BrewDog IPA Is Dead - Bramling X

BrewDog IPA Is Dead - Bramling X

Good old Bramling Cross is elegant, refined, assured, (boring) and understated. Understated that is unless you hop the living daylights out of a beer with it. This is Bramling Cross re-invented and re-imagined and shows just what can be done with English hops if you use enough of them. Poor Bramling Cross normally gets lost in a woeful stream of conformist brown ales made by sleepy cask ale brewers. But not anymore. This beer shows that British hops do have some soul, and is a fruity riot of blackberries, pears, and plums. Reminds me of the bramble, apple and ginger jam my grandmother used to make.

3.4 Bottle from Systembolaget, reviewed in the summer of 2011. Flowery and fruity smell and taste with some berries, black currant to be exact. Fairly mild bitterness. This hops didn’t quite make it on its own, but an interesting experiement.
3.8 Bottle from brewdog.com. Pretty nice, strange jam taste at the end but a very nice whiff to it. Quite like ribena really.
3.1 The beer in the glass is dark yellow with a little foam. Hoppy aroma with light citrus and grassy notes and a lot of herbs in the background. Starts very herbal, slightly medicinal, herbaceous-hoppy, subtle citrus notes in the background. The middle part is also very herbal-hoppy, subtly bitter, with a slight herbal note. Goes into a hoppy-dry finish with plenty of herbs (especially sage)!
3.3 Bottle. Pours a haxy golden amber. Slightly cloudy with a dense light tan coloured head. Falls away super quickly leaving plenty of fine lacing. Aroma is of earthy spicy hops, primarily ginger and cloves, offset by some light caramel sweetness. Flavours a dominated by a somewhat harsh resiny hop bitterness. Some sweetness and a little spice but mostly it is about the slightly harsh hops. Medium mouthfeel. Medium mouthfeel. Not my favourite.
4.3 Aroma molt agradable, molt melosa i carbònic lleuger. Molt bona. Per beure’n sempre.
3.3 Den här ölen är lite för lugn och timid för min smak. Söt men alldeles för försiktig men trots det är smaken ändå god.
3.3 Hazy orange with asmall white head. Fruit and hop notes. malt, fruit and hops. Medium body with a bitter finish.
3.3 [330ml bottle from the Canterbury Bottle Shop] Orange with a moderate creamy head and a light fizz. Light, but fresh aroma. Caramel and ginger at first, but then unusually for Brewdog some dustiness, cardboard and even a vague metallic hint. It’s redeemed to an extent by summer fruit hints (raspberries, peaches), and there’s vanilla in the finish. The mouthfeel is creamy, almost cloying at times, and dry in the finish. It’s still OK, but it’s certainly not one of Brewdog’s better moments, and it’s probably the worst of the IPA is Dead series.
3.7 0,33 l bottle, Utobeer, London. Hazy orange reddish appearance with a fine, medium, creamy off white head. Caramell and flowery-herbal aromas, some rosehip, some grass, peach, dandelion. Medium bodied beer with a herbal hop character, wild fruits and peach, rosehip and the dandelion again. The bitterness is on the herbal not on the resiny side.
3.6 Bottle shared by Armando629, thanks much! Poured somewhat hazy, with an amber color and a lacing, tan head. Honey, caramel, apple, hops, with an earthy aftertaste. Medium dense, with high carbonation. A unique brew, but I enjoyed it, good one.
2.5 Flaske 0,33l. Spandert av Rune og delt hjemme hos ham 14 Apr 11. Gylden. Høyt kremaktig skum. Svak appelsinaroma. Litt vassen smak. ettersmaken kraftigere: Tørr & bitter. KI=2
4.0 Pours a dark cloudy copper with aroma of apple/pear and some darker malts (not very pronounced tho). Taste is almost sweet wow wonderful flavour.. taste is citrus with apple/pear and i great caramel malt. Overall this is a wonderful beer only let down by its light aroma.
3.4 Orange and almonds in the nose. this one is also quite sweet. Oranges, sweet malt, peculiar dryness in the tail. Not really impressive on its own.
3.8 Bottle I bought at Utobeer, London, shared with Dutchdrebus at his place to celibrate his birthday. Firm white head on top of a hazy dark orange colored beer. Smell hops, sharp bitterness, lightly fruits. Taste bitter, lightly fruity, grapefruit and a bit faint hops. Medium carbo, medium body.
