BrewDog IPA Is Dead - Dana

BrewDog IPA Is Dead - Dana

Keg and bottled, 2013 release

Using the same base 6.7% beer, a baby version of our Hardcore, we slam a mouth puckering 75 IBUs on top of a base of Marris Otter, Crystal Malt and Caramalt before throwing dizzying amounts of hops at these beers.

A pseudo noble hop. Noble like a mother fucking king. But not a boring king. Noble like a chain smoking, pimp of a pinball wizard king. Apparently, they are the best kind.

Hailing from Slovenia, Dana was originally cross bred from the German Hallertau Magnum and native Slovenian varieties. Like any good faux noble hop should it infuses a rustic, musty spiciness into a classic beast of a malt base, just like your grandfather’s old school aftershave.

This hop of Eastern European origin is best enjoyed whilst dreaming up a song about a lovely donkey that fell in love with a princess that is destined to take the Eurovision song contest by storm.

3.8 One of the best mouthfeels I have encountered. Super smooth but with an edge so interesting. Excellent hop aroma and flavour. Very good
3.8 Bottle from Bierzwerg! Pours amber colored with a flat creamy head. Smells very fruity with passion fruit, mango and some peach. Starts intense fruity, lots of tropical fruit, maracuja and some caramel malts. Middle part has adorable floral hop notes. Finish has also flowery hops and some herbal notes, paired with some tropical fruits. Awesome IPA!!!
3.5 Not as punchy with the hops flavours as the others in the series, much more of a malt presence. The most sessionable of the lot.
3.1 Butelka 0.3L.
Color ambar. Sabor a lupulo, citrico, afrutado, con final ligeramente amargo.
3.4 Hazy orange, small white head. Sweaty, fruity aroma, coriander and citrus. Heavy, slightly harsh bitterness. Pine, citrus. Crisp mouthfeel and aftertaste.
3.6 330ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden amber, with a moderate off-white head, which lasts fairly well and leaves decent lacing. Cardamom, cinnamon and chamomile sit over a base of caramel malt to create an unusual aroma. Crisp, spicy, pilsener-like hops up front gradually segue into an interesting mix of chamomile and cardamom leading into the mid-palate. Caramel malt gives it a bit of body, with spicy cloves and cardamom in the finish. This is definitely the strangest single hop IPA I’ve had, even odder than Sorachi Ace. It is a bit like a German pilsener, but it also has a range of hops flavours that I’ve never encountered before. Confronting, but quite good.
3.6 Bottle from Great Grog, Edinburgh. This is hazy dark amber coloured with orange marmalade, tropical fruit and red fruity flavours, a creamy mouthfeel and vanilla on the finish.
3.1 Golden pour. Small head. Flavours are a bit medicinal with some grapefruit characteristics. Not something very tasty, but nice yo approximate the particular flavor of the Dana hop.
2.5 Cor latanja turva com espuma branca baixas formação e persistência; quase sem lacing; Aroma de toranja e cobre beirando o desagradável; Sem sabor, gosto de álcool e amargor no final; Não gostei.
3.2 Bouteille: Orangey and cloudy coloured, small persistent off-white head, medical-herbal hoppy nose with some grapefruity traces underneath; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, very smooth; lingering dry medical (a tinge of cough syrup included) finish followed by a moderate malty sweetness in the aftertaste. Well balanced stuff with pretty unpleasant hop flavours…
3.4 Ins Glas ergießt sich ein orangegoldenes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch intensiv malzig, fruchtig herb. Geschmack sehr mild fruchtig bitter nach exotischen Früchten.
2.8 Bottle. Hazy yellow-orange, low head. Kumquat nose, light strawberry, lemongrass. Medium full, slightly chalky body. Sweet fruity base, a hint phenolic, bergamotte and mineral finish. This one is a bit weird.
