#Mashtag 2014 - a beer for the people, by the people.
The #Mashtag concept is simple. We invited the public to vote on each aspect of the brew, from hops to malt to the special twist and even the label design, and from the thousands of possibilities this presented, the result is an imperial red ale, brewed with copious speciality malts, a global blend of hops, and blood orange, lemon peel and orange peel.
On the nose, there’s a riot of citrus, in many forms, from orange pith to lemon zest, via lime juice and even lemongrass. Fresh, bright resinous notes blend with light toasty malt aromas.
The palate is intense with toffee, with tiny hints of tobacco smoke coming through in little bursts, but the star attraction is an all-out bitter orange avalanche. A slightly psychotic, orange-that-thinks-it’s-a-grapefruit character builds upon and intensifies the hop bitterness, squaring up against the rich sweet malt base. The result is a huge red ale with a drinkable quality you’d expect in a beer half this strength.

3.1BOTTLE. Cloudy red pour, small to no beige head.. Boozy nose with some toffee stickyness & malt.. Rich sticky toffee & caramel mats with a boozy finish.. Sourced cellarbrations @ capel
4.0Clear red-brown colour. Fresh, fruity aroma with a fair whack of citrus. Despite its strength it is not heavy or sticky. Moderately bitter with plenty of fruity hop flavour.
4.2From bottle. Red with small head. Aroma fruits, syrup, apricot. Taste very sweet, resin, orange, caramel. Full body, low carbonation, note of warming alcohol. Despite being old it was great.
3.9Bottle. Deep brown red colour. Small beige head. Nutty aroma, orange peel, caramel and dark dried fruits. Sweet malt flavour, nuts, caramel, fruit cake. Oily body, low carbo. Medium sweet finish with alcohol warmth. Excellent.
3.5Colour is dark amber-reddish, medium light amber head. Aroma of dried orange peel, dried citruses and some hidden, light coffee-like bitterness. The taste opens with malty sweetness, nuts, cereals and some very subtle caramel. Finish is bitter with some chocolate-like notes. Aftertaste brings the hops forward with pine and bitter lemon.
3.7Deep red/brown with medium head. Marachino cherry and pomelo peel in the aroma. Aswell tart and alcohol. The taste is sweet and bitter. Notes are syrup and citrus peel. The rest reminds me of a fruit cake with some spices. The beer is very satisfying with spicy food or on its own.
3.7Bottle frae Brew Dog Bottle Shop, Kings Cross. Clear reddy brown looks with a lingering mid range beige head . Aroma had some dark fruits and spice alongside some good hop. Flavour was sweet malts, booze, berry fruit, citrus, toffee, wood and resinous hop. Fullish body. Decent balance struck. Enjoyable wee drop.
3.6Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks troubles. Clear brown-red. Malty, a little vinous and biscuit aroma, malty, bitter, biscuit and biting taste. Medium body, a little alcoholic, sweetish finish.
3.9from Amstein - clear reddish-brown beer with a chaotic foam left; strong hoppy aroma of red fruits, molasses and caramel; a fair malt sweetness, full-bodied, a decent bitterness, some residual sweetness and a long malty fruity hoppy finish
2.8Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks troubles. Clear amber. Aroma of malt, caramel, and stale hops. Sweetish flavor with malt, caramel, stale hops, and some bitterness. Medium-bodied.
3.4Pours dark copper color with very small tan head that quickly disapears. Nose is molasse, red fruits, caramel. Aromas are roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and some pine notes. Oily texture, medium carbonation. Medium bitter finish, with a metallic aftertaste. Rather well balanced between sweetness and bitterness, but the persistent aftertaste is deceptive.
3.60.33 flaske. Mørk kobber med skum som forsvant fort. Aroma malt, karamell. Smak sitrus malt. Co2 medium.
3.9Beautiful lively aroma of citrus fruits. Tastes similarly like BrewDog’s very own 5 A.M. Saint, but a somehow "deluxe version". Quite sweet, but not too much. Wonderful notes of chocolate on the palate. Democracy at its best.
3.0Kolor: Miedziany. Piwo jest klarowne.
Piana: Drobnopęcherzykowa. Niezbyt obfita. Niezbyt trwała. Lacing śladowy.
Aromat: Żywica spod której wyłazi odrobina karmelu. Mógłby być bardziej intensywny. Odrobina rozpuszczalnika
Smak: Karmel pomieszany z rozpuszczalnikiem.
Brak informacji o chmieleniu, zasypie i użytych drożdżach.
Uwagi: Warka ważna do 27-05-2015. Wielkie rozczarowanie. Nie polecam.
4.3Bottle. Clear ruby-orange color with small unsteady head. Aroma of cranberry, grapefruit, some pepper notes. Taste is medium bitter, some earthy and citrus notes. Finish is long, with nice load of bitterness. 9% ABV can’t be detected in taste or aroma, only by thickness of body. Nice beer!

1.4Bottled at Ugglan, Stockholm. Hazy nut brown, small head. Caramelly nose. Sweet with medium-full body and rounded, sticky mouthfeel. Syrup, molasses, not much else. A sticky mess.
3.9Nice rusty brown appearance with some head that disappears quickly. Rich tastes of citrus, caramel, raisin some vanilla and a balanced aftertaste of alcohol
3.6From bottle in tulip glass. Beautiful head on a crimson body. Rich taste as expected from an Imperial Red: toffee through to citrus. Plenty of ethanol in the finish.
4.131.7.2014. Very dark red. Aroma is familiar Brewdog, piny grapefruity hops. Also zest, red berries, grass. Taste has first sweet toffee, turning into intense piny hops, showing plenty of malts as well, and wood. Oily. Dangerously delicious for the abv.
3.6Bottle 33cl. Small cream colored head. Clear red brown color. Aroma is maple syrup, leaves, berries, wood, honey, hops. Taste is sweet syrup with sugar berries.
3.30,33l fles thui.
3.7(bottle, 33cl) Clear, dark amber colour with a short and tanned foamy head. Slightly nutty and syrupy malty aroma with notes of caramel and juicy fruity notes of dark and red berries, accompanied by accents of spices and spruce. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a calm carbonation. Slightly molassy dark malty base with notes of toffee, cough syrup and fruit cocktail, also spicy herbal and slightly resiny hops; sweet-bitter malt-accented and slightly syrupy finish with a good dash of spicy, resiny and subtle fruity hops. The alcohol is deceptively well-hidden. 28.I.15

Tastes malt bitter and hoppy bitter.

Great and interesting brew!
3.8Clear solidly deep copper red colour with a pillowy dark white-beige head with good lacings. On the nose aromas of cara-red malt, toffee, herbs, orange, orange zest and dried lime peel develop. Softly carbonated, smooth slick texture with a full body. Fruity sweet flavours dominate offering some alcoholaromatic notes with a well pronounced toffeed hop bitterness. Harmonic beer with a lasting finish.
