A recipe we originally devised to celebrate opening BrewDog Brixton in the city that gave birth to the Porter style. Unfortunately the deal for the site fell through at the last minute, but we still wanted to make the beer. Brixton Porter is a delightfully decadent yet eminently drinkable dark beer.
Malts – Extra pale, Dark crystal, Roast barley, black
3.3Bottle a black colored beer with a beige head aroma malts chocolate spicy fruits dried fruits and hops flavor malts chocolate spicy coffee and hops
3.4Pours black with a decent, tan and long lasting head. Nice aroma of cocoa, dark chocolate, some caramel. The taste, however, has some problems to keep up. Chocolate is still present, some caramel as well but on a very low level and the bitterness shows up a bit too fast and draws all the attention. No alcohol detected which is a surprise - all my previous experiences with Brew Dog were always spoiled by this factor. The beer is good enough to enjoy.
3.7Bottle - Black colour with small but dense creamy tan head, good retention and lacing. Lot of roasted malts on the nose with coffee, chocolate, slight caramel. Taste is mostly dry with intense chocolate and coffee notes. medium body and carbonation, smooth texture, dry roasty finish. Well balanced, decent porter.
3.4Bottle @ deTolly, Tartu. Pours deep dark brown with brownish head. Aroma is malty, roasted, coffee, weak peas. Taste is slightly bitter, roasted, coffee, weak chocolate. Medium body. Roasted bitter finish. Ok Porter.
3.6Io direi che è davvero una porter fatta come si deve, molto cioccolatosa e caffettosa. ottima beva, e molto morbida al palato.
4.0W szkle czarne, nieprzejrzyste, z bardzo ładną, równą, beżową pianą. W aromacie przeważa kawa, dalej mamy czekoladę i delikatne nuty palone. W smaku powyższe nuty występują w bardziej wyrównanych proporcjach i one tak naprawdę kształtują to piwo. Bardzo aksamitny, delikatny, przyjemny porter. BrewDog znów stanął na wysokości zadania!
3.7From bottle. Pours black with medium, brown head. Coffee, roastiness, plum, some alcohol, medium body, low carbonation.
3.8Nez: Café, chocolat
Bouche: Café, chocolat, vanille
Une légère longueur sur le grillé.
C’est simple mais c’est très bon.
3.8From 330 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown to black with a few brown highlights and a rocky cream head. Aromas of coffee, raisins, orange zest and stewed pears. Taste starts off with dark fruit before a rich coffee note pushes through, followed up by a light chocolate note. Medium bodied as I think a porter should be. Lingering finish with a distinct coffe aftertaste. Enjoyed this one a lot.
3.0Aroma: Chocolate with orange filling, coffee, some alcohol with warming. Like it, apart from the alcohol. Appearance: Black with ruby reflections, head quite low, dense, nice lacing. Taste: Roastiness, medium grassy bitterness, alcohol, nothing happens here. Palate: Finish is bitter, body is medium low.
3.5Bottle from Beer Cartel 110915. This is quite a decent porter with a good strong body and some burnt slightly bitter flavours. Full in the mouth.
3.7Bottle from Uba & Humal, Tallinn. Black color with tanned head. Nose has nice roasty, coffee and some chocolate. Smooth palate, roasty notes, some hops, coffee. Very balanced and tasty.
3.0Bottle. Quite a nice porter. The taste is not that strong but there are clear chocolate flavours there.
3.9From a 330ml bottle on 28/8/2015. Pours a deep drown with a small tan head. Has a light aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and a touch of caramel. The flavour is quite robust, with lots of roasted malt, dark chocolate, nuts and the barest hint of dark fruit. It finishes with a quite sharp hoppy bitterness. Rich and full bodied with soft carbonation. A very good porter.
3.8Black with medium beige head. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malts and cherries. Taste gets more roasted, with some coffee, vanilla, before the black hops take over. Light bodied but very creamily smooth. A good porter.