3.8 330 ml. bottle, dirty hazy golden colour, with a normal head that leaves a small lace. Smell of citrus, coriander, tropical fruits. Harsh on the palate, sticky, taste of citrus, caramel, tropical fruits and some spices. Not too different to Eldorado or Dana. Good.
3.3 Bottle. Golden- orange colour with a white head. Aroma is bubblegum, orange, citrus. Flavour is bubblegum, citrus, pine, orange. Medium body. OK beer.
3.0 Pours a deep orange with white head. Mellow aroma of strawberry jam, floral, citrus, spice, caramel and mint. Round mouth feel with low carbonation. Aftertaste is dry, floral, round, mint, spice and lasting floral hop bitterness. Overall: well brewed, but bland. Miss more hop character in aroma and aftertaste.
2.5 Pours cloudy orange color with a minimal to medium white head. Floral, herbal, spicy aroma. Tastes like eating a flower. Not my type of hop / IPA.
3.1 A single hop, not too bad... Very hopsy taste at the beginning but it finish quickly... I like this sweet Slovenian hops
2.7 Bottled 330ml. -Mix of four different kinds from www.beershop.hr. Cloudy orange coloured, small white head, mild fruity caramel nose. Sweetish malty, slight herbal hoppy and light bitter finish. Some grassy notes also. Drinkable but boring.
2.4 Draught @ BrewDog Camden, 113 Bayham Street, London, Greater London, England NW1 0AG. Hazy - murky matt medium orange color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, moderate to light light heavy hoppy, orange - citrus, hop oil, harsh, tea. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to light light moderate bitter with a long duration, harsh sweet, sweet fruit, rubbery, tea, harsh - acrid butter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20130401]
2.9 Bottle from Brewdog online shop. Orange colour with a moderate off-white head and a middling fizz. Tastes of cheese (including a touch of that dried parmesan vomit flavour) and strawberry sherbert. Very sweet and not particularly hoppy for an IPA. Weird and a little unpleasant. The worst I’ve tasted of the IPA is Dead range so far.
3.3 330 ml bottle. Slightly unclear golden body with an off-white head. A bit strange in the aroma, a mix of tropical fruit, bubblegum and malt. Flavor is sweet malty, tropical fruit, some of this bubble gum stuff and medium bitterness. Medium body and average aftertaste with sweet malt, fruit and some bitterness. Not bad at all, and this slightly unusual flavor just make it more interesting.
3.2 Bottle from Kihoskh, København. Orangey amber. Meduim-sized, lacing white top. Toasted malts and woody, earthy and faint citrus-fruity hops to the nose. Notes of hay and flowers. Mid-bodied. Fruity-earthy hop flavor. Firm bitterness. Semi-sweet malt base. Earthy-bitter hops linger in the finish.
3.0 33CL bottle thanks to Bierkoning(Edo), orange beer with a medium head, citrusy aroma, taste is bitter, citrus. Not my favorite hop. But good beer.
3.0 1st bottle from the 4-pack. Pours hazy deep orange with small off-white head. Nice aroma of toffee, citrus, apricot, lots of piney notes and herbs. Taste is initially sweet n malty, then hoppy and spicy. What I don’t like is the finish. Dry, earthy, with notes of hay and long not-so-pleasant earthy bitter aftertaste. Pretty soft carbonation. Lacks some more body, but it’s fairly drinkable.
3.2 Bottle - 330ml. Cloudy, dark gold body with an average off-white creamy head. Fresh hoppy aroma with malty, flowery, and herbal hints. Its light hoppy taste carries grassy and citrusy notes. Ends with a decent bitter finish. Not bad.
3.2 Bottled. Hazy deep orangeish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some fruits and mild resiny notes. Flavour is fruits, herbal grassy and mildly sweet malts. Wellbalanced and nice bitterness. Although not one of the top hops.
3.1 From Voldby, DK. Bottled, 011213. Amber with white head. Aroma of hop spices. Flavor with malt, caramel and light fruit.
