BRLO Berliner Weisse

BRLO Berliner Weisse

Our Berlin style Weisse is to be served ice-cold and straight up – without syrup, of course! This refreshing sour beer is the perfect companion on a hot summer’s day. Even Napoleon fancied this beer style and called it “Champagne du Nord”. For real Berliner!

3.1 Flaska från SB. Klar ljusgul vätska med lågt vitt skum. Laktosyrlig doft med citrus. Lätt kropp, snäll syra, medeltorr. Citrus, yoghurt och vetedeg. Lite anonym. Lättdrucken och ok.
3.1 Tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours opaque gold, with medium grained white foam, limited and irregular. Aroma delicate fruity, some apricot and grapes. Body and carbonation are average. Taste is medium sweet, with delicate acidity. Final is short.
3.7 Bottle. Light malty and yeasty aroma and taste, lemon grass, light to medium sour. Light to medium body, sourish doughy finish. Ok.
4.1 0,33l Flasche. Hellgelbes naturtrübes Bier. Der weisse Schaum zerfällt sofort. Beerig-säuerlicher Duft. Johannisbeere, Stachelbeere, ein Hauch Apfel. Im Geschmack britzeliger Cassis, saure Äpfel. Dann Hefe und eine fruchtige Süsse. Bleibt aromatisch am Gaumen. Gelungene echte Berliner Weisse.
3.9 Berliner Weisse straight from Berlin – more precisely, from BRLO, a modern Berlin brewery founded in 2016, but focusing on traditional German beer styles rather than the postmodern U.S. styles most other contemporary Euro craft brewers are dabbling in. Snow white, moussy, fizzy, loose head, quickly opening and diminishing into virtually nothing; near-clear pale straw blonde robe, turning misty and more golden with sediment added. Aroma of green apples, sourdough, Sekt, celeriac juice, cucumber (as in dark green cucumber peel), straw bales, old rusk crumbs, cottage cheese, chalk, dried garden weeds. Crisp, fruity onset, green apple and unripe melon notes with cucumber and even some banana peel thrown into the mix, tingling carbonation, slender and supple mouthfeel; soft lactic sourishness, a bit ‘sweaty’, eats at the edges of a lean bread-crusty, wheaty and cereally maltiness, but never becomes outspokenly acidic – rather adding a dash of yoghurt and green apple to a bready finish, where a ‘deeper’ layer of very soft sourishness is recognizable as coming from wheat rather than mixed fermentation. Cucumber and chalk impressions linger in the tail. Very softly sour in comparison with most other Berliner Weisses these days – but I am convinced that this one comes closer to the past of the style. After this one, I am left with the impression that – apart from Berliner Kindl many years ago – this BRLO interpretation may well be the most historically accurate Berliner Weisse I ever had. Even Schneeeule – obviously a very important player in this small field and also located in Berlin – is more connected to postmodern U.S. style interpretations of the style… I am quite surprised by this BRLO version in that sense, this Berliner Weisse feels very genuine, traditional and authentic, making me curious for how this brewery treats other old German beer styles.
1.1 No foam.. Sour beer.. Poured it down the sink not for me
3.3 Bottle at BRLO taproom, Berlin, 11/07/19. Pale golden blonde with a good sized white covering. Nose is grass, pale malts, lemon tinged straw, balsa wood. Taste comprises lemon rind, green berry must, grains, straw. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a modest acidic bimble. Ok.
3.9 Very good white head, fast dwindling over clear pale golden beerm lazily bubbled, later still. Weeds, heather, mosses, wheat, lactic acid. Broccoli or other raw I brassica /I. Straw, hay, grass, lactic acid, hint at lemon, refreshing acidity. Wheat obvious. The cabbage, DMS is less in the taste. Nothing is as refreshing as a true Berliner Weisse. It was gone, now it is back.Very apt ultra light body, and despite the still looks, a spritzy MF. Haven't had this taste for decades. Overjoyed, as this is great. Today's craft imitations are just not what was meant by the Champagne of the Spree. This is.

3.1 Old rating from 29-04-16 - A 330ml bottle brought back from Berlin. Pours a hazy golden colour with a white head. Aromas of sour fruits, lemon & wheat. Tastes of wheat, lemons & sour fruit leading to a sour medium dry in bitterness aftertaste.
2.9 Copenhagen 23/1 2021. 33 cl bottle from Brdr. D's Vinhandel, Rolighedsvej, Frb. C. BRLO's usual design with the bear, the corn and the hops this time in a dark blue version. Pours slightly unclear, pale yellow with a mid-sized white head. Quite bubbly. Disappears more or less leaving a thin rim of foam running along the side of the glass. No lacing. Aroma is moderately intense with a sweet maltiness mingling with sour notes. Sweet wheat and lemonade. While sugar. Sharp citric streak. Medium strong carbonation. Thin, watery, lively and tingling texture. Flavor is medium intense with sa light sweetness followed by a medium strong citric sourness. Aftertaste is sour and lingers shortly. Finish is semi-dry. Sour and sweet - but a bit thin.

3.5 Medium tartness, clean flavour, slight coriander on the nose that i don't love. Craft beer store dresden(3.7 dec 2020) Again at Gollem raamsteeg….fruity too much a little lacking balance, not a 3.7, but very well made for the stylr.
3.2 Légèrement acidulé, douce, pas de mousse, belle couleur doree
3.0 A decent beer, but not wonderful

3.2 Bottle in an apartment in Hamburg. Cloudy golden coloured with a small white head. Fruity and light acidic aroma of citrus and lactic acid. Fruity and light acidic flavour of citrus. Tart finish.
3.2 Pale yellow colour; little white foam; nice acidity; high carbonation which fits really good. Classic berliner weiße
2.8 Draught at Rogue Waterfront, Vancouver Cloudy pale blond colour. It's a bit sour, lemony, but mellower than the classic Berliner Weisse I was used to from Berlin.
3.2 Schön sauer, viel Kohlensäure lässt den Gaumen prickeln. Insgesamt süffig, es mangelt im Vergleich zu Gueuze an Finesse und Tiefgang
