BrewDog Christmas Porter

BrewDog Christmas Porter

A re-worked Alice Porter especially for Christmas. With orange zest, cacao and a tiny bit of chilli.

The perfect beer for Turkey, The Queen’s Speech, boring relativies and boozed up Pictionary.

Merry Christmas.

3.7 tuoksussa jonkinlaista mausteisuutta mikä peittää kaiken muun alleen. maku onkin sitten normaalimpaa porter linjaa. chilikö se jälkimaussa polttelee? etiketissä siitä maininta ja jälkimaku on selkeästi poltteleva. periaatteessa mausteet ja chili toimii mutta jotenkin vaisuksi jää silti. runko on liian kevyt.
4.2 roasty, coffee, smoke, black, frothy, white foam, medium bitterness, full body, creamy, average carbonation, long finish,
3.6 Bottled. Reddish deep dark brown body, neverending finger thick tan head. Spicy and mild roasty nose. The aroma has chocolate and caramel underpainted by distinct spices, some hops and alcohol working in the background. Creamy mouthfeel. Sweetbitter and somewhat tannic finish with dark chocolate, hints of pepper and gently warming alcohol. Interesting.
3.5 0,33 l bottle, Csakajósör, Budapest. Poured black with a medium tan-beige head. Aroma of cocoa and dark chocolate, ash, liquerice. Medium bodied one with cocoa, caramel and roasted grains, light pepper in the aftertaste.
3.3 330ml bottle. Pours very dark brown color. Medium tan head, disappears very quickly. Looks bit fizzy. Sweet, malts, roast, faint clove in aroma. Chocolate, some roast, sweet (even tempted to say caramel, but I won’t), malts in flavor. Surprisingly weak aftertaste.
3.1 330ml bottle (Drink Baar, Tallinn) Bit of a weird aroma. We’ve had sometghing like it before, but I can’t place it. There’s a bit of OK roast there, but the weird harshness smothers that a bit. In fact the roast bedcomes more charcoaly and oily, and even acidic after a while. Definitelt harsh. Looks pretty OK, though, very deep red, brief tan head settles to a ring. I’ve got it - some of the oily burntness is like Koff Porter, but that is way nicer, and has no harshness. Slight fizziness to the fullish palate. Odd buttery retronasals.Very rich roast, again, reminds me of Koff Porter in some ways. Does have more hops though, and isn’t quite as oily, but the butter’s very salty. So has potential, but is missing out on the balance, and suffering greatly from the Lurpak. Finish quite burnt, very dry and long. Certainly passable, better than most other brewdogs we’ve had this year.
3.1 Chocolate and hints of spice. Pours quite thin, with a tan head that reduces, but not completely, Tastes like Alice Porter, but with a bit more smoke to it. Couldn’t detect any Festive Spices or chilli, but there is some chocolate there. Small amount of bitterness which is down to the malts than the hops. Not bad, but nothing special.
3.2 Tasted from the bottle @The Sheffield Tap, on 05/11/2012. Pours in brown-to-black color, with an ok beige head. Aroma is quite faint. Taste is medium-bodied, which is surprising for 6,2%. Very acidic, roasted malts are almost absent. Pretty sweet finish upfront, then having a long bitter&hot spicy part. Neutral.
3.4 Bottle. Dark brown/black body, red hue, big light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, licorice, lightly spiced. Taste is malty with mocca and coffee, again low spiced. I’d not expect Brewdog to be so careful with the spicing, but it suits the beer well. Medium body, good bittersweet palate, aftertaste of mocca and malt, with some hops staying a while. A good christmas beer this is.
3.7 Bottle from Vino, Morningside Bottle BBE 23/11/12 Batch 001 Very dark brown, forthy tan head, some lacing, dissipates to thin head. Nose of roasted malts, rich dark caramel malts, some chocolate, bit of chilli on the nose, cocoa. Taste is of quite rich smooth roasted malts, deep dark malts, plain chocolate, not that complex but good flavour, tiny hint of chilli, very slight spice. Palate - medum carb and body, smooth, soft roast with quite sweet dark chocolate malts. Finish as main flavour, bit dry, perhaps a little dull, only noticed a tiny bit of heat after finishing the bottle Overall - Quite tasty malts in here and cocoa, very little chilli and spices though, Quite an old bottle so might have mellowed out
3.7 33 cl bottle at Bishops Arms, Falun, called "BrewDog Winter Porter". Sampled on August 17, 2012, BBE 15.09.12 Cocoa, chocolate, smooth, malty, grainy, sweet, spicy, orange peel, alcohol scent. Clear dark reddish brown color, small tan head. Malty, grainy, dry, coffee taste. Grainy, metallic, hints of raissin, dry aftertaste. Full fairly smooth mouthfeel. Medium high bitterness.
