. Taste: . Citrus fruit hops, some tropical tones, pine, and roasted malts. lingering bitterness. Fruity bitter finish. medium body, smooth texture, average carbonation. Solid Black IPA..
3.9 from Amstein, canned - very dark brown beer under a little beige foam; nice lace; malty and toasted aroma with notes of prunes and marzipan; full-bodied, assertive and very bitter; dry and long hoppy finish of licorice, rose hip and prunes
