BrewDog Native Son IPA

BrewDog Native Son IPA

WEST COAST DOUBLE IPA

A big, dank, double IPA, sitting in the 8 – 9% bracket in our Amplified range – filling a gap that has been sitting empty since hardcore IPA departed. A new beer developed by our Head of Production Jason Pond, the first brew he came up with since joining became an instant hit.

3.5 BrewDog Native Son IPA IPA - Imperial / Double 747413 Lukt: Citrus, honning. Utseende: Honning gyllen. Skum/kullsyre: Dekkende skum., heng. Smak: Citrus, honning, eik.
3.6 330ml can from Vinmonopolet in Vadsø. Firm pearl white head blanketing the glass. Misty amber-gold body. Blossom tropical fruity nose, promising. Blended taste profile of citrus, pine and almond. Smooth bittersweet finish. Fine depth. Good drinking. (Hotel room, Vadsø 07.03.2019).
3.7 On tap @ Brewdog Clerkenwell. Backlog rating. The aroma us citric and piney. Bit hazy, golden coloured beer with a thin head. The taste is moderate-strong bitter, light malty sweet, citric with a piney bite. Good.
3.5 gyllen, maltig og fruktig, overaskende tynn........................................
3.7 Can Aroma-grapefruit, pineapple Appearance-golden, hazy, white head Taste-medium bitter, light sour, light sweetness Palate-full body, sticky, average carbonation, long finish Overall-very good
3.2 330 ml can, as BrewDog Native Son West Coast Double IPA, from Vinmonopolet Jørpeland. ABV is 8.5%. Deep golden colour, large to moderate white head. Aroma of orange marmalade and piney hops. Sweet (too sweet) flavour with distinct and piney bittering hops.
3.7 Hazy, amber body with a large, creamy, dense, long-lasting, off-white head that sticks to the glass. Strong aroma of overripe tropical fruits, caramel, and hints of burnt sugar. Strong flavour of slightly overripe tropical fruits (but less tropical than the fruity notes of the aroma), citrus zest, alcohol, hints of red berries, and caramel. Moderate sweet taste with a quite heavy bitter finish. Close to full body, smooth texture, soft carbonation. Delicious, although a bit alcoholic. [33 cl can, enjoyed 2 months before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Ullevål, Oslo]
3.0 0,3 litre Can from Vinmonopolet Hamar. Cloudy orange/ Golden with white head. Malts, hops, bitterness.
3.8 Hazy golden with a white head - Hop aroma with some herbal pine aroma - Malt body with herbal and piney hop flaovur with bitterness - The hop goes into the finish with good bitterness - This was good
3.7 Lukt: Mye humle; skog, mango. Med malt; lakris?, karamell? Smak: Mye humle; mango, pasjon, ananas, litt skog og sevje. Saftig og full av tropiske smaker. Kjempegod.
3.2 Can - not much aroma at all when poured straight from the fridge - tastes of malt and malt and some dank pine - probably too cold to be optimal - don’t mind it didn’t make me gag but don’t love it - lots of malty DIPAs like this around so it needs a point of difference to get me hooked.
3.4 12 oz. can poured to a fest chalice at home showing a clear & bright, orangey/gold color, with a presentable layer of soft white froth, and spots & strands of lacing. The nose was dank, a bit of ripened pit fruit, some citrus, and pineapple. Medium bodied, with okay carbonation, the taste was similar, adding a touch of malty/caramel sweetness along with alcohol presence that resembled a Barleywine boost, and rather modest fruity & earthy bitterness for 70 IBU. Otherwise, a decent DIPA that seemed a bit past prime.
3.5 33cl can from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours hazy orange, with very limited foam. Aroma is nice and citrus. Body is average with good carbonation. Taste is pretty bitter, with some sweetness at first. Finish is fairly long with bitterness.
3.7 0,33l can. Pours cloudy golden with off-white head. Aroma of malt, resin, herbal, citrus, fruity. Taste is malt, caramel, citrus, herbal bitterness, very fruity also. Medium body, medium carbonation.
3.7 Fat. Klar orange med ett smutsvitt skum. Dofter av citrus, grapefrukt och kåda. Smakinslag av citrus, grapefrukt, karamell, tall och persika. Oljig munkänsla.

4.1 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 9/20/2018. Pours crystal clear deep golden/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly crisp/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.5%. Overall this is an awesome DIPA. all around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink with the moderately bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Outstanding Centennial, Chinook, Citra, Columbus, Mosaic, Simcoe profile. Extremely vibrant, juicy, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; great bready malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on West Coast style example. Loved the hop profile as expected.
3.1 Tap at Save our Souls, Bangkok. Poured a hazy medium amber colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is malt, light resin, diacetyl, light citrus, woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a crisp, dry woody hop bitter palate and a lingering floral bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. All about the bitterness and it didn’t really come off. Floral and a little home brew like. I don’t believe that this is what the brewer really intended to brew. I could never order a second.
3.3 330ml can from Bochka (Sviblovo) in Moscow. Pours slightly hazy orange-copper with a medium-sized white head. Aroma is dank hops, resin, soap. Taste is medium bitter, caramel, pine.
3.8 Can. Aromas of grapefruit, citrus zest, and caramel. Think hazy copper/orange color, thick lace. Citrus, caramel, moderate bitterness, grapefruit peel, and overripe fruit. Medium-heavy body. Pretty damn good. Maybe a touch too sweet and malty to really represent the West Coast.
3.6 Can brewed in Ohio from Craft Brewed. Pours a crystal clear deep gold with a finger of foam that dissipates. Honey forward nose with some light caramel, citrus, herbal and lemon notes. Sweet on the palate, with a clean and crisp carbonation touch. A little pith and herbal notes that dry out the finish a bit more, but still some honey sweetness throughout.

3.5 On tap at Q bar and selected store. Medium creamy white head. Very hazy golden pour. Hoppy aroma. Nice bitterness. Well hidden alcohol.
3.6 Sample@Ølfestival København 2018 - pours amber with a white head. Sweet tropical fruity, with some mango, grapefruit, tangerine, pine needles, malty support, resinous hoppy bitter finish.
3.7 33cl Can @ Boxbeers.com, Copenhagen, Denmark. Hazy amber colour with a medium size white head. Aroma is hops, citrus, fruits, pine. Taste is hops, citrus, grapefruit, resin, malt, sweet. Medium body, average carbonation.
4.1 Canned 0,33L. As BrewDog Native Son West Coast Double IPA. Fraught and bright orange dirty color, much lively and bubbly aspect with elegant foamy and creamy head of long duration. Intence tropical and riped fruity aroma, notes of aged orage, orange peel, pine, fresh riped tropical fuity, citrusy, alcohol. Fraught and round alcoholic mouth, medium prickly taste with intence sweet malty and very hoppy palate, floral and citrusy impression, long sweet/bitter riped fruity and orange.
3.4 Hazy dark amber towards copper. Medium head. Aroma of pine and soap. Dry and hoppy taste with some pine and soap. Medium body and lasting bitterness.
3.6 330ml can at home. Pours a deep amber, decent off white head. Good juicy hop aroma, normal west coast style, a little watery. Flavour is about the same, nice easy drinker for the abv. It’s grand but forgettable.
