Bridge Road / Nøgne Ø Aurora Australis

Bridge Road / Nøgne Ø Aurora Australis

In Norwegian tradition alcoholic beverages are sent across the globe to benefit from the temperature variations one experiences when crossing the equator. This beer was brewed at Bridge Road Brewers in Beechworth, Australia. Maturation took place in red wine barrels on its journey to Norway. Blending and packaging was carried out by Nøgne Ø.

Editor’s note: Brewed at Bridge Road, bottled at Nøgne Ø. Shipped to Norway in barrels previously used for red wine.

3.7 Gusher, though that may have been my fault. Big, pillowly tan head, deep dark brown. Nose is definitely a lot of red wine, red fruit, musty grapes, slightly lactic? This is supposed to be a clean beer I think, but it certainly smells a little funky. Flavor is rich plum, red wine, lots of oak, stewed fruits, but also lightened by a bit of horsey funk, clovey esters, a little tart as well. Finish is not as heavy as you would think, lightened by the tartness. Either this has soured or it was meant to be this way, but either way I'm liking it. Very complex, lots of dark quad flavor but a bit lighter from the funk and sourness. Delicious, love the red wine character, wonderful at almost on 5 years.
4.1 Bottle BB 20.12.2017. Aroma is red wine malts dried fruits barrel some hints of caramel. Taste is is malts dried fruits caramel hints of umami. Aftertaste is nice balanced. Nice one.
4.1 250ml bottle. Bit of age on it, imported to NZ in July 2013 so a bit older than that. Pours black. Dried figs, brown sugar, dried cherry, biscuit, toast, raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, sour cherry, prunes, marzipan, chocolate, molasses, oak, sweet red fruit finish. Bit of booze to it. Certainly a little oxidation but I think it integrates well. Medium body with quite high carbonation. Absolutely delicious.
4.3 Kicsi, tartós, bézs hab, sötétbarna szín. Halványan édeskés, vörösboros, aszalt gyümölcsös, szilvás illat, némi fahordós beütéssel. Édeskés, karamelles, sötét és aszalt gyümölcsös, vaníliás, fahordós, vörörsboros ízvilág. Testes, a gyümölcsössége miatt mégis könnyedén csúszik, közepesen szénsavas, enyhén keserű.
3.9 Sit in front of a fire and contemplate life. Wow. Aromas of muscat. Sweetness but not at all sickly. Savour; you're lucky to be drinking this.
4.1 (Bottle) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby. Lasting beige head. Fruity, malty nose with dark fruit, cherries, caramel, chocolate, orange peel, black rye bread and hints of red wine. Malty, fruity, slightly tart taste with notes of cacao, dark chocolate, sour cherries, red fruit, blood-orange, liquorice, black rye bread, oak wood, red wine, spicy hints of tamarind and a tart, vinous finish with a balanced bitterness. Almost full body, with a touch of sweetness. Quite complex, with both chocolate, caramel, red wine, cherries and a slight sourness. Still in very good balance, and really tasty. Excellent beer.
4.4 25cl bottle at home. Enormous gusher. Dark reddish brown with a full off-white head. Medium to full body with low to moderate carbonation. Well balanced complex bitter and sweet brew. Oak, raisin, wine, red fruit, vanilla and grapes. Very good.
4.6 Piana obfita, sycząca, długo utrzymuje się w postaci pierzynki. Spory gushing przy otwieraniu. Barwa brązowa, mętna, nieprzejrzysta. W aromacie zdecydowana beczka, intensywne czerwone wino, taniny, winogrono, w tle rodzynki, figi, kandyzowane owoce i karmel. Smak odwrotnie, najpierw słodki, likierowo wyklejający, miodowy, melasowy, quadruplowy, po chwili dochodzą nuty kwaskowe, winne, taniczne a całość uzupełnia średnia do niskiej, migdałowo ziołowa goryczka. Wysycenie wysokie do średniego, drobne, lepkie, pełne i treściwe w odbiorze z ładnie wkomponowanym, rozgrzewającym alkoholem. Piwo w połowie drogi między Nøgne Ø Quadrupel Red Wine BA a Alvinne Cuvée De Mortagne - zdominowane beczką, czerwonymi owocami, winem i taninami, aczkolwiek w tle to nadal pierwszorzędny Quad, zwłaszcza w smaku i fakturze. Klasa!
Smak to w zasadzie odzwierciedlenie aromatów - słodkie suszone owoce z śliwką, rodzynką i figą, trochę tanin, ziołowa goryczka podkreślająca całość, pod koniec wyszły owocowe klimaty w stylu dojrzałej czereśni i wiśni, ciemne słody, wszystko oczywiście przeplatane beczką i tą figowo-winną nutą. Alkohol w ogóle nie wyczuwalny, tylko przyjemnie grzeje. Niesamowity quad.
3.8 Bottled. Pours deep amber with a small beige head. Aroma of toasted caramel, dried fruit, red grapes and grapes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry with bitter notes. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice Barely indeed. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
4.4 Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Genialne bogactwo smaku i aromatu. Masa czerwonych owoców i beczki po winie, figi, czekolada. Masakra.
