In collaboration with the awesome Oskar Blues from Colorado, we’ve created this big, twisted 10.5% American style barley wine. With big boozy aromas that’ll swirl round your nostrils and a sweet viscosity that’ll cover your tongue from top to tip, this is a beer for people who enjoy nonsense and walking on tightropes. Even when the Circus packs up and leaves, you’re left with a lingering warmth and bitterness playing in your month. - See more at: http://www.brewdog.com/product/shipwrecker-circus#sthash.e9vrs12U.dpuf

3.5Bottle 330 ml from Amstein - St-Légier (CH). Oily brown beer with a tan head, traces on the glass. Richly mlted flavors, toffy-molasses, dry fruits, apricot, plum pudding, liquor. The taste is similar, round, caramelized and full taste, syrupy and liquor-like. That promises bells and whistle, but it’s cut in its round-up (weighty) by a resinous and citrusy hop. Remains to tame.
3.9Look: dark brown, opaque.
Aroma: toffee, alcohol, sherry.
Taste: moderate to strong sweetness, moderate hoppy bitterness, fruity sourness.
Flavour: prominent mature alcohol (rum, brandy), toffee, citrus and grasy hops, homemade fruit booze ( rachia, palinka), caramel.
Bitter sweet aftertaste.
Good.
3.4Keg @ Busters. Deep reddish Amber with a small head. Nose is pretty citrusy. Orange sorbet. A bit of cherry skin. Caramel. Flavor is hot, sweet and sticky. Caramel and croissant. Hot citrus tanginess. Full body, soft carb.
3.6Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a deep amber with a brown hue and a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet grains and caramel with touches of booze and toffee supporting. Flavor is full of sweet grains with some straw, caramel and booze supporting.
3.9Tap at Busters. Deep orange caramel colored pour. Smaller head. Rich caramel and dark fruit nose with some hop freshness. Similar taste. Rich without being too sweet. Wonderful beer.
3.7Bottle. Dark red/brown. Aroma of caramel, some dried fruit and a bit of pine. Full bodied and a bit chewy with caramel malt, plums and dried fruit, a little bit of booziness but pretty mellow (a few years old now). Bit of piney hop at the very end.
3.6Bottle: Hazy, reddish-amber coloured, small off-white foamy layer; dried fruits - mainly raisins - in the sweet caramelly nose, solid herbal-hoppy background with illusions of cough syrup; almost solid sweet-bitter flavour, really full bodied; traces of warming alcohol in the lingering sweet fruity and bitter finish. Refreshing…
4.2(BrewDog / Oskar Blues Shipwrecker Circus) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a snifter. Thanks to Cuso for sending me this. ABV 10.5%
Dark red brown coloured barley wine with a murky body and a small dark tanned head on top, with good density and average retention.
Aroma of dark fruits, stewed red fruits, heavy on the caramel, alcohol.
Great taste, lots of dark fruits, alcohol, light vanilla, burned candy, caramel, some hoppy notes.
Medium to full body, soft carbonation, warming feeling on the body, sticky on the palate.
Very good.
4.0Ambrata, profumata, pungente, fruttata e con un sentore speziato; gusto dolciastro, fruttato, leggermente acidulo, discretamente bilanciato. Corpo medio, struttura oleosa, un po’ "liscia" ma piacevole.
3.1Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, grapefruity. Pine and solid hoppy. Bitter and crisp hoppy. Dense and pine. Solid dry and bitter. Toffee and malty finish. Solid bitter finish.
3.7330 ml bottle. Pour a dark red/brown with moderate head. Aromas of toffee, sourdough, and sweet toasted malts. Flavors of rye bread, dry caramel, dry resin and pasted malts. Still a bit bitter and harsh. Can sit for a bit.
