Jack Hammer has been single handedly ripping it up for quite some time. Now this IPA, has spawned four hammer head off-springs. Rye Hammer is the fourth of our super-charged hyped up hybrids.
A grapefruit harvest of citrus melts away to sticky roasted caramel and rye warmth, all resting on a malted biscuit backbone. Then ‘The Hammerhead’s trademark bitter finish reasserts its authority.

3.4Can from Vinmonopolet’s BU. Golden body, medium sized, white head. Pine, resin, citrus, grapefruit and some orange flavour. Quite bitter, slightly harsh. Medium to full body. Medium carbonation.
3.7Can in London. A bit richer orange, fair and pale. Small off white foam. Spicy malt and orange. Pretty nice rye IPA, great balance of spicy rye malt with the more straightforward pine and citrus hops. Solid, tasty.

3.88/VI/17 - 33cl can from Bierhalle Deconinck (Vichte) @ home - BB: 10/XII/17 (2017-798)
Clear blond to light orange beer, aery irregular off-white head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lovely smell, very fruity, passion fruit, mandarins, bit malty, grains, some caramel. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, bit grassy, lots of bitter grapefruit, not as fruity as the smell would have you believe it would. Aftertaste: bitter, bit resinous, almost chemical, grapefruit pits, very bitter dry finish. Not a big fan of this one.
3.5DØE. Hazy golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and light hoppy - fruity and citrus. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. 190517
3.8Can. Pours a gold/amber colour with a slight haze and a small off-white head, which soon disappeared. A mixture of hops and malt on the nose, with peaches and a hint of pine. In the mouth there’s smooth, fruity sweetness, which is soon overlaid with a very bitter dryness and a very long, very dry finish. Great balance.
3.5Can. Pours a hazy golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty grapefruit hoppy aroma. Fruity malty spicy grapefruit hoppy bitter flavor. Has a fruity malty spicy grapefruit hoppy bitter finish.
3.0Fruity and fragrance. The same goes for the taste. Okay bitterness that fills the upper and front part of the mouth long while. But for bitter. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.7Tap at BrewDog Tallinn. Hazy amber with thick head. Lovely floral fruity and slightly spicy aroma. Tastes as nice, starts with ripe tropical fruits and continues with bitter citrus, finishing modestly spicy. Soft on the palate, mild carbonation. I love Jack Hammer and this is almost as good.
3.7On tap at Brewdog bar. Pours golden yellow colour. Nice fruity and citrussy aroma. Fruity, juicy, slightly bitter taste. Fruity, bit malty bitter end. Bitterness from the rye. Light bodied, well balanced brew. Fruity and very drinkable.
3.6Tap @ BrewDog, Tallinn. Pours orange with light white head. Aroma is clear, some spices, light grass, some caramel. Taste is rye, some bread, light floral, some caramel, bitter, long and fresh notes. Nice beer!

4.5From tap @ BrewDog Tallinn. Hazy golden liquid with thin white top. Aroma is citrus, pineapple, pine and a hint of malts, aroma is really strong and can be felt even from meters away.
Taste is red grapefruit and tropical fruit mix along with some malt and something sweetish... Rye malts?
A very-very good brew indeed.
3.7DØE. Slightly hazy golden with small white head. Aroma is malt, fruit, hop, rye and citrus. Flavour is malt, fruit, hop, citrus, earthy, medium sweet, little rye, grapefruit and medium bitter.
3.6Citrus aroma in a light gold pour. Laid back hop forward balance to start with a spicy and juicy body closing with a big bitter finish. A very tasty brew.
3.6On tap at Vultures Lane. Pours hazy gold. Grapefruit pith, pepper, some caramel, lots of peach in the middle and then a very bitter finish. Pretty nice, but not my favourite hammer.
3.7Aroma - intense, pleasant and well balanced, with lot of herbal hops, unripe yellow fruits, some resins and tart citrus juice. Taste - lot of herbal hops bitterness, green herbs, some resins, citrus and unripe yellow fruits. Good and very pleasant thanks to its high bitterness.

Hop-dominated aroma, stinky citrussy hops, malts are low, but the piney spiciness that’s there does point to rye. Misty pale orange, tight head settles to a ring. Caramelly malty body, fruity and bitter hopping. Acidity again points to aspects of rye I’m less keen on, but the soapiness indicates that it might be hop acidity too. Medium palate, pleasant carbonation. Finish is a little harsh, bitter and drying, with a resiny bite. A bit APA-ey in places (the Brewdog fingerprint showing), but still relatively drinkable. Doesn’t hide the alcohol, but it’s not objectionable either.
4.3Can at home. Nice beer, but can’t taste the rye! A decent IPA. It’s a lot like Jack Hammer.
3.4Tap @TCBW 2017. Clear amber color. Medium size, white head, stays. Caramel, citrus, floral, grass, sweet, rye and spicy notes in aroma. Citrus, caramel, fruity, grassy, sweet and grainy in taste. Rye and floral hops in aftertaste. Alcohol is covered. Medium bitterness. Nice balance and pleasant in mouth. Solid brew.
3.5Tap at TCBW. Pours golden. Aroma is fruits, citrus, orange. Flavor is sweet and bitter, citrus, orange, maybe some rye. Overall: decent IPA.
3.80.33l can. Pours in golden hazy colour with medium size white head. Aroma of flowers, tomato juice, citrus. Higly bitter, low sweetness, no sourness. Medium body, thick feel, medium lasting pleasant bitter aftertaste.
3.80.3 can. Pours clear golden color with high white, mostly lasting head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, orange, gooseberry. Flavor is medium bitter, light to medium sweet, somewhat salty and sour. Finish is medium long and sourish. Light body, average carbonation.
2.9TCBW 2017. Strong bitter bite. Floral. Where’s rye? Strong. Not very pleasant.