4.3 brown colour, largwe, though quickly collapsing beige head; aroma of apple, chocolate, vinegar notes, raisins, plum jam, caramel and some dried sour cherry; taste of dark chocolate, plum jam, dried sour cherry and raisins soaked in cognac, some red wine notes and hints of balsamic vinegar;definitely not a usual quadrupel, but really enjoyable
3.8 Shared with bartlebier. 1000 takk! Aromas of dried fruits and alcohol. Malty sweet but dry wood aged pleasant high-alcohol Ale. Not the typical Abt but a nice beer with interesting aging story.
4.4 Bottle at home, bottled 20.12.12, #02343. Small gusher. Deep brown colour, creamy and stable beige head. Rich vinous notes immediately fill the nostrils, alongside ripe apples, dried fruits, brandy, apple pie, burnt caramel, earthy. Great complexity tastewise as well, nicely porto-vinous, fruity, sweet and bitter; quite alcoholic. Lingering ripe apple, vinous aftertaste. Good body, medium carbonation.
1.6 Nothing like the sibling the Borealis. Wine taste from the barrels put me right off, was expecting a lot after tasting Borealis.
3.8 Kolor: ciemnomiedziany, zmętniony. Piana: bardzo obfita, drobnopęcherzykowa, dość trwała. Zapach: sporo aromatów beczki, wanilii, drewna, czerwonego wina, ciemnych owoców, melanoidyn, aromatów opiekanych, karmelu, lekki alkohol. Smak: wyraźna pełnia, gładkie, sporo nut beczkowych, drzewnych, lekko taniniczny, wyraźne nuty ciemnych owoców, trochę melanoidyn, nut opiekanych, niska goryczka, dość wyraźny alkohol, przyjemnie rozgrzewający. Wysycenie: bardzo wysokie, przegazowane.
4.3 Dark burgundy color. Sweet and sour notes in the aroma, the wine barrels leaves its mark. Taste is just wonderful with a complex, vinous taste. Some sweet tastes of honey that lingers on during the long, warm finish. Amazing Abt/Quad!
4.2 butelka, warka... bylo wiecej niz jedna? warka z 20.12.12 do 20.12.17, batch 866B - cokolwiek by to nie znaczylo. Sliczna i bardzo wysoka piana, opadajaca dosc powoli, dlugo trzymajaca sie gesta, kremowa warstwa pol cm. Samo piwo nieco metnawe, czerwonawo-miedziano-brazowe. Aromaty dosc intensywne. Owoce ciemne, zarowno swieze (wisnie, czeresnie) jak i suszone (rodzynki, figi, sliwki). karmel. melasa. ciut wanilii. lekko funky. winne. jakies nutki ciemnych slodow w strone kawy. ciut jakichs przypraw. fajna, bardzo zlozona i bardzo ladnie ulozona ta aromatyczna paleta. a w ustach jej powtorka :) do tego lekka kwaskowatosc, lekka slodycz, lekka goryczka, przyzwoita pelnia, srednia ale wyrazna lepkosc. ciut tanin. Jakbym mial to w stylach ujac, to quad z nalecialosciami winnego flandersa - taki rodzimy napoj australijski z aborygenskimi korzeniami, jak nic ;) super ukryty alkohol, lekko rozgrzewa i moze ciut daje takiego poszczypywania w ustach. jednym slowem: ekstraklasa. Zarazem ciekawe, na ile marketing czlowiekowi percepcje zryl? choc skoro skutecznie zryl, to w czym problem? ;) Ocena potraktowana skryptem do przeliczania ocen (uzgodnienie UT/RB). Rami Rami is drinking an Aurora Australis by Bridge Road Brewers at Kamienica Hoża 41 Taster Ale fajnie wykipialo i skwasnialo. Bez ocenki ale i bez tragedii mimo zjebananania sie jakostam usrednie / zracjonalizuje
4.0 Cheers to bergstaden for this one. At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Cola brown to black in the glass. Big plume of foam rises and settles a tight, silky dollop of tannish cream. Aroma is dominated by notes of tawny Port, seaweed, muscatels and rye bread (?) with just a little vanilla, cocoa, earth and cellar must. The aroma fades quickly. Very much a glass of red wine in a dark ale. Plummy, astringent finish gives a bit of a pucker to the mouth. Smooth and silky in feel otherwise. Warming swallow but not hot. Aside the vinous notes it reminds me of a well-made Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte with cherries, chocolate and cream. Mmmm, liquid dessert - sweet, savoury, sour, tart. Carbonation is very soft to foamy. This is a tasty slow-sipper. Really packs a punch and has enough complexity and balance 4 years down the track. Impressive as I expected it to be!! (Brewed 20/12/12, 25cL)
3.6 250 l bottle at home. Dark brown to black with some red notes color and beige head. Malty aroma, dark dried fruits, licorice, caramel, tart fruity too - berries, vinous, wood, alcohol. Sweet and bitter taste, alcoholic. Medium oily body with soft to average carbonation.
3.8 Pours deep brown wirh an overflowing brown head. Aroma is tart berries, slight citrus. Taste is red berries, slight red eune, tart red berries, oak, molasses.
4.0 Small frothy beige head. Virtually none lacing. Mostly diminishing. Sparkling thick flat dark brown body. Aroma: red wine, blackberry and light malt. Initial flavor: moderate sweet and light astringent. Final flavor: light sweet and moderate astringent; long duration. Also tastes like blackberry. Palate: medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation and moderate astringent finish. Reminded me of Gouden Carolus Classic. Stands out from the average. Gueuze-like sourness. Being stored in wine barrels gave it quite a vinous character. Sediments at the bottom of the glass. 200s USD19

