BrewDog There Is No Santa

BrewDog There Is No Santa

Hark! A limited editon seasonal stout brewed with cocoa nibs and ginger stems.

In the true spirit of Christmas ’cheers’ we at BrewDog have taken it upon ourselves to create a Santas’s little helper for all those battling through the festive season.

Our crack team of elves, penguins and red nose raindeer have been crafting, brewing and perfecting this warming winter stout as a reward for all those driven to the brink and back in the name of Noel.

Now all you have to do is don that customary yule tide sweater and find a roaring open fire to enjoy it by.

In fact this beer is so good, we specifically advise against sharing it with any chimney intruding, night time visitors.

Oh and just remember, this BrewDog’s not for life, it’s just for Christmas.

2.1 330ml bottle, bbe 29/09/12. Appearance is cola-brown with a decent beige head. Aroma is pure gingerbread and christmas spices, not much else. Maybe a hint of roast. I can’t say it’s not pleasant, it’s just that if I wanted to smell gingerbread I’d bake some, not go for a beer. Taste is musty and flat with some roasty malt and christmas spice. Well carbonated but the mouthfeel is thin and watery. Not very good.
3.3 A fun spiced beer. Gingerbread, cloves, warming alcohol. Pretty good Christmas beer.
3.5 Aroma: Smelling of cinnamon buns with Christmas soda. Appearance: The beer is clear brown, with a large slowly rededing tan head that leaves lots of lacing. Taste: The taste is surprisingly not sweet at all, bread, cinnamon, bitter cocoa beans. Palate: Medium carbonation, medium body with small bubbles, a very dry feeling. Overall: Actually a bit unbalanced in it’s lack of sweetness. Note: Bottle. Reviewed 2010-12-02.
3.4 Deep black body with an off-white head. Spicy aroma of ginger, cinnamon (strong!) and malts. Moderately bitter, moderately sweet flavour with distict spicy touch.
3.4 Bottle@Viisi Penniä, Helsinki. Deep brown color, tan head. Strong cinnamon and clove aroma. Spicy flavor with lots of cinnamon and ginger. Medium-light body, medium carbonation. Interesting and not half bad.
4.0 Strong aroma has lots of christmas spices: cinnamon, clove, ginger, syrup. Dark red/brown to black, quite long beige head. Taste has elements from aroma and roasted coffee. Medium body, soft feel, sweet with drying finish. Like a giant hristmas cookie. Quite unusual and fun beer.
3.2 330ml bottle. Dark, almost black color. Small beige head, stays. Cloves, ginger, bready, yeasty aroma. Mild bitter, ginger, cocoa beans, watery flavor.
3.0 Bottle from AP Harvey Wines, Coventry, 18/06/12. 188 shopping days to go. Been a while since I’ve had a Dog so I’m eager to get stuck in. Deep ruby with a slim, blotching tan head. Surprising, Flemish sour edge and caramel aroma with mulled red wine. Heavily mulled taste with ginger and clove; some burnt wood and ill-matched, lingering bitterness. Regurgitated orange juice? Feels more alcoholic than its modest ABV. Ultimately not enough flavour or depth to carry the spices. Did nothing to enhance my mid-June sense of christmasiness.
2.9 The head is robust, the body black. It smells thyme-spicy. The taste is thyme-spicy a bit ginger and herb. Very special one, but for me to much spices. 11/7/7/8/9/8
2.6 Chocolate, spicy, roasty, nuts, herbs, cheese, basement aromas, citrus, basement aromas, citrus

4.0 Botella de 330ml. Copa Tulipa. Saboreada en dic´11. Color caoba oscuro. 330ml bottle. Tulip glass. Enjoyed on dec´11. Dark mahogany in color. Beige, medium bubbled, froth. Close & dense crown with fairly good retention. Ginger, deep clove aromas complemented with hints of cocoa, notes of cinnamon & subtle smokiness. Tea-like without sugar at first sip with black tobacco touch. Bitterness & underlying spicy in the middle. Medium/light body, medium carbonation. Slightly watery finish. Smooth astringency. Dry aftertaste, hues of wood & smoke. I´m not sure if I´ve enjoyed as much as expected but, as usual, these Dogs have definitely shocked me .
3.0 Bottle from brewdog.com. Way way too thin. Quite enjoyable for the flavour but it felt like drinking flavoured water. Still quite nice.
3.6 Bottled, 330ml from Bellingers Garage, Grove, Oxon. Chestnut with cream head. Heady aroma of spices, leading to rather a sweetish, honeyed, smooth malty beer with a lavish dose of ginger. There is a chocolate element but this is smooth and milky. Not a blockbuster but reasonably decent.
3.5 Nice spicy fragrance and flavor with elements of ginger, cinnamon, malt and cloves. Distinct bitterness in the aftertaste, but somewhat thin in the body. A really tasty and spicy Christmas beer!
4.6 rotten eggs, leaves, citrus, herbs, chocolate, coffee, raisin, brown, sparkling, white foam, rocky head, heavy cloying sweetness, medium bitterness, heavily sour, umami, salty, full body, creamy, sticky, flat, average carbonation, bitter, long finish,
3.6 0,33 l bottle from Copenhagen, thx for Malaczki. Very dark red color with medium brown head. Smells like gingerbread that made me christmas mood. Spicy taste with ginger and some cocoa, medium carbonated, moderate bitterness at the end. I loved it.
3.6 great BIG merry christmas beer with loads of spices. medium mouthfeel. dark colour with a tan medium head. Round and sweet slightly bitter end
4.1 An amazing beer with an overwhelming taste of cinnamon. Thin in texture yet close to completely black in colour. A special and very unusual beer, and one you can actually enjoy again and again throughout an evening.
2.8 One of the strangest brews I’ve ever tasted, this is a style on its own... Very dark brown body, medium off-white head. The CI N N A M O N in the nose is overwhelming and a bit shocking. Otherwise the balance is nice and interesting. More cinnamon, anisette, salty licorice, cola. Moderately sweet followed by a moderate but lasting herbal bitterness. Light to medium mouthfeel. Definitely interesting and worth a try, but it’s just not to my liking - someone else might love it.
3.5 Pours a very dark brown colour with an off-white head. Aroma is spicy with cinnamon and cardamom coming out most along with chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is also spicy with some choc and roastiness coming through. Quite nice.
3.4 Bottle 33 cl . A clear red brown colour with a high, good lacing, beige head. An aroma of malt, caramel, ginger and cinnamon. The taste is heavy sweet and medium bitter. A medium body, oily texture, average carbonation and a medium long spicy duration.
3.3 Quite good beer with an interesting taste. A little different than most christmas beers and thankfully not as sweet. Not overly impressed by the aroma or the palate, but the taste was definitely ok.

3.2 0.33 l bottle, thanks hanniku! Dark reddish brown. Strong sweet clove, cinnamon and cocoa aroma. Spicy bitter flavor with clove, cinnamon, ginger and licorice. Very spicy, nice christmas cookie aroma, but the flavor would need more backbone and body.
2.7 Small bottle. Dark brown body, minimal head. Herbal aroma with a light touch of ginger. Thin palate. Taste is herbal too, with some cough syrup but no alcohol warmth to follow, which in this case would have made it better.
2.8 Dark cola colouredn body, light brown head. Aroma of cola, cinnamon. Flavour has some cinnamon, mint, herbs, oregano and basil. Thin and quite light.
3.0 Bottle. Very dark amber colour with a light brown head. Strong aroma of cinnamon and other spices. Tastes like a christmas cider. Dry on palate. Medium thin texture.
