Hinterland is part of our small batch series, and is a 9% oatmeal milk stout with vanilla pods and cocoa. A eulogy to the depths of the imagination and what dwells therein, hinterland is typified by the mythical jackalope, as stunningly depicted by Johanna Basford. Look for an initial release soon, with the rest barrel-aged to take on even more complexity of flavour. This is shaping up to be something truly special.

3.8Keg Third of a Pint at BrewDog, Clerkenwell, London in Jan 2016 - Black in colour. Small beige head. Good lacing. Very Malty; roasty malts, oaty, chocolate, coffee, vanilla. Bit spicy. Fruity; dark fruits. Warming alcohol. Vanilla quite prominent. Bittersweet roast vanilla coffee and chocolate malty throughout. Good Oatmeal Impy Stout! (2016-01-16)
3.8Sample at Borefts 2016. Poured a clear dark brown with a round bubbly tan head. The aroma is rich roasty malt, red berry fruit, alcohol. The flavour is strong sweet with a rich oily sweet malt fruity alcoholic palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation and an oily mouthfeel.
4.2Elegant-sinister packaging snobbishly refusing to say what it actually is, maybe because the beer is so straightforward in telling it. Sweet yet remarkably dry in its finish, hints of vanilla bean, a bit of cocoa powder, slightly bitter espresso and dark chocolate notes with some herbal and vermouth aspects balancing out the lactose sweetness. Another remarkable beer by Brewdog,
3.0Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Strasznie nieułożony alkohol i mało ciała. Spod alkoholu wychodzi fajna czekolada.
3.8Keg tap at BrewDog Shepherds Bush. Darkest black with a bit of small tan head. Vanilla fudge and instant coffee aroma. Sweet milky taste laden with notes of vanilla extract and beef tea. Gum numbing alcohol in the finish with caramel flavours. Bit too sweet for an impy in my opinion. But that’s being picky. It’s bloody gorgeous.
4.3Bottle at my brother’s place. Pours completely inky black with a tiny head which dissipates almost immediately. Aroma is not very pronounced, some dark malts and hops and some spiciness but not a lot of aroma all in all. Mouthfeel is oily and rather thick, spicy and peppery. Flavour: Dark malts are very present, extremely creamy, and very complex. The beer is distinctly spicy for an oatmeal/milk stout, and has very nice notes of hops. Roasty flavours, especially coffee are quite evident. Finish is long and creamy, coffee is intense, roasty and chocolatey and some spice. Awesome beer!
4.1Piwo czarne, nieprzejrzyste.
4.1Bottle at home split with Sarah. Picked up from Brewdog online. A jet black oily pour with a rich dark tan head that fades. Aroma is rich dark choc, toasted coconut vanilla, sun cream, raspberry and blackberry. Palate is full and velvety, creamy, woody, airy carboantion stops it from being cloying. Flavour is composed of creamy smooth roasted malts, rich dark chocolate, sweet vanilla and coconut, tangy woodland berries. Nice complexity. REally like it.
3.6On tap at Borefts, shared.
Thin ring tan head. Clear black pour. Nice coffee notes. Very good.
4.1Draft @ Borefts ’16. Pours a pitch black beer with a big creamy brown head on top. Aroma of sweet oats, darker caramel, loads of vanilla, and sweet chocolate. Flavor has a lot of sweetness, very subtle, creamy mouthfeel, Touches of chocolate, hints of bourbon vanilla and caramel, all blended to almost perfection. Softly carbonated, amazing balance and great beer.
3.6Draft at Borefts 2016, Day 2. Near black with a ring tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, caramel, molasses, booze. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Medium to full bodied with alcohol warmth in the finish and soft carbonation. [24-09-2016]
4.2Sampled @ Borefts Beer Festival 2016, Day 2. Opaque pitch black color, small to average sized brown head. Aroma is malts, light chocolate, mocha, dark malts. Taste malts, dark malts, chocolate, moderately bitter, soft roast. Medium body, soft carbonation. Very nice!
3.8Tap at Borefts. Black with nice tan head. Sweet chocolate and coffee, vanilla, light herbs and licorice, sweet malts. Over medium sweet and light itter. Almost full bodied.
3.9Sampled from tap at Borefts 2016 day 2. Black pour with tan head. Big sweet deep roasted chocolate malts. Chocolate and vanilla. Big sweet and mild cocoa bitter. Full body, soft carbonation. Cocoa finish.
4.1Pours dark, almost black and sticky, bit of brown foam. Looking delicious, like fresh brewed coffee. Aroma is vinous, some cocoa, I am also getting some smoked leather, horse saddle. Sweet dark fruits also playing in the background. Taste is roasty, bitter, has some vinous notes and actually not that sweet overall. Bitter chocolate on steroids, made soft and quaffable with lactose. Alcohol is coming through just before the finish, leaving some smoked roast and bitter-sweaty leather lingering. Surprisingly well balanced, nice sipper (although I am drinking it faster than I should) and all-around solid brew.
4.1Aroma: smoke, coffee, mocha, malt and spirit in huge wafts
Appearance: super black, heart of brown, perfect tan head
Flavour: initial coffee followed by rich dark malt balanced with great hop bitterness
Palate: long toasty malt finish with a hint of brandy.
Alkoholflavour
3.5Malt chocolate hop flavour. Dark brown colour poor head and lacing. Malt chocolate hop roast flavour. Smooth palate.
4.3Bottle at Erzbierschof Monday Club. Intense ripe dark fruit, plums, some candy and marshmallows. Heavy body, fruity still. Feels barrel aged but isn’t. Fizzy carbonation, boozy palate. Good balance. Incredible!
4.4Solid stout - get the flavours described but kinda two dimensional and not the depth expected - smooth and easy drinking - alcohol invisible.
4.0Kolor ciemno hebanowy, niemal czarny, piana gęsta i zdobiąca szkło, brązowa.
3.8Just kinda a typical middle good stout. You don’t get powerful cocoa or vanilla, just a typical roasty malt character with hints of the adjuncts, and the beer is surprisingly difficult to drink for its ABV. I will say I rather enjoyed the mouthfeel.
3.9On tap at BD57, november 20th 2015. Black body with a snall dark brown head. Arima is boozy with coffee, vanilla, peat. Taste is thick and fullbodied, dark malt, chocolate, mild acidity. Heavy sweet and bitter combination, with a dry peaty finish. Not bad.
3.422nd June 2016
Opaque dark brown beer, decent dark tan head. Airy palate, smooth and with modest fine carbonation. Tangy dark malts, little dark chocolate. Mild alcohol spice. A little dark fruits. Smooth finish. Rich but lacking complexity.
3.9From tap at Mikkeller & Friends. Black with a beige head. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt, licorice, caramel, chocolate and vanilla.
4.0Bottle, 330 ml at Pivkan, shared with Miro and Kova. Pours black with light brownish head. Roasted malts, chocolate, some vanilla. Sweet, but not overly. Not that complex, but very drinkable.
3.933cl bottle. Color is dark. Head is thin and brown. Taste is medium sweet and bitter. Aroma is wood, earth, chocolate, hops, grass, coffee, lactose, vanilla, bourbon.
