BrewDog Old World India Pale Ale

BrewDog Old World India Pale Ale

This bottle contains an India Pale Ale from a bygone era. An era of towering sailing ships, burgeoning empires and world shaping beers. This is an ale hand crafted with British malts and English hops to recreate the epic IPAs that were sent on monumental ocean voyages from England to India by sea in the 1800s.

Old World IPA is an attempt by punk post modern Scottish Brewers to pay tribute to a 200 year old odyssey and heritage with a healthy dose of swash-buckling adventure.

3.5 [6828-20140926] 660mL bottle. Funky fruity old apples and mango hints and a lightly mouldy earth aroma. Slightly hazy, orange brown body with a quick foamy white head. Bitter grainy malt and resinous hops flavour has a mild tropical fruit base. Medium body. Good. (7/3/7/3/15) 3.5 (w/ others)
2.9 The beer might be a bit old, but there is little fresh hoppy bitterness. Instead a diffuse body taste dominates the beer. Not bad, but not what I expected from an IPA.
3.6 Bottle. Deep golden colour with an off-white/beige head. Aroma is hop, malt, pine, grapefruit, peaches. Flavour is hop, malt, pine, grapefruit, peaches, grass, alcohol, caramel. Full body. Nice beer.
2.8 Bottle from systembolaget. Fading hops and some caramel and raisins. Pours amber with a small yellow head. Taste has caramel and some fruits. Palate is slick and oily. Overall a decent beer but really no blockbuster.
4.0 66cl bottle @ home from Csak a Jó Sör, Budapest. Body is clear, amber, Head is medium, creamy, off-white, mostly lasting, Nose is honey, pear, light liquor, Aroma is peanut, caramel, alcohol is noticable. Taste is light sweet, medium bitter. Finish is medium lasting, hoppy and roasty bitter. Medium to full body, sticky texture, soft carbonation. Delicious, not very easy, unusual dessert IPA.
3.5 [Bottle (660ml) shared with GregClow, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o j&m] Pours a murky orange-amber with an average size lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma of fruit, light candi sugar, biscuity malt, piney hops and...not sure. Flavour of biscuity malt, piney hops, fruit and a long bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Something a bit odd about this one that I can’t place but either way, it’s good.
3.1 Bottle at home. Pours amber, nose is floral, sweet toffee, taste is dry, toffee, sweet, light fruit.
3.5 2014-09-26. Hazy orange body with a modest beige head. 3++ Aroma is lightly earthy, green vegetation, tropical fruit. Flavour is moderately bitter throughout, modest tropical fruit and mild green hop vegetation Smooth average bodied palate, soft effervescent carbonation. Decent, already showing some signs of age which is disappointing. Bottle, BB Oct 10 2014 from Appelation Wine, Edinburgh.
4.0 Cloudy orange color, average sized white head. Aroma of pine, caramel, roast, fruits. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Peaches and oranges in taste. Very fruity. Medium sweet, medium bitter. Great looks, great body, great scent. Very sexy IPA.
3.7 from Erzbierschof - murky dark amber-orange beer with a moderate foam left; clean aroma of blood oranges and grapefruit; ful-bodied, assertive, velvety palate; light salty and fairly bitter; dry and long hoppy aftertaste of grapefruit and pine needles
3.3 Bottle from Lekker Bier, batch 246 BB 14-10-14, large sample, served in a tulip glass. Slight hazy golden color, short head. Soft aroma of piney and grapefruit hops, some biscuity malts, slight citrus. Not quite fresh enough to properly appreciate the aroma Im afraid. Medium bitter in taste, slight sweet caramel. Seems to be very decent stuff, like the punk IPA, but I should get a fresher bottle.
3.5 Bottle@William K. Opaque amber color, white. Hoppy, barleywine aroma. Bitter, hoppy flavor with honey. Full body, medium carbonation. Interesting.
3.9 Bottle, 0.66l, shared with Yoo. Hazy deep amber color with medium creamy off-white head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of resin hops, citrus, caramel and biscuit malt. Taste starts with moderate sweet caramel malt, follows by refreshing fruitiness with notes of jam, a bit spicy moutheel and medium bitter finish. Medium to full body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Nicely balanced English IPA with well hidden alcohol level...
2.8 Completely flat. The aromas smell a lot like Punk IPA from Brewdog just not as intense. Leaves your tounge dry after tasting. While Punk IPA might be a little bit too much flavor this one has a little bit too litle.
3.5 Bottle, gift from Andrew. Hazy bronze body with a thin white head. Light lacing. Aroma of orange marmalade and caramel. Flavour of blood orange, earth and a faint alcohol burn. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. A decent IPA, though not particularly drinkable for its strength.
3.8 Pour a clear orangey color, topped with decent beige colored head, OK retention. Pleasant fruity aroma, some spices also picked up. The taste starts nice and fruity, followed by some decent bitterness in the finish. Some spices also there. Nice.
3.2 Clear amber liquid with medium white head. Aroma of biscuit, citrus, pine, wood, bread and flowers. Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter
3.5 Bottle 75cl. Dark amber woth an off white head. There is something in the aroma which I can’t identify (maybe orange?). Full rich taste of malt and hops. Different from other IPA’s which are very popular at the moment. Medium carbonized and length.
3.3 Bottle, 66cl. It pours a hazy, orange-golden body under a dense, light beige head. The aroma is quite malty, with citrus peel, pine cones, alcohol, cheesy hops and a touch of caramel in the aroma. Caramel, fruityness, some pine cones and cheesy hops in the flavor. Resins too. Full body and a pleasant carbonation. Lasting finish with a pleasant carbonation. Interesting this one, but rather boring in todays world. 140717
3.3 Bottle 660ml @ geokkjer Pours hazy deep golden/copper with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, grass, floral and herbal. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long malty, caramel and grassy finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.3 Bottle. Pours deep golden with an off-white head. Aroma of herbs, some grass, malt, flour and malt. Flavor is sweet and fruity with some malt, grains, caramel, herbs and caramel. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.3 Keg at BD on da Bush, 01/07/14. Lightly hazed golden amber with a good sized off white head. Nose is earthy hops, bitter orange, bready malts, light spice. Taste comprises orange, orchard fruit notes, caramel, spice, bready malts. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so for style but I guess it fits the historical billing.
3.8 Bottle. Orange with a small head. Not as hoppy as I had expected. Medium body but the lack of hops put me of a bit. Still better than a lot of other beers so why am I moaning. Perhaps my expectations where too high.
