BrewDog Konnichiwa Kitsune

Part of the "Hello, My name is..." series

Konnichiwa Kitsune is a citrus-packed double IPA. Named in a slight deviation from our Hello My Name Is series, Konnichiwa Kitsune is a Japanese-inspired, yuzu-infused imperial IPA, brewed with Amarillo, Cascade and Citra.

These punchy new world hops bring orange, grapefruit and lime to back up the yuzu aroma and flavour. Super citrusy with big mandarin notes, balanced against a caramel malt biscuity base.

3.8 Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. A bright golden coloured beer with sweet mandarin and clementine fruity flavours, pine, malty and biscuit flavours followed by a warming burnt toffee, pineapple and vanilla/oak finish. A very nice Double IPA / Barley Wine.
3.2 Bottle from some VP, i don’t remember which. Enjoyed at home Copper, small haze, massive beige head. Smell of fruity berries, grapefruit, zest and malts. Medium sweet, some acids from the berries, a hint of astringent, not all that well balanced, alot of yuzu. Heavy bitter, resins. Not the best of this series
3.7 Bottle from Sake Taniguchi (World Beer Market). Rather strong citrusy nose, floral, and heavy and fruity. Hazy orange/copper color, with a thick, sort of rochy, white head. Strong grapefruit initial, piney hops. Mid and final are have a full, thick mix of citrus notes (more than just yuzu). Medium body, rather warming. Very juicy, with the typical BrewDog heavy slaps of hopping.
4.0 330ml bottle from Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours gold with bubbly white head. Massive sugary lemon aroma. Taste is fruity pineapple, mandarin and tropical fruits, not too hop-forward, with well-integrated yuzu. Just how I like it.
2.4 330ml bottle from Hippo Beers. Hazy yellow amber, reasonable head. Fantastic lime & tropical fruit aroma. Strange unpleasant ? wasabi flavour. Bland watery aftertaste. Not my sort of beer.
3.6 Bottle. Pours golden with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus, berries, some herbs an pine. Flavor is sweet and fruity with some citrus, berries, pine and malt. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.9 Clear warm golden colour, white head. Fruity aroma, orange peel, hops, citrus, light onion. Bitter flavour, fruity, bit sweet, honey, malts. Fruity finish, marmalade, orange zest. Nice! (from 33cL bottle shared @ home)
3.5 Draught at Brewdog Roppongi. Rich citrus/tropical hops, sweet yuzu, biscuit malt, bittersweet finish. Good stuff, maybe a tad too sweet and boozy.
3.3 Orange coloured. Aroma is very floral. Lots of bitter orangey citrus. Also a bittersweet orange syrup taste. Warming hit of alcohol in the finish.
4.2 A well-hopped aroma of tropical fruits. The flavor is flowery, yet it has a lot of tropical fruit taste. Exquisite bitterness that fills the mouth forever. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.8 0,33l fles uitgeschonken oranje goud met een witte kraag. Geur is vol hop met brood, caramel. Smaak loopt hier mooi in door, met een zuurtje en bitter, fruitig. Body is medium.
3.9 Lovely unclear golden pour with a fine white head. Nice lacing on the glass. Looks nice. Citric, pine and something that reminds me of Belgian yeast in the aroma. Nice body with a smooth carbonation. Fine bitterness and a smooth sweetness. A bit acidic. Nice complex flavor with some yeast, citric and pine. Mild fruity. Lovely fresh double IPA with an unusual twist. Well masked alcohol. [Bottle from Vinmonopolet Aker Brygge in Olso, Norway]
3.7 Bottle. Cloudy golden beer with a strong head. The aroma is well hopped, and the flavour is deeply bitter and dry with plenty of hops. Overall a nice very strongly hopped beer.
3.8 Dosyć specyficzne DIPA. Okład z cytrusów na lekkiej podbudowie słodowej, średnie wysycenie, nieco przeszkadzające jednak. Wytrawne, wręcz winne. Ale to wszystko w sumie ma sens. B. dobre piwo
3.9 Amber with a white dussapearing head, no lacing. Aroma of tropical fruits. Tast is complex with tropical fruit, bisquit, lime and possibly yuzu thst’s not too familiar. Aftertaste like most Bredog, dry grapfruit from the Cascade hops and tangerine from the Amarillo hops.
3.8 Bottle with dutchdrebus and benzai. Clear amber color with a small white head. Smells and tastes sweet, hoppy, malty, grassy, fruity, apricot.
3.5 Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus and Ansjelaah. Clear dark orange color, average sized off-white head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma is weird: sweetish, hops, citrussy. Taste malts, some alcohol, citrussy, citrussy hopbitter but also a sweetish hint although that’s mostly in the aroma. Is it the yuzu? Weird fruit, could be it. Not very good in a double IPA though I think.
4.1 Bottle @ home. Clear amber olour with a medium sized white head. Smells herbs, hops, sweet, malts. Tastes hops, fruity, fresh, sweetish, something I can’t define. Nice. Medium body, nice crisp carbo.