3.7 IPA Is Dead tasting in bottle at home with Sev. Cheers Craig : ) First cab off the rank pours a deep amber colour with a thin white head. Aroma of strawberry jam tarts and caramel. Juicy blackberry and plum flavours with caramel and well masked alcohol. Mild bitterness. Mild carbonation and a little CO2 prickle. Surprisingly good.
3.4 33 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Kahdet Kasvot, Tampere. Rated on 14.04.2011 Tasted in a vertical with other three Dead IPAs, this was worst. Butter-like, a bit bitter. Not sweet, somewhat fresh.
3.9 Bottle that Craig left with me, consumed at home Thursday 27th October 2011, cheers Craig. Pours light amber, touch hazy with white head, some sweetness on the nose. This really has an American IPA feel about it, soft in mouth, punchy hops, never knew that Bramling X could be so good. Gentle citrus tun into a surge of citrus, Loz gets freshly laundered clothing on nose. Lovely beer. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 3.9
3.5 Gedronken bij dutchdrebus, kleur is oranje, niet helder, wit tot creme kleurig schuim, ruikt hoppig, minder dan nelson sauvin, smaakt hoppig, best bitter.
3.5 Hazy orange colour with a big off-white head. Not as fresh as the nelson sauvin one, bit round, fruity, hoppy. Tastes round, not that fresh, hoppy but not that fruity. Good carbo, medium body.
3.5 33cl. bottle from a local beer retailer. It pours a very hazy amber liquid with a medium thinly white head that leaves a little lacing. The aroma is fresh and obviously very hoppy, bitter, with grass, herbs, spices, a little pine, citron (mostly lemon, but also a little grapefruit), licorice and grapefruit along with hints of caramel and yeast. It tastes likewise, maltier than it smells, the licorice now revealing itself completely. It is being low-medium sweet, high bitter and medium sour. In the mouth it feels a little lively carbonated (little bubbles), oily, with a slightly thinning medium body and a dry bitter and sour finish, with a lemony and herbal aftertaste with hints of licorice. Presentation rocks (as always with Brewdog) for an OK beer; bramling cross is not the most celebrated hop because there is much more interesting stuff out there.
3.6 La mas floja del pack.Esta bien para enjuagar la boca antes de beber el resto.Buena retencion,Bramling x lúpulo elegante .a veces apetece.
2.6 Bottle. Pretty poor all-in-all. Smelled funky and off. Looked fine. Tasted funky and off. Not good,
2.9 Bottle. Aroma has some mild fruitiness with lots of malt, slightly vegetal. Taste is similar, quite earthy, ashy. Not great
3.5 Slightly hazy orange color with a large beige-white head, some lacing. Aroma is nd fruity with berries, flowers and caramel. Flavour of flowers, fruit, berries, caramel. Rather sweet with a balanced bitterness. Mediumbodied with soft carbonation. Nice.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a hazy and golden beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt, caramel, berries and blackberries. The flavor follows the nose with additional alcohol. The palate is sweetness with alcoholwarmth. Overall an average beer.
3.6 Bottle. Nice bottle of beer, strong hoppy flavour, not a major aroma. Clean tasting ale, would try again if it was available.
3.4 Bottle (33 cl) from Systembolaget. Hazy amber, medium off-white head. Fruity and earthy, almost smokey, a hint of alcohol as well. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Dry with firm bitterness. Not a great hop for IPA I think.
3.4 Pours amber with high frothy head. Aromas are dark tones of raisins, oak and also som pineapple. Taste of oak, raisins and just a general woodyness of this slightly bitter single hop IPA.
3.3 Typsikt engelsk humlekaraktär med smörblommor, fruktkaka med hasselnötter och knäck. Passar fint mot den lite knäckiga maltprofien.
3.5 Bottle from Systembolaget. Hazy amber beer with foamy white head. Citrucy fruity hoppy aroma. Quite sweet with the pleasantly fruity hoppy taste, no cat piss here. Definitely better than the Sorachi Ace version.
