Keg and bottled, series The unsung heroes, the foot soldiers of the revolution. We owe a huge debt to the billions of tiny yeast cells that work tirelessly to ferment sugars into alcohol and CO2. But yeast isn’t just here for the grunt work. Yeast has the power to change the flavour, aroma and complexion of your beer in an instant. This series is designed to showcase the impact different yeasts have on the same base beer.
This series of 4 beers gives the limelight to four totally different yeast strains: Belgian Trappist, Pilsen Lager, American Ale and Bavarian Weizen. All 4 beers have been brewed to the same ABV using a blend of Centennial and Amarillo hops and a backbone of Pale Ale, Munich and Cara Malts.
Malts: Maris Otter, Crystal Malt, Caramalt
Hops: Centennial, Amarillo
Twist: Each beer is identical except for the different yeast used to ferment the beers creating 4 radically different beers from the same starting point

3.3Bottle, 6.3%. Clear amber/orange with medium off-white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, fruit, hop, citrus and a little grapefruit. Flavour is malt, caramel, fruit, medium sweet, hop and a little bitter.
3.1Bottle. Notes of strawberries, grapefruit and herbs. Also some buttery bock like notes.
3.5Aroma: Smelling of bread, pear, grass and yeast.
Appearance: A clear amber colored beer. A off-white head with good lacing and good curtains.
Taste: Tasting sweet, bread, orange marmalade and citric peel.
Palate: Medium carbonation, a soft texture. A medium body with a slightly dry finish.
Overall: Very aromatic and pleasant for a lager.
Note: Bottle 330 ml at home. Reviewed 2014-06-20.
3.1Bottle from the four pack.
Lots of butter in aroma and taste. Quite bitter. Dosn’t realy showcase the yeast.
3.9Clear orange color, short lasting head which leaves a small but lasting lacing.
Aroma is mostly hoppy, though not as hoppy as any IPA by BrewDog would be. The taste is quite good, although I expected a bit more.
On palate it just feels lacking.
On overall it’s quite good lager, but I would not buy it for most of the time.
Normal, refrescante.
3.033CL bottle at home, orange beer with a medium head, aroma is citrus, taste is citrus and pilsener like. This one is meh.
3.615.02.2014, 0,33l bottle @ hotel room in Halden:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly fresh, light malts, hops, fresh leafs, sap, sugar. Taste is slightly sweet, caramel malts, sap, fresh leafs, hops, grass, hints of bark. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Nice enough.
3.4Draft @ BrewDog Edinburgh.
Sweet caramel, floral hops, honey.
Clear yellow golden with tiny head. Tiny lasting.
Moderate sweetness, honey, and moderate bitterness.
Finish is hoppy and bitter. Watery texture. Average carbonation.
3.2Golden color with sticky thin head. Hoppy fruity aroma alot more like a pale ale. The taste is similar with only very subtle yeast notes.
3.3Bottle. Aroma mostly American hops, very light yeast background. Clear orange colour. Taste is mostly hoppy, with weak malt backbone and again very light yeast in the background. The yeast failed to present itself significantly, which is predictable.
3.1330ml bottle from Brewdog.com. Medium bodied, fruity, fresh, sweet-tasting not dissimilar to some of the new tropical-fruit esque single-hop IPAs I’ve tasted from Brewdog recently. Alright.
3.2Botella de 33 cl, en tienda XXXII. Color dorado. Sabor a malta, muy ligeramente citrico y dulce, suave.
2.5How: Bottle.
Where: Systembolaget, had at home.
Appearance: Clear golden colour with a white head.
Aroma: Citrus, yeast, fruit.
Body: Medium body and carbonation.
Flavour: Sweet malt, grass, some caramel, a hint of alcohol.
3.2Bottle shared @ weekly tasting with Dutchdrebus, Thompson and Ansjelaah. Clear almost fluorescent orange color, small white head. Nice aroma of lightly malts, hops, lightly fruity. Taste malts, moderately bitter but a touch of sweetness at the same time, lightly fruity. Average body and carbonation.
3.2Bottle @benzai. Clear golden color with a white head. Smells and tastes hoppy, sweet, fruity, malts. Low carbo.
2.4Medium/small head... clear orange colour... smell old water malty yeasty flat... taste watery little sweet...
3.1Bottle @ benzai. Clear golden colour with a small to medium sized off-white head. Smells fresh, slightly fruity, malts, slightly hay. Tastes sweetish, malty, a bit meh.. Like a sweet pilsener with low carbo. Thin to medium body.
3.0Clear golden color with a small white head good lacing - Aroma is malty, honig, floral hops hints of citrus - Aroma is malty and floral - Light body, light/medium bitterness, soft carbonation, dry & crisp, dry floral bitter finish- Too soft carbonation, decent but not amazing
3.5Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is a golden beer with a sweet malty and floral fruity flavour, warming earthy notes and bitter hop finish.
3.4Keg at BD Shepard’s Bush. Clear dark orange coloured pour with a big lasting off white froth. Aroma is sweet honey nut malt and earthy hop. Some dried fruits in the nose as well. Flavour is homey, unrefined sugar and nutty malt. Somewhat under attenuated. Finish is earthy hops and twigs. Slightly sticky sweet palate. Tasty enough.
2.8Butelka 0.33L. Barwa ciemnozłota, wpadający w bursztyn. Piwo klarowne, przygaszone. Piana w kolorze złamanej bieli, średniopęcherzykowa, szybko dziurawi się i znika.
Piana najsłabsza z całej serii a barwa chyba najciemniejsza.
Aromat: miodowy, chmielowy, słodkie dojrzałe owoce, mango, marakuja, biszkopt, toffee i lekko wyczuwalny alkohol. Z butelki również wyczuwalny karmel.
Smak: palony cukier, miód i trochę chmielu ale mniej niż w pozostałych trzech z serii UTY. Słodkie z niewielką goryczką, niezbalansowane i dość nudne. Ogólnie za słodkie i płaskie, miodowe.
Wysycenie średnie-, ciało średnie+. Najsłabsze z serii ale faktycznie profil od drożdży dość czysty, które niewiele od siebie wnosiły.
3.3Bottle. Pretty orange-amber color. Fine head. Malty nose, I get the pilsner aspect, light citrus hops. Flavors of orange, lemon, grass, light caramel, nicely bitter. Decent flavor. Quite bitter, and bit dirty in the finish. Decent enough.
3.2Aroma: sweet, honey, malt.
Taste: very sweet, malt, a little bit of hop.
Very different from your average mass market lager (or any lager for that matter). A-typical. Much better than Brewdog’s Fake Lager
3.1Bottle from Brewdog shop. Amber color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, hops, malts, toast and caramel. Bitter finish with hops, citrus and toast. Good pils.
2.24-pack of the yeast series. The four beers (american ale, bavarian weizen, belgian trappist and pilsen lager) are all ok but more of an interestibg experiment than great beers.
2.7Flaska, ebest från SB. Bärnstensfärgad med stort kolsyrigt lätt smutsvitt skum. Dofter och smaker av blomster, citrusmarmelad och vitt bröd. Alkoholen tränger (alltför) starkt igenom i smaken. Fyllig kropp.