3.7Bottle. Sensoric. Deep reddish with tiny, light brown head. Poor head retention, medicora lacing. Nice candy-like aroma with some medium caramel and brown sugar notes. Nice, medium fruity notes - berries. Light piney aroma. Taste is medium to high bitter with medicore sweety caramel-like flavours. Full body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, finish is medium bitter. In overall typical american barley wine, slightly unbalance but still solid beer.
4.1Bottle - Deep amber/light brown colour, stable, medium sized off-white head, lacing. Sweet nose with a lots of caramel, raisins, dried fruits, dates, brown sugar and some fresh hoppy scent. Taste of caramel, dark fruits, dates, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, brandy. Full body, soft carbonation, thick texture, nice lingering warm and bitter finish. Not an easy one, very nice beer.
3.1Deep murky chestnut. Aroma of blueberry, blackberry, brown sugar, earth and wood. Flavor of booze, roast, dried fruits. Dark and earthy.
4.2Pours brown red with light beige head. Aroma is fruitcake, berries, chocolate and pine. Flavour is medium to heavy bitter, heavy sweet, fruity and pine.
4.3Nice spruce Hop smell, Dark Brown amber colour, Taste Starts Sweet, Goes slightly coffee and ends with a well rounded bitter Taste that lasts for a bit
3.7Brown-amber color with nice beige head. Spices, malts, hops. American stuff: pines, spruce, caramel, toffee. Taste is dry dark malts, toffee, even coffee-like, with lots of piney hops. Bitter finish. Low carbonation. A very pleasant assault on your senses. 7-4-8-4-16
Bottle, BB 07-10-2018, shared with jonas in October 2016. Slightly oxidized, but still quite hoppy. 7-4-7-4-15
4.0From notes on 6/14/15
Bought a can of this while visiting the Oskar Blues brewery. This is most definetaly an American barleywine. Very hoppy. Almost seems like a sweet double IPA.
3.4Can shared by Cliff. Pours a dark brown with a layer of light tan head. Aroma and taste of malts, fruit, caramel.
4.0Bottle. Probably dark amber color (drinking in the dark) with no head. Aroma - Malts, pineapple, alcohol. Taste - Sweet, spice, alcohol, dark fruit.
3.4330 ML bottle
Dark Mahogany. Rocky light tan head that falls to a thick collar. Leaves spotty lacing. Sticky ABV legs to this.
Nose is bread, caramel, dark fruits, fruit cake, brandy, and brown sugar. Nose is obvious that it has some age on it. Not much booze left in this.
Taste is dark fruit, pine and citrus but still hoppy. Dark fruit and bread in the mid and back. Still quite oily in the mouth. pine and grapefruit finish with some brandy topped dark fruits.
A bit one dimensional at times but pretty decent overall
4.2Brown with cream colour minimal head. Aroma of fruit cake, malts and sugar. Taste gets more bready with some bitterness in the end. Awesome.
3.633cl bottle from Vinmonopolet somewhere in Oslo some time back. Pours dark amber to brown with a beige head. Malty and caramamelly aroma with some hoppy notes, dried fruits, herbs and hints of citrus, spices and alcohol. Sweet, very sweet, but still somehow quite drinkable, and it finishes with a nice bitterness. Rather flavourful and quite a tasty sipper.
4.0330ml bottle from Brewdog shop.
Small cream coloured head, good lacing, body is slightly murky dark brown. Big fruity nose, raisins, treacle, alcohol, pine. Flavour is fruit cake, burnt sugar, booze, surprisingly bitter finish. Great mouthfeel, oily, chewy, light carbonation. Rich, fruity, spicy, this is a big beer.
3.6Barley wine mais leve (apesar dos 10% teor de alcool). É uma boa cerveja, mas com um péssimo custo benefício.
3.2Dark brown body, light brown head. Bit dirty looking, clears a lot when warms. Aroma has sweet cookie dough, raisins and chocolate. When warms, adds some alcohol and yeasty fruits. Flavour is very harsh, much alcohol, some coffee and bit tar.