3.2 Bottle @ Don’t want anything to do with carnaval tasting. Opaque brownish color, average sized beige head. Smell and taste malts, a touch of port and red wines, fruitpeel-bitterness. Ok body and carbonation.
3.9 Bottle @ benzai’s carnaval. Brown colour with a small off-white head. Smells mint, oak, toothpick, dark malts. Tastes roasty, oak, wood, red fruits, cherry peel. Medium body, soft carbo.
3.9 January 26, 2016. Bottle, brewed December 20, 2012. Slow gusher, dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is sweet caramel, vinous, woody, hints of tart berries, grape skins, some prunes, figs, light spicy. Taste is sweet malty, vinous, light sour. Finish is sweet fruity, malty with caramel, figs, prunes, vinous, light sour, some grape skin and light dry woody notes. Medium to full bodied, soft to average carbonation, quite creamy texture with a dry finish. Much more wood, vinous and sourness than expected which wasn’t bad since it balance out the quite intense sweetness and makes it more drinkable.
3.0 Bottle from Bierkompass. Smell of oak, fruit, sourdough. Very dark brown colour, extreme brown head. Aroma of wine, oak, sour fruit. Some roasted flavours in finish. Medium sour, also bitter. Carbon is lively but quite soft. Surprisingly non-oily texture. Medium dry palate.
4.1 250ml bottle from Leura Cellars. Pours black brown in colour, with a tan foam head leaving lacing and aroma of malt, berry fruity, woody oak, red wine. Taste is malt, caramel, sweetish, berry fruits, woody, red wine, with tangy, spicy bitterness. Oily mouthfeel, medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, woody dry slightly tannic finish. Nicely complex, very drinkable.
