A collaboration brew between BrewDog and Mikkeller. This different vintage was brewed in 2009 with a 1/3rd of the beer being aged in a speyside whisky cask before being blended back with the base beer in 2010. The result is a 13.8% barley wine.
NOTE: This is a different recipe to the previous batch and is clearly labelled as Devine Rebel 2010. If the bottle does not say 2010, the rating should go under the first batch.

4.0Bottle originally from BrewDog online. BrewDog rating #200. It pours deep ruby with a rapidly diminishing yellow head. The nose is quite savoury, wood, earth, brown bread, spice, tart fruit skin, date, fig, berry, faint jam. The taste is plum skin, date, red grape, fig, faint fruity tartness, toffee, wood, varnish, resin, alcohol warmth, spice and some medicinal whisky notes with a dry, bitter finish. Full body, fine carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Good depth of flavour and well balanced. The fine carbonation lifts it and makes it rather drinkable also. Tasty.
3.0Cellared bottle. Pours murky brown with no head. Aroma is slightly over-ripened stone fruit (very specific, I know). Taste is oxidized a bit, sweet....I taste plum, Sticky sweet and slightly cloying. Kind of a mess but this may have been improperly stored. I will try another to make a better assessment.
3.6Bottle. Pours dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of whisky, caramel, toffee, vanilla and some dark fruit. Flavor was strong and boozy with caramel, brown sugar, whisky barrel, vanilla and some notes of toffee. Full bodied with soft carbonation and had a oily texture.
3.7Deep copper, clear, tan head. Aroma: bready and toasty malt, earthy and herbal notes, leather/tobacco. Flavor: toasty malt, earthy notes, spicy hops, leather aged character, subtle bourbon barrel.
3.7Rated from backlog, Aroma is sweet and complex, taste has heavy alcohol with hints of whiskey and mroe on the sweet side. Ok beer but didn’t find this very special.
3.7Rated in 2010 (Backlog) - Dark amber with a decent sized beige head. Aroma is of light whisky, wood tabacco and smoke. Taste is of pine, roasted malt, whiskey and lots of booze.
3.8Bottle at home, from Bitter Virtue, 13/06/13.
Dark chestnut brown with a scummy looking light tan head, like dirty soap in a sink basin. Looked so much better when it first poured!
Nose is rich caramel and toffee, sugars, touch of booze, marzipan, woody tones, light medicinal/germaline notes.
Taste comprises burnt toffee, rich caramel, demerara sugars, dates, raisens, boozey touch.
Full bodied, fine carbonation but dangerously drinkable for 13.8%!
A pretty decent barley wine, alcohol is well disgusied for the ABV, easy drinking and for a 330ml bottle to myself I never tired of this one as is sometimes the case with a BW!
2.408.06.2013, 0,33l bottle sampled @ BBGTC tasting:
Almost no head. Aroma is slightly oxidated, oak, thinner, caramel malts, toffee, grass, butterscotch, almond essence, warming alcohol, dark sugar. Taste is perly carbonated, slightly dry, caramel malts, oak, toffee, dark sugar, burnt caramel, grass, cocoa, sorrel. Dry mouthfeel. Fair enough.
3.4On tap at Relik Tavern in Benicia, CA. Pretty good barley wine with strong alcohol, berries, raisin, barley and malt.
3.8330 ml bottle. Cloudy, deep red body with medium sized, fast disappearing beige head. Aroma has caramel malt, hoppy fruit, berries, spices and some yeast and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, fruit, hops, some wood and quite bitter. Fine body and a long, pleasant aftertaste. Nice and smooth, prefer this from the previous version.
3.0(33 cl bottle from Studenterhuset Aarhus; Batch 406; Claims to be bottled on 11/02/15, which I presume means February 15th 2011) Pours dark copper with medium, tan head. Decent regeneration and some lace. Aroma is malty and complex with notes of molasses, honey, pepper, oak and a hint of oxydation as well as booze. The body is extremely full, carbonation soft, texture oily and the finish is warming and dry towards the end. Taste is mostly sweet with an astringent edge. I guess it would be good for a rainy day in Scotland but barley wine is simply not one of my favourite styles.
3.1Clear dark amber, no head. Odd aroma of berries and boozy syrup. Palate wrecking flavor of intense boozy notes, berries, currants, and woody liquor.
3.7Bottle thanks to thirdeye11. The beer is copper in color, has a decent beige colored head, and is clear. The smell is grapefruits, juice, fruits, and hops. The taste is grapefruit juice, hops, caramel, and sweet .
4.430/11/12 - 33cl bottle from Biernavigatie (webshop, NL) @ home - bottled: 11/II/15 - I kid you not, it said bottled 2015 (2012-1316) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!
Little cloudy dark amber to red beer, small aery irregular head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet, honey, caramel, vanilla, malty, some chocolate. MF: quite some carbon, full body. Taste: caramel, some what sour, red wine vinegar, vanilla, hint of whisky, alcohol noticeable, bit sugary, bitter, more vanilla, chocolate. Aftertaste: sour touch, caramel, red fruits, alcohol, sugary, dark chocolate. Wow, an amazing beer!