4.2Black, tan head, lovely aroma of dark chocolate and cherries. Less berry character on the flavor, but still the cocoa, liquorice, and roasted malts. Softly salted, a roasted bitterness to nicely balance the sweetness, it has a medium body and a lovely silky feel. Pretty much what I expect from a porter.
3.9Pours dark brown with thin beige head. Nice chocolatey aroma, coffee and herbs too. Taste of toasted malts, sweet and light bitter, without a long bitter finish. Balanced, light carbonation, easy drinking. Very enjoyable.
4.0Pours black with a tan head.
Nose shows roasted malt, soft liquorice and a hint of cocoa.
Flavours include a fair bit of dry roast with further hints of cocoa and liquorice. Understated and very well-made.
Low carbonation, perfect.
3.40.33 l bottle from Patrick’s Irish pub, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Opaque dark brown with small tan head. Chocolate and coffee, caramel, roasty, dry. Medium body. Very roasty character. Good.
3.0BOTTLE. Black pour with small tan head.. Dark malty nose with a powdery chalk vibe??.. Standard dark malt with a good creamy texture.. Sourced Fire Station
3.4Aroma: Light coffee
Appearance: Thin creamy head and dark colour
Taste: Light sour, malts like chocolate
Palate: Medium light body, slick texture, soft carbonation, and subtle finish like chocolate
Overall: Very dirinkable porter
3.833 cl bottle@home.
Appearance: clear dark ruby brown with fast shrinking beige head.
Aroma: dark roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, caramel, toffee.
Taste: medium bitter.
Palate: smooth, lasting medium bitter body, low carbonation.
Overall: very nice.
3.6Bottle, 10C. Black with a light tan head that ends up a fat coat. Aroma of licorice, mocha, roasted barley, some floaty floral notes. Smells like a bigger beer than it is. Medium light body, lowish carbonation. A real breadth of flavours here - sweet dark sugars, mocha, roasted barley (but not too much), a little deeper charred flavour, touches of fruit. Fairly but discreetly bitter at the finish. Good stuff.
4.0Обожаю такие корочные, древесные портеры, от которых потом настоящий мужицкий вкус.
2.2330 ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.
Looks: Clear deep pitch black colour; Less than one-quarter finger head and residual soapy beige foam which fades in 20 seconds; Good sticky lacing with near zero carbonation.
Aroma: Very low-fi and unimpressive dark malt, with fair roastyness, toffee, coffee, cream, sugar and yeast.
Taste: Close to light sweet dark malt, with very strong roastyness, nuts, strong burnt toast, strong black coffee, thin molasses notes, earth, yeast, strong lemon, very strong bitter hops and very sharp grass.
Body: Light body. Thin and watery palate.
Mouth Feel: Fair dark maltyness in a very thin body. Very strongly roasted with subdued nuts but lots of burnt toast and sour black coffee. No chocolate nor cream low cream, light earth and sweet notes only. Strong lemon bitter hops to round. One dimensional!
Hoppiness: Almost no hop aroma. Lots of strong lemon and sharp grass in taste. Bitterness is strong for a lasting, quite high astringent roasty finish.
After Taste: Quite dry; Sour coffee and bitter to mouth.
Comments: Thought this one would be better than the Alice Porter I had yesterday but no - aroma went AWOL, taste is one-way coffee ground sourness and bitterness. The worst of all being its very thin and watery body, even an average Schwarzbier is better than this. No thanks!
3.5Pours dark brown haze colour with light brown head. Aroma without notice of an alcohol, prevailing notes of roasted barley, coffee and dark chocolate.
Similar is flavor: without notice of an alcohol, prevails notes of coffee, dark chocolate. Malt sweetness is medium, hop bitterness also.
finish is somehow watery.
3.5Bottle. Black body with a beige head. Licorice aroma with earthy hops and roast. Taste of coffee with chocolate, robust fruity bitterness at the end. A solid porter.
3.3Bottle. Coffee and dark chocolate aroma, not very strong. Pitch black with amber reflexes in colour. Very coffee-acidic in taste and only that. A good porter whatsoever but nothing special.
