North East Scotland meets North East USA in our BrewDog Vs Cloudwater showdown.
This New England IPA is low in bitterness but loaded with explosive fruit flavour. Redolent with tropical fruit notes, fresh squeezed orange juice, pineapple, fragrant cut grass, and hints of pine dust, the aroma is complex and alluring. On the palate, the bittersweet balance emphasises the sweet, juicy fruit character, while the addition of oats adds a silken mouthfeel, giving the beer a full and rounded finish. If it wasn’t for the subtle bitter edge and the slight hint of alcohol warmth, you’d swear you were drinking juice.

3.7Can, Goblet. Misty dark yellow body, off white head. Juicy aroma, sweet stone fruit salad. Sweetish, smooth fruity-hoppy taste, lightly herbal. Bit muddled, undefined, but quite nice!
3.9Cloudy, yellow-orange color with a small white head. Nose of tropical fruits, a little funky. Taste is overripr to rotten tropical fruits, sweet and a nice bitterness.
3.7Can from Tesco. Pours a very hazy orange colour. Lots of tropical fruit - pineapple, mango, orange. Nice bitter finish with notes of pine grapefruit and a good mouthfeel. A decent New England Pale Ale.

4.0Pineapple, grapefruit, grass skirt time.
3.8Hazy pale gold / deep straw, with a frothy white head and fruity aroma of citrus and tropical fruit. Fruitiness is the key to all of this really, it's a real cocktail of flavours, with a nice hop bitterness and some notes of pine thrown in to balance it all out, with a hint of tart fruit coming through in the finish
3.4440ml can from TESCO: BB 4th Jun 2021. Drank at home on 8th Mar 2021. Hazy orange body, white topping. Fruit cocktail aroma and taste with a citrus front and a slight bitter finish.
3.544 cl can (BBD 2021-02-10), bought from Tesco, drunk at home 2021-02-20.
Appearance is a hazy deep gold with a moderate thickness but quite irregular white head that disappears at a moderate rate. Small amount of visible carbonation. Yep, that's a NEIPA. Like the colour, wish the head were a little more persistent.
Aroma is, unsurprisingly, heavy on the tropical fruit. Mango and passion fruit, with that sweeter hint that's almost reminiscent of vanilla. There's also a definite core of sweet citrus - orange I think. Classic nose profile really.
Taste is pretty good. Slightly less fruit than the nose actually - bit more balanced. Some orange, some passion fruit, touch of something else maybe? Beneath that, there's actually a welcome hint of some malt - maybe biscuit? Unsurprisingly mellow but surprisingly dry bitterness on the finish.
Palate is good. Nicely creamy - thanks oats - and medium-full bodied at the front with a small amount of in-mouth carbonation, giving way to a cleaner, juicier and surprisingly long finish.
Overall, this is a pretty classic NEIPA. I must have drunk similar ones from twenty different breweries these past few years, but it's a pretty good one. Definitely worth picking up if you can't find something more unusual.
3.544 cl. can. A hazy yellow coloured beer with a white head. Aroma and glavour of malt, hops, citrus, pine needles, grapefruit and with a bitter finish.

3.6Lattina. Il naso riconosce impressioni di luppolo. L'olfatto viene stimolato in maniera molto elevata, permanendo in modo apprezzabile. Il cappello di schiuma resiste abbastanza. La grandezza delle bollicine è medio-fine. Il liquido si presenta velato. Il colore è giallo dorato brillante. Il corpo è strutturato. L'amaro è deciso. La forza gustativa è elevata e la durata è buona. Il gusto è piacevole. Le sensazioni boccali finali risultano luppolate. Il retrogusto è intenso. Sul palato si riportano indizi di miele, frutta secca, luppolo, resina, pino, agrumi, pompelmo, ananas, frutta tropicale, mango, terra, uva spina, pesca sciroppata, mandarino e pesca a pasta gialla.
3.644 cl. can at home. Bought at Menu Hellerup. High fluffy lasting white head. Hazy dark yellow body. Dusty sweet grapefruit lemon aroma. Powerful and dry grapefruit flavor with a good deal of hops bitterness, low carbonation and a long bitter finish.
3.3Easy smooth drinker. Initially expected more from reviews here and online but grew on me after first sup. I thought - not another fruity IPA but lighter and fluffier. Short dry finish for me. Orangey tangerine. No head really which I would’ve liked bit more. Liked it more than score suggests but it brought up what it brought up when I rated individual aspects. Hides strength just now as I sip it but I’ll see once I’ve finished it - lol. orange rind in there . Yup really hid alcohol and very smooth. Like freshly squeezed orange juice.
3.6Can .An unclear yellow beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of citrus fruits, hops, pine needles, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, citrus fruits, pine needles, and malt, leading to a bitter finish.
3.6Solid high %
3.2Can.Hazy yellow colour medium off white head.Aroma of grass and pine juicy with medium body and fresh finish.
3.7Can from Isetan. Wheat, fruity nose, apricot, orange juice, bit of resin. Lightly hazy bright gold with a tall head. Nice hops, resins and citrus, light tropical. Good one. Not too sweet or overdone. Dry, crisp finish.
3.3Sehr gutes NEIPA. Leider ein Schuss zu viel Hopfenbitterkeit, die die milde Fruchtigkeit leider etwas zu sehr verdrängt.
4.1From a brewdog advent calendar. Lovely aroma of citrus, lemon, malt and hops. 6.8% but yet light , hoppy , fruity. Just the right amount of hops to malt. Awesome beer. Very quaffable.
3.5440ml can at home. Pours a hazy orangey yellow with a medium white head. Nose is mild tropical fruit, some mango, slight bit of cheddar. Flavour is mango, pineapple, apricot, cheddar.

3.7Fruity with passion fruit and mango. Somewhat bitter but mostly balanced. Interesting salty finnish
3.7Was glad to find this collaboration at Isetan, was even more pleased at the 800¥ for 440ml price.
Brewdog x Cloudwater New England IPA 6.8%
Lighter in color than the Modern Times but equally pretty looking haze. Sharply fruity aroma with juicy fruit like notes. Medium to light in body, fairly dry. Fruity sharp but pretty balanced. not as over the top as the Alien Radio I had earlier tonight. Pretty good for 4-5 months old (canned in July).
3.8Pours a hazed golden with white head. Tropical and pine hop aroma and taste.
Notes: tall boy can from Edeka, Nov ‘20