3.9 33 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is grapefruity and solid peachy hoppy. Smooth fruity, crisp hoppy. Lingering fruity finish. Crisp hoppy and fruity finish.
3.9 How : bottle Appearance : hazy orange, small white head. Aroma : citrus peel, herbs, floral, caramel. Palate : medium to full body, average carbonation.
3.3 Flaska@BA Vasagatan. Orangeröd vätska med vitt skum. Doftar citrus och ananas och svagt av anis/fänkål. Bra maltsötma balanseras med en stor dos humlebeska. Störs en aning av anisinslaget i smaken. Når inte upp till övriga provade i Hello my name is-serien.
3.8 Butelka 0.33L. Wygląd: Jasny bursztyn, klarowne z iskrą. Średnioobfita, biała, średniopęcherzykowa, mało trwała piana. Aromat: Słodki chmielowy, żywiczny, truskawki, dojrzałe owoce egzotyczne, mandarynki, lekki cheddar. W tle nuty zbożowe. Odczucie: Faktura kremowa, wysycenie powyżej średniego, ciało średnie. Smak: Łagodne, chmielowe: cytrusowe, z nutą cheddara. Lekko słodkie z niską goryczką. Posmak lekko alkoholowy. Całość: No całkiem dobre, ma specyficzną cytrusowo-truskawkową nutę, jakiej normalnie w IIPAch nie czuć, więc może to od yuzu.
3.3 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy deep orange-hued amber body with a large creamy off-white head. Nice looks. Aroma is near-perfumy citrus notes, with lemon zest, grapefruit peel and hints of lime coming up first. Then, red fruits, wet grass, apricot and faint traces of caramel. Taste is red fruits, citric tones, grapefruit zest, lemongrass, bitter herbs and hints of pine, caramel, earthy leaves and spruce. Medium to full body, medium carbonation, parching finish and mouthfeel. Although this certainly smells nice and has a lot of freshness going for it taste-wise, the intense, parching citric-ness of the brew becomes overtly unbalanced after some sips. Just a tiny bit less would have made a deliciously crisp and fruity DIPA, but I feel this is a tad over the top. Decent enough though.
3.5 Flaske 330 fra Vinmonopolet, Tromsdalen. Drukket i Skibotn 3 Apr 15. Gyldenbrun med et bra skum. Luftig - men kollapser raskt. Svakt uklar. Aroma av fersken & sitron. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken er sammensatt av ulik syrlig frukt. Behagelig tørr syrlig ettersmak med ananas i avslutningen.
4.1 Bottle. Clear orange with medium persistent white head. Aroma of mango, grapefruit, tangerine, very fresh and citrusy. Taste goes from malty, medium sweet, caramel to bitter, but still very citrusy and fresh. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Very good DIPA.
