BrewDog Dead Metaphor

BrewDog Dead Metaphor

keg & bottled, special

Scottish Chocolate Breakfast Stout - brewed with Brazilian Sertão coffee, Venezuelan cacao and (for the Scottish element) oatmeal. Created and brewed by beer writers Rob Derbyshire (from Hopzine) and Richard Taylor (from the BeerCast), Dead Metaphor refers to a lot of the nomenclature and buzz words/phrases that are bandied about in modern beer writing - and has been designed to get the synapses firing when writing deadlines approach. This beer should be sipped for instant inspiration. Label design by Drew Millward.

4.0 Bottle at home from Blackrock Cellar. Pout deep black with tan head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, lactose, toast, bit of leather. Flavour is burnt toast, milk chocolate, lactose. Medium dry roast coffee finish. Creamy mouhtfeel with full body. Very nice
3.7 Bottle 0.33L. Dark brown body with average, frothy, light-brown head, mostly lasting with some nice lacing. Moderate-to-heavy malty (roasted, caramel) aroma with notes of coffee, chocolate, light red fruits and licorice. Moderate bitter and sweet flavour; some dark chocolate in the finish. 3.5 Bottle. Aromas of caramel, chocolate, coffee, but very delicate. Black with brown medium head. Taste is pleasantly chocolate-ish and coffe-ish, with very delicate bitterness and lightly soury, roasty finish.
3.5 Bottle at home, 21st December 14. Mocha on the aroma, taste is chocolate, and coffee, slight vanilla. Palate slightly thin, and a little too much carbonation. Not bad
3.7 330 ml bottle at home. Black color with beige brown frothy-creamy head. Aroma is roasted malty, cocoa and chocolate. Taste is sweet and heavy bitter the same like the aroma, with chocolate and cocoa to be the dominant flavors, coffee too. almost medium body, oily, soft carbonation, nice bitter chocolate aftertaste.
3.5 Transferring some earlier reviews from my blog to RB. Märts 2014, City Beverage, London. Batch 018. Kuidagi nurgeline jook.
3.8 33cl bottle @La Internacional, Oviedo. 12-07-2014. In short: viscous stout. Pours black with little tan head. Short head retention, poor lacing. Coffee, liquorice, roasted malt aromas. Medium body, soft carbonation, viscous texture. Taste is smooth, coffee, roasty, some liquor notes. Alcohol noticeable. Quite enjoyable.
4.5 33cl bottle @ home from Csak a Jó Sör, Budapest. Body is nearly black, Head is big, rocky, brown, mostly lasting, excellent lacing. Nose is roasty, chocolate and dried frutis, Aroma is tons of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, light licorice, honey, hint of alcohol. Taste is light to medium sweet, heavy roasty bitter. Finish is long lasting dark chocolate, some hops. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Excellent dessert beer, not too heavy, very delicious.

3.7 Lots of chcolate and coffee notes. Pitch black color smooth. Easy drinking nice beer
3.5 Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, coffee. Taste follow suit closely, with decent bitterness.
3.2 Pours black with a middle to low head. Aroma: a lot of chocolate, coffee and some roasted malt. One can also smell lactose. Taste: dark chocolate, coffee, some hoppy bitterness in the finish (not too extreme), with a slight sweet touch from lactose. A solid stout, but nothing more.
3.6 Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Malty aroma with chocolate notes. Starts strong-malty, not too roasty, chocolate notes. Light earthy. Finish warming-malty. Aftertaste with chocolate notes. Nice!
3.7 Bottle at home. The colour is black with a medium, light brown, creamy head. Roasted aroma with coffee, dark chocolate, ash, licorice, leather, soy sauce and forest floor. The flavour is more roasted with coffee beans, ash and very dark chocolate. Has a rich and silky mouth feel, and a medium bitterness. A well-roasted and pleasant stout.
3.6 Butelka 0.33L. Wygląd: Czarne, nieprzejrzyste. Piana obfita, beżowa, drobno i średniopęcherzykowa, głośno syczy i opada do 3mm. Minimalny lacing. Aromat: Aromat porterowy, czekolada, lukrecja, ciemne pieczywo, raczej przypiekane, karmelowe słodowe niż palone aromaty, brązowy cukier, likier czekoladowo-kawowy. Smak: Przypalona skórka ciemnego chleba, ciemna czekolada, kawa, lekki alkohol.
3.5 On tap at Jekyll, may 2nd 2104. Close to black in body with a small tanned head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, tar. Taste is lightly sweet with chocolate, malt, also salt licorice, subtle fruity hops. Short roasty and sweet finish.
3.5 Bottle with best before date 17/07/15. Great label design. Pitch black with one-inch coffee brown foamy head which dissipates after roughly 5 mins. Aroma is dominated by chocolate with subtle coffee hints. Taste is of sweet chocolate, light coffee bitterness and slightly boozy once it is fully warmed up. Medium carbonation.
Suave suave y fresco amargo final ligeramente herbáceo. Bastante buena, para repetir sin duda.
3.0 Abaixo do nível BrewDog Brewed By BeerCast Rich and Hopzine Rob Rob and Rich have named the beer Dead Metaphor, after a lot of the nomenclature and meaningless buzz words and phrases that are bandied about in the world of beer writing. T
3.5 Not nearly as heavy or sweet as I was expecting, pretty easy to drink, bitterness coming more from coffee and chocolate.
2.5 Inte det bästa ifrån Skottland. Men det säger ju inte så himla mycket kanske. Tror jag är tyst nu
3.8 Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home Pours almost pitch black with a thick brown head. Smell of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and a smallhint of burnt malts. Medium sweet, instant there is some aromatic coffee flavor followed by cocoa, hints of vanilla and roasted malts. Ends with a moderate to medium bitter finish. Very nice stout. Powerful coffee flavor with nice blend of vanilla and cocoa.
3.7 Bottle Black colour with medium off-beige head.Aroma is smooth creamy of chocolate and coffee nice pleasant with smooth mouthfeels and hint of caramel and malt.
3.8 Bouteille:Almost black, big loose off-white head - that slowly collapses; moderate to solid dryish toasty-ashy nose, completed by caramel and dried fruits; medium bodied and really soft, moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour; lingering finish with flavours of dark fried fruits, roasted malt and some hops, bitter aftertaste. Very well rounded and tasty stuff…
3.8 330ml Bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (£4.00 approx.): Roasted malts & rich, dark chocolate with a solid coffee aroma & earthy notes. There’s a little sweetness & lactose but the smell is pretty much as you’d expect from a stout. Black with a thick & creamy, light brown head about 2.5cm tall that settles to a thick lacing. Dark chocolate & sweetness with some coffee but the chocolate seems more pronounced. A few earthy malts & touches of bitterness with a definite milky taste The taste was a good, well rounded one & it went down well. Medium bodied, soft carbonation with a semi-sweet mouthfeel & a dry, clean finish that is incredibly smooth going down. Quite a good stout from Brewdog, it had a good balance and was very easy going down. Not much (if any) oatmeal, the beer almost tasted like a sweet stout at times. A good beer but not much out of the ordinary and not a classic.
3.8 Appearance: Black color with a creamy beige head. Ok lacing. Aroma: Mild roasted malt, coffee and some chocolate. Palate: Medium body. Balanced mild sweet and an ok bitterness. Soft carbonation. Creamy texture. Taste: Mild chocolate, bready, coffee and roasty. Overall impression: A really pleasant, tasty and fresh stout. Highly recommendable. Personal stats: Bottle as BrewDog Scottish Chocolate Breakfast Stout at Førtito Bar & Bowling in Sarpsborg, Norway.