3.8Shared from a 33 cl bottle at home. Pours a cloudy dark copper with a quickly dissipating off white head. Strong boozy burnt caramel aroma. Dark cherries and caramel, with a strong alcohol finish.
3.6Un peu mince en bouche comme m’a habitué brewdog mais les saveurs ne sont pas aussi quelconque. Pas très sucré, légèrement boisé et très sec au final. Correct.
2.6A solid pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a two-finger thick, amber tinged, fairly quickly disappearing, dark tan colored head. The beer is a concentrated amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, amber tinged, cranberry red hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells strongly whisky influenced; touches of brine, peat smokiness, spicy oak, melon, as well as other notes of concentrated plums, toasted-smoky whole grain notes, concentrated caramelized malt, touches of sherry / nutty oxidation, and lots of woody, earthy, sort of tobacco like notes, and lots of spicy, warming alcohol. The aroma is quite complex and interesting, though it isn’t very balanced or integrated, but it is enjoyable enough.
Sweet caramelized malt notes are quickly consumed by huge whisky notes that lean towards hot alcohol, astringent mouth puckering oak, spicy wood, cured plastic like hot notes in the finish, and a touch of light bitterness. Toasted malt notes lean almost towards a roast character (or is that the influence of the barrel), and there is a slight nutty character as well as a touch of sherry like oxidation. This is quite light bodied for a beer of this strength, on the other hand it is exceedingly hot and alcoholic.
The nose showed some promise, but this beer has way too much alcohol and Whisky barrel character to be balanced at all in the flavor; I could see whisky afficianados perhaps enjoying this, but it is just too hot and unbalanced for my taste preferences.
3.6Bottle: Thanks Jan:
Lively medium sized light brown beige head, disappears quick and leaves a headless murky orange purple red-ish.
Smell whiskey (spicy) notes, berries, wood, cream, vanilla, meat and a slight hint of plastic.
Taste is spicy, barleys, dry wood, grass and hay, dry, some liquorice wood, toasted liquor drenched barleys. Bit unbalanced, tend to go lightly to a nasty malty aftertaste.
Aftertaste is grassy and hay with dry liquorice wood and some herbal spices.
Low to medium carbo, spicy mouthfeel, full body and a creamy spicy texture.
Expected more, bit unbalanced.
3.9pours murky medium dark brown with a decent beige head, little retention. roastiness, some pine, delicate smoky-whiskey aroma, woodiness, dry caramel, nuts, plenty of dark fruits. relatively soft carbonation, full body, nice grassy, lightly acidic and smoky finish.
2.4Looks like a BW smells like a BW to a degree but really loses me on the taste. Not sweet at all and the barrel is really hard to get. No hops but that is how I like my BWs. Too much carb as well.
3.2Poured light muddy brown. Aroma is sharp with a pronounce scotch note. Flavor is powerful with a barely punch and slight smokey undertones.
3.9Very dark red body with an off white head. Strong, complex aroma with burned caramel, liqueur, butter, blackberries, grapes, honey, brown sugar. Warming, full body. Somewhat unbalanced flavour with sweet notes like blackberries and brown sugar as well as quite bitter pine notes, a hint of whiskey.
3.2Pours a dark amber color with a khaki head. The nose is malty with lots of caramel, toast, toffee, and a hint of brown sugar. Some wood and vanilla notes and a hint of whiskey. There is a touch of fruitiness as well as some alcohol. Despite the age of the beer, still somewhat hoppy/bitter. Mild oxidation, caramel, toffee, and toasted bread. Mild oak flavors to it and a subtle fruitiness. As with the nose, just a little bit of alcohol heat.
3.412oz bottle thanks to mar..Pour is a dark amber, with a small tan head..Nose is scotch, caramel, wet wood, vanilla, dark fruits, toffee whiskey...Taste is whiskey, wet wood, alcohol, vanilla, smooth, brown sugar, alcohol..palate is smooth, with light alcohol bite
3.81st May 2010
Cloudy dark-red brown beer, big frothy tan head. Light palate - dry and a little soft. This is a big beer! Port Wine and Brandy tones immediately obvious but held in check but surprising espresso coffee bitterness. The bitterness ebbs leaving strong spirity malt. Finishes a little dry with minerals, spice and a little cherry. Quite different from the original. Could do with some time though! 3.3

Bodney Towers Bottleshare. Very hazy orange - amber beer, small cream colour head. Palate is smooth and fairly dry, decent fine carbonation. Airy malts, good caramel and cream. Tangy fruits and soft orange, Mild spice. Smooth finish leaves a spicy linger. Has aged very well, a big improvement over the last 7+ years.
1.6Looks great and not a bad nose. Just too darn malty sweet for my palette.
3.72 finger red-beige head that fast sinks to 0mm. Red-amber body. Nose: Madeira, figs, dates and wine-gum. Aroma: Dates, figs, alcohol-sting, madeira, chocolate, toffee, oranges and grapefruit. Liqueur-like. Long semi-sweet ending with some bitterness and sharp alcohol-sting.
3.6In bottle at Craig’s BrewDog tasting. Pours a dark amber colour with a thin yellowish head. Aroma of pine, pineapple, caramel and lots of alcohol. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Alcohol is very present again with moderate bitterness.
