Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

3.6Black beer, light hoppy malty beer. Loads of toasted malt and some grassy hop, a little zesty fruit. Not very complex but pretty decent
3.7Can from BrewDog fanzine
Pours dark brown with quickly dissappearing head. Hoppy nose mixing with roasted aromas. Pleasant on tongue, nice combo of dark roasted bits with hoppy citruses. Good
3.8Black appearance. Aroma is malt, chocolate and roasted. Flavour is smooth, chocolate, coffee, malt, roasted and rich.
4.2Cask at Brewdog Cardiff. Black with cap of beige head, curtains of lacing. Sweet aroma, citrus, completely unexpected. Taste brings more sweet flavors, milk and light citrus. A finishing bitterness slowly rises at the back. Wonderful stuff....
3.5Backlog. Reddish black with a medium tan head. Very nice! Lots of dark fruits and heaps of hops.
3.8Very dark and with some reddish toner on the edge. Nose is very rich and malty with even liquorice tones. Taste light flat and salmiak and still malty but not as sweet as the nose gave. Palate short as expected from an IPA.
3.5Bottle. No idea from. Dark and meaty black IPA. A lot of personality.......
Nice chocolate and coffee aroma, some raisins and prunes. Flavor is roasty, with some fruit, chocolate, and pine.
3.7Bottle at KØ18. Fruity hop aroma. Almost black colour. Clear red shine. The flavour is fruity and nicely vinous. Has a good mineraly mouthfeel. Low bitterness. Mild sweet liquorice. Salty finish.
3.4Fra flaske.
Medium krop, kort eftersmag.
3.7Opaque black, almost matte, color with a thin, beige head. Surprisingly tropical aroma -mango, grapefruit- and mild taste, fairly fruity and notable bitter finish. Aftertaste is dominated by a strong bitterness and coffee-like roasted malt. Another hit from Brewdog.
3.8330ml bottle at Brewdog Tallinn. Pours black, beige head. Aroma is is roasty, dusty, hoppy, coffee. Taste is dry, roasty, herbal hoppy, coffee. Dry finish. Medium body, average carbonation. Quite well covered alcohol. Nice tasty balanced BIPA.
3.7Draft at Brewdog Shepherds Bush. Deep brown with a beige head. Roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and piney aroma. Bitter sweet, roasted, chocolate, caramel, piney and citric hops, coffee and hint of butterscotch, finish is bitter, well balanced. Medium bodied, smooth. Good one.
3.62014 rating. At Bistro L'Autre Oeil. Pours a small brownish head and has a dark brown appearance with ruby highlights. Ok lacing. Nice cocoa and hoppy aromas. Flavours are raisins, plums, dark chocolate, roasted malts. Some earthy type hops, not as dominant as expected, but still well balanced. Medium bodied. Fairly excesseive carbonation. Pretty good stuff, maybe a tad too pricey.
2.5Black IPA
Roasted, hoppy, coffee. 2/3
Tasty, mild. Hints of coffee indeed. Like light Guinness/black lager.

4.0Pirkts Beļģijā on tap.
3.0Dark brown color. Some smoke aromas, roasted malt, some grassy hops. Not too big, beige head. Tastes of roasted coffee beans, bit malty. Long lasting, quite rough bitterness. OK BIPA - but nothing special.
4.1Keg @ Brewdog Birmingham. Sweet, almost toffee-like aroma, hints of red berries in there too. Black as sin, thin lacing white head, slightly sweet and roasted malts in the mouth, leading to a finish like a chocolate fudge cake. Very good.
Impecable.
3.3Bottle 330ml. Reddish dark brown with a dense tanned head. Pungent hop aroma initially, settling in a bit of a strange note of Swedish Korv Stroganoff (look it up...)
Malty, sweet, finishing rather bitter from the hops. Rather sharp carbonation.
3.7Tap @O'Connels. Punch of grassy hops meet with alcohol and liquirice black malts. This is true black IPA.
2.9180mL draft from Brewdog Roppongi
Appearance - Black body with
Aroma - Quite cold at the time of dégustation so it didn't really give a lot on the nose.
Taste - More on the IPA than on the black side in termes of flavors, that are somewhat green and piney. The final taste is really that of a bitter cocoa.
Mouthfeel - A bit watery on the texture, quite carbonated.
Overall - Quite light as far as black IPAs go, both in terms of bitterness and malty aromas. A bit disappointing but still enjoyable.
3.3Tap@O'Connel's, Tampere, Finland. Medium bit smokey nuances with dark fruits like fig and a hint of plum. Some roasted malts and hops. Medium taste spectrum and medium aftertaste with roasted malts and a hint of licorice. Medium body with medium/light carbonation. Overall, too much dark vegetable-style nuances. Otherwise, quite sturdy product. 9 3 6 3 12
3.5From tap at Mel’s Craft Beers & Diner, Vienna. Dark chestnut-brown color with a tan colored head. The aroma is lightly hoppy and lightly malty - lightly roasty, toffee, pine, hints of lemon. Medium body with a light sweetness and a light to medium bitterness. The flavor starts with some mildly roasted malt (dried dark fruits, biscuit, nuts, some chocolate) followed by a medium, hoppy bitterness (some pine, grapefruit) Finishes lightly roasty and with a hoppy bitterness. Nice balance between the hops and the malt body.

4.0Tydliga IPA-aromer i lukt. Trevligt!
3.9Bevuta il 16/02/2018 @Brewdog in Firenze. Alla spina. Nera. Poca schiuma evanescente. Al naso tropicale misto a agrumi.
In bocca piacevole nota acidula agrumata accompagnata da note tropicali e leggermente tostate. Finale amarognolo e secco. Media carbonazione. Molto beverina.
3.4A quick one at Brewdog Clerkenwell. A good looking beer in the glass and a small head. There wasn't much aroma, but it had been overly chilled. The flavour was well balanced between toasted malt and what I felt was a rather faint taste of hops. This was a slighty hopped and very pleasant porter/stout hybrid, but I wouldn't classify it as a black IPA.
