Brick Waterloo Dark

Brick Waterloo Dark

Looks dark, tastes light. It’s Ontario’s favourite dark lager. A dark beer that is slowly brewed with Canadian grown malted barley, specialty coloured malts, imported hops and pure cultured brewers yeast. Dark lagers are enjoyed all year long, and they’re not as filling as ales. Waterloo Dark will cut some of the heaviness in sauce-based meat dishes. Waterloo Dark is an equally perfect beer to go with appetizers suitable for watching sports games, or used as an actual ingredient when preparing a meal. Experience what this great dark "light tasting" lager has to offer and why it has won multiple awards at the World Cup of Beer, Canadian Brewing Awards, Ontario Brewing Awards and the Monde Selection International Institute For Quality Selections.

3.2 This canned brew from a bottle shop was served at a cool temperature and poured a head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a very softly carbonated body semi-opaque dark brown colored body and a poor lacing. The weak aroma was brown malt. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish malt hop aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of mild dough mild hops and brown malt. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.
2.7 Black in color and not too heavily carbonated. It has the look and consistency of a cola. The head is not too heavy and dissipates quickly. A hint of roasted grain. Not very strong tasting for a dark beer. No aftertaste. It lacks a certain bite to it but enjoyable if you like a light tasting beer.
3.2 Can. Clear dark copper-amber body, medium beige head with ok retention. Aroma of caramel, grains, metallic notes, blueberry jam. Taste of grains, herbs, light nutty notes, some burned sugar. Not bad.
2.3 Appearance: Darker brown. Nearly opaque. Ring of off white foam Nose: medium roasted malts with candy sweetness. Hints of hops. Taste: Initially a little roasty and sweet. caramel and roast nuts. Watery and brief Body: Medium to lighter Parting thoughts: a fair amber lager. Discount shelf. About right.
3.2 A chocolate fudge brown with a light beige head. A floral perfumey chocolate aroma with a light body featuring roasted oats and fudgey chocolate. OK.
2.6 Pours dark brownish amber with a big beige head. Aroma is chocolate, malt and hops. Taste is a watered down version of the aroma. Not a bad beer, but was kinda disappointed with flavour.
3.0 Can I just say toast and caramel and park my rating here? Dark pour, large head. Easy drinking and clean, slightly bready, chestnut, caramel, toasted malt. Lighter for the style.
2.8 Tasting at Ferris’, can Dark chestnut color, clean, with small head. Lean, smooth, not too dry, with mild caramel aroma and flavor, the bitterness is a bit on the low side. Clean, but somehow bland, like most beers in the style.
3.0 Can - Transferring old data. An interesting beer with notes of roasted malt and chocolate.
3.5 Can - Dark malts and some nice toffee. Clear brown with a decent light brown head. Toast and some caramel notes
2.6 bottle @ The Andersons / Columbus OH --- Opaque brown/black color, thin ivory head cover, stripes of lace. Taste is watery caramel malt that is run over by crisp carbonation on the swallow, moving from there to light bittering to finish. Not a lot to it.
3.4 Rich dark amber in color that has a thick frothy head that never completely diminishes. Has a light hoppy scent with a hint of spiced malt. Taste is a medium bitter hop with a light malty finish. Goes down very light for a dark beer.
3.5 Can. Brown body, opaque, with a medium light brown head. The aroma is licorice, with a nice ale hop touch. The taste is strong of licorice, salty with a full malt finish. Very pleasant!
3.6 Bottle. Chocolate syrup, malt, and herbal hay aroma. Dark brown with large light tan head. Sweet chocolate, roasted barley, and mildly bitter hay and ash flavor. Good body. Kind of dark for a Vienna - seems more like a dunkel in both appearance and flavor.
3.5 Bottle: Pours dark, ruby-lit brown/black with a frothy beige head. Dark, roasty caramel, chocolate aroma. Flavour is roasted and rich....slightly black-pepper accented caramel malt..chocolate, cola.....maybe even a slight whiff of smokiness. Light, but not watered-down... Curious about the low ratings on this....I thought it was a bit dark for the style, but pretty tasty.
2.9 Can in Toronto. Pretty typical dark lager (per ’schwarz’ over in SEE), lighter brown-black body, clear. Light sipper, clean with some caramel and roast. Ok.
3.2 12 oz bottle. Nice smooth feel, judge right amount of soft carbonation, and good looking, with a large pillowy head. The aroma is only acceptable but the flavor is fine. Good dark lager.
2.7 473 ml can. Full transparency, I don’t know how long this has been in my fridge. Pours a clear, light, nutty brown with a large beige head. Aromas were bread and chalk. Tastes are grainy, roasty, and on the dry side. Light bodied with a short, mild tinny finish. Not offensive but not much in the way of character either, it is a lager after all.
3.2 Very dark ruby red-brown colour with a tan head. Good retention and moderate lacing. Aroma of toasty nuts & earthy. Tastes of bread with a trace of nuts and caramel. Medium body & carbonation. Just ok.
3.0 Sweet aroma of caramel and dark roasted malt. Clear mahogany colour. Sweet front with short bitter finish; more malt and caramel flavour. Light body with high carbonation. More interesting than the average typical lager.
3.7 Enjoyable drink. Nice smell. sweety taste. However, it needs something more intense, I assume.
4.2 Solid. Very solid. Surprisingly sprightly in mouthfeel. But the malt presence is always there, and abundantly flavorful.
3.0 Had tried the pilsner and kolsch by the same brewery and was heavily disappointed in both, so when I poured this I was surprised by my immediate positive response- beautiful tan head and immediate nice chocolate and fig aromas. Heavy black body and fitting thick mouthfeel. Very sessionable, heavy mouthfeel.
2.4 Transfer from BA review on 12-30-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a dark brown nearly black color with a one finger tan colored head. The head fades relatively quickly to leave a light level of lacing and a rather persistent film. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a roasted malt mixed with a lighter sweetness of caramel and some corn. Taste – The taste begins of roasted malt and a sweet caramel taste. As the taste advances it seems to sweeten even further as some sweet corn malt flavors get more pronounced. The flavor takes on an almost cola like flavor with the mix of sweet corn and roast. A very light coffee flavor comes to the tongue at the end of the taste and when combined with the rest leaves a rather odd mix of sweet and roasted malt. Mouthfeel-The body of the beer is on the average to just below average side in terms of its creaminess with a carbonation level that was rather average. While a darker brew, which is normally nicer with a creamier body, this beer actually seemed to do better with the thinner body and higher carbonation as it matched the more soda like flavor. Overall – Well… it was a little too sweet and cola like in flavoring for me. Not bad if that is what you want from a beer, but not something that I personally really enjoyed.
Fiche technique Style: Amber Lager/Vienna Format: 473 ml Taux d?alcool: 5%
2.5 Can. Clear dark amber-brown pour. Lightly malty aroma, some dark candied fruits and grains. Flavour is sweet and malty, some serious notes of grape juice. Light and easy, sweet, not altogether repulsive. But not what I want to drink.
3.1 Served chilled in a shaker. Hazy, dark brown body with a tan/creme head. Head was quick to dissipate, cutting off the freshly painted coffee shop aroma. Beer has a nice light body with only mild carbonation and a long, slightly bitter tail. The beer’s flavour is very basic - slightly bitter take on a traditional lager. Overall an average beer, good choice for party goers with a preference for dark beers that aren’t filling.
