BrewDog Old World Russian Imperial Stout (9.5%)

BrewDog Old World Russian Imperial Stout (9.5%)

Bottle & occasional keg,special
Gently crated by hand in Scotland, this Old World Stout perfectly recreates the imperial beers of years gone by; brewed to the traditional percentage of alc. 9.5% by vol. To avoid freezing during its journey across the Baltic Sea to snowy Moscow.

All full bodied taste, this opulent whirl of hops and malt even rivals the most colourful of imperial faberge eggs.

Originally created to celebrate the Russian royal family, this beer is a fitting tribute with which to toast your own empire.- See more at: http://www.brewdog.com/product/old-world-russian-imperial-stout#sthash.sIclAyxe.dpuf

[The ABV variance is greater than 10% and, as such, warrants a new entry for this beer.]

3.9 Can, Fanzine. Pours very dark brown/black, foamy tan head. Aroma is burnt toast, coffee, fennel, It's quite light for an impy stout, and hides its abv really well. It's dry and roasty, not at all cloying or sweet. Flavour is toasted cereal, some dark fruit, aniseed hint (not overpowering). It's a dry and drinkable stout and rather nice.
4.2 330ml can via Fanzine #13. Pours pitch black with a beige-tan head. Aroma of roast malts, dark fruit, coffee. Taste is rich and malty, roasty, dark fruit, a bit of dark chocolate, hint of liquorice, finish is bitter and roasty, with a bit of alcohol too, lingering bitterness. Full bodied, smooth, creamy, fine carbonation. Probably the best Fanzine beer so far.
4.1 11Oct2018 Intense dark malts, burnt toast, cacao, dark roast coffee, dark, dried, pureed fruit. Hazy, very dark, medium, creamy, beige head. Light bitter. More very dark, toasted malts, burnt toast, charcoal, earthy, soft carbonation, full bodied. Very nice, rich and complex. Can via Fanzine.
4.2 On tap at Brewdog Milton Keynes, we have a gig to attend at Milton Keynes Gallery (Daniel Blumberg) Pours black with a creamy textured light beige head. Really soft in the mouth, some cappuccino, in fact lots of creamy cappuccino. Lovely beer, soft roastiness, a few little boozy aroma tendrils go up the nose via the the back of the mouth. This is one of the best from Brewdog for sometime. A8 A4 T9 P4 Ov17 4.2
4.0 Can from Fanzine. Black and tan with a big bubbly head. Malty chocolate aroma. Stone fruit, coffee, chocolate and malt. An uncomplicated stout, nothing special.
3.6 Pours black, very small head (on the side of a glass). Aroma is roasted, dark chocolate, vanilla, pralines, mild coffee, rasins. Flavor is milk, lactose, creamy, vanilla, stoutish bitter, coffee.
4.0 Keg at BrewDog, Reading. Coffee aroma with a bitter edge. Dark and glossy. Creamy beige head. Initially creamy. Some bitter coffee comes in to play. However the ABV is almost invisible. Thick bodied. Creamy-oily. Flat-soft carbonation. Long astringent finish. Lovely delicate Impy Stout. Could drink it all night.
3.7 Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. A black coloured pour with a healthy beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes similar, slightly roasty, malty, chocolate, some coffee and soy. Decent effort from Brewdog.
4.3 Batch 251 bb: 17-10-2018 Co prawda to jeszcze kilka dni, ale wypadła okrągła #1600 degustacja, to otwieram... Czarne, gęste, nieprzejrzyste. Piana przyjemnie brązowa drobna, trwała, powoli spływa po szkle. W aromacie gorzka czekolada, praliny i kawa, oraz przyjemne nuty likierowe. Najpierw czuć przyjemną słodycz i czekoladowość, potem nuty kawowe, nastepnie daje znać wyraźną paloność. Piwo jest rozgrzewające, nieco wyklejające, dobrze ułożone i ma fajną gorączkę. Nasycenie niskie.
3.6 Danish tasting session; batch 251, bb 17-10-18; Jan 2014 Black color with creamy brown head. Roasted malt aroma, with some chocolate and vanilla, nice. Good body, smooth mouthfeel; the chocolate flavor is also quite good, although it has a bit too much salty liquorice and cardboard. Old style, not bad though.
4.3 super donker bier met donkere schuimkraag. Romige licht gerookte smaakt. karamel , chocolade ..zoek nog naar typische kruiden .. gewoon zalige Russian stout.
3.8 Bottle pours out black topped with a small tan head. Nose is big roast malts coffee chocolate and some fudge notes. Taste is more of the nice big heavy roast coffee and some ash.
BF 171018.
5.0 Bottle 0,66L. Clear black color with big, long lasting, creamy, light brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, brandy, dark fruits (cherry), nuts, some herbal notes, apricot. Medium to big sweet flavour with notes of burnt brown sugar, roast, baking cocoa, faint ash. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Great balance, great depth. Has aged very well.

4.0 Bottle, thanks to I honestly forgot who :/. Pours opaque black, medium tan head, dissipates to a ring with good lacing. Aroma is huge molasses, licorice, roasted malts, dark chocolate. Flavor is light plus sweet, medium bitter, roasty, molasses and baking cocoa, hints of anise. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Excellent old school stout, pure, not sweet and adjunct ridden.

4.1 Bottle at home. Three year old bottle. The colour is deep dark brown to black with a small light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee beans, dark chocolate, smoke, leather, black currants and wood. Has a well-roasted flavour with ash, coffee beans, black currants and very dark chocolate. Has a slick and oily mouth feel, full-bodied, and a light to medium bitterness. A well-balanced and greatly roasted.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a dark brown, blackish beer with a big bubbly tanned head on top. Aroma is rather roasty, hints of chocolate and a fragrance of booze. Flavor is mildly sweet, hints of coffee and chocolate, some roasty notes. A bit dull and mediocre, yet entertaining and no major flaws detected or anything. Just a very decent impy stout, nothing more in my book.