3.1 Keg at Brew Dog Camden (Dec ’11). Pours very dark brown to black in colour with a finger or so’s head. Aroma - was that of malt, slightly burnt but not greatly so, toffee/chocolate, herbs. Flavour - Slightly smoked/burnt, spiced taste with some herb flavouring, less chocolatey than in the smell. Didn’t enjoy the mouthfeel - a bit too thin.
3.3 Bottle from cervezalandia. Dark appearance, with touches of brown and red. High carbonation. Medium bitterness and dryness. Coffee, chocolate and orange aroma.
2.9 Pours black with a begie head. Typical flavors and aroma for the style. Brewdog can do better.
3.2 (Bottle). Spicy and slightly tart fragrance with notes of figs, raisins, roasted malt and chocolate. The taste is quite thin, watery and slightly metallic with flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and spices. The aftertaste has a very light bitterness with a vaguely warm hue of chili. Not a bad beer, but a clear disappointment on the grounds that it is brewed by BrewDog. I was expecting me more!
3.5 3 finger brown-beige head that sinks to 1/2 finger, black body with at tint of red. Nose: Charcuterie, chocolate, licorice and smoked notes. Aroma: Chocolate, charcuterie, licorice, chili, a slight hint of ash and soy-sauce. Quite thin body, with little carbonation. Semi-long ending with some bitterness.
3.6 Bottle. Dark brown with a small head.Slightly spicey but not as complex as some of their beers. Nearly but not quite. Still worth trying though.
2.4 330 ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Sentrum Tromsø shared by Rune at Beer session XVIII 030112. Very christmassy bottle design in typical Brew Dog style. Almost black body with beige head and dotted lacing. Aroma at first resembles the well known and well liked one typical of Brew Dog beers with an added Xmas twist but sharp hints of yeast conspire to weaken the intended cocoa impression. Flavour does not match aroma well and is metallic and almost blood-like as well as more sour than bitter even if there are some hints of spices and roasted malts. Feels dry but watered like wetted paper in the mouth. Especially dissappointing considering the normal standard of the brewer.
3.7 Bottle from Appellation Wines. Treacle coffee malt aroma. Very dark brown colour, reasonable head. Chocolate coffee malt flavour. Smooth with bitter sweet aftertaste.
3.4 33cl bottle. Dark brown, almost black colour without head .Aroma has toasty malts notes and slightly smoky. Flavour is toasty, malty, slightly ash and chilly notes. The final has a decent bitterness with a moderate duration and an aftertaste mild coffee. Carbonation is medium. Body is medium. Texture is oily.
3.1 Bottle shared at Bishops Arms Avenyn. Pours black with a bubbly tan head. Aroma of raisins, dark fruit and spice. Flavour of sweet ripe fruit, raisins and spice with a slight pepper kick in the finish.
3.2 Bottle. A black colour with a small off-white head. An aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. The taste is medium sweet and light bitter. A medium body.
3.6 Bottle. amber colour with a beige head. Aroma is spices, coffee, roasted malt, hop. Flavour is spices, coffee, roasted malt, hop, orange, licorice, chocolate. Medium to full body. Nice beer.
3.2 Botella de 330ml. Copa Stem. Saboreada en dic´11. Color caoba y tinte cobre oscuro a contraluz. 330ml bottle. Stem glass. Enjoyed on dec´11. Mahogany in color, dark copper to the light. Large bubbled, quickly dissipated head. Some thin rings. Roasted malts & green wood to the nose, herbal notes. Flavors include dry puckering bitterness, black coffee, hints of tobacco & peppery touch. Medium body, high carbonation. Sharp hoppy dry finish. Coffee on the aftertaste.
3.6 A really nice porter and perfect for christmas food. A lot of nice spices as well.
3.1 Bottled 330ml (Petalax, BB 09/2012) Deep brown color, steady beige head. Aroma has toasted malts, some earth and tartness, chocolate. Medium-bodied. Toasted malty, a bit earthy cellary, hints of soya sauce and then black chocolate. There is some light fruity chili in the finish. Not the most "common" Brewdog.
3.5 Bottled (thanks omhper!). Quite much black colour, mediumsized brown fluffy head. Aroma is mild toffee, caramel, some slight ashes and roast and dark dry fruits. Flavour is leather, some liquorice, mild salty and ashy notes as well as some toffee. Pleasant Porter, which probably suits some heavy meatdishes very well.
2.8 Black with a red tint and a thick frothy tan head. Smell of light roast and a faint hint of chilli. Almost no smell. Medium frothy body and some graininess from the carbonation. Taste of rasin, licorish, roast and coffee with slight spiciness on finish. Sort of bland compared to th other Brewdogs. Rather a simple porter with some spicy lingering hints.
3.2 Black of color with a brown head. A nice aroma of chocolate, spice and roasted malt. A flavor of roasted malt, spice, chocolate and dry finish.
