[English]: Brøckhouse Esrum Kloster has been developed in cooperation with Esrum Abbey as the modern equivalent to the medieval abbey ale. True to the traditions of the monks, the ale has been adapted to a modern palate.
It is a top-fermented ale brewed with barley, wheat and rye malt along with cane sugar.
Common Balm, meadowsweet, lavender, rosemary, juniper, and aniseeds have been added to the ale, all herbs that grow in the gardens of Esrum Abbey. The colour is maroon, the nose wonderfully strong and the taste especially full and aromatic. This ale goes well with heavy meat dishes such as venison or on its own. Best served at 10-12 degrees celsius.

3.4 22nd May 2010. ChrisOs ’Blue Ridge Mountains Of Virginia’ tasting! Cloudy brown beer. Rich toffeeish malt with some sweetish ginger. Finishes dry. Not bad, the malt and ginger are well balanced. A bit different!
3.4 Bottle at Chris O’s. Cloudy brown pour with an off white head. Good lacing. Licorice, ginger and cloves aromas. Cinammon, raisins, caramel and toffee taste. Malty, sweet and hoppy finish.

3.1 bread, caramel, fudge lakrids,brown/golden, tan foam, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, medium body, oily feel, soft carbonation, too old,one year, but you can not tast it.
3.2 spicy cinnamon and nutmeg notes. similar to Draupnir but with a nice backbone of malts to accentuate the pie spice notes. nice amber color. surprised how much I liked this beer.
4.0 Very smooth and flavorful. Hint of cherry in the nose. Caramel cereal malt with floral grass and citrus. Very nice. Rated 3/17/10
4.0 A huge thanks to Ben for sharing this. Brown color with ample head. A very spicy aroma with ginger and lavender amid the sweetness. The body was somewhat dry, but very complex with the floral notes mentioned in the aroma along with a grainy spiciness and a solid finish.
3.8 Brown color with a medium head. Strong aroma of lavender, honey and ginger. Quite the ecclectic array of flavors here... lavender, strong floral, a bit of rye-pepperiness, dry malt. Lightly yeasty. Really interesting and delicious. Too bad it’s all done.
3.4 Clear brown pour. Very small white head. Gingerbread cookie aroma. Flavor is malty and has some christmas cookie flavor. Spicy and not all that bad.
2.6 Date: August 29, 2009 Mode: Bottle Source: Tasting, Cellar Party Appearance: clear dark ruby red, wispy fine grey head Aroma: huge floral aroma on slightly sweet caramel malt, light spicyness Flavor: sweet malt flavor, balancing floral spicyness leaves a bit of bitterness Aroma: 5/10; Appearance: 6/10; Flavor: 5/10; Palate: 6/10; Overall: 10/20 Rating: 2.6/5.0 Drinkability: 7/10 Score: *4
3.0 bottle thanks to bullzeye. Pours amber, cream head. Aroma of fruit jelly and sugar. Flavor is kind of chemical, overyly sweet, with some spice. Good rate if not a good beer.
3.4 Bottle from Wine and Cheese Place. Pours reddish copper with a fluffy beige head. Very spicey aroma. Medium body with smooth carbonation. Flavor is spice, caramel, and chocolate. Finish is mildly sweet and rather spicey. It’s a lot better than I’m making it sound.
3.3 Bottle 50 cl. pulled from the cellar - this brew witch I back then considered for the best one (I could think of) from this brewery. Poured in an original WestVleteren glass (Thx Mikkel ;-) ) because of the abbay-sound of the name. It honours the monostary near Esrum and I can´t help thinking, that it will try to emitate the classic belgian brothers. The pours is dark reddish brown with a tiny tanned head. The nose is abbay-like, with notes of chocolate, some mild laqurice, vanilla and spices that is similar to danish cough mixture. The taste again calls childhood memories of mums forcing caugh mixture in ones mouth - when that impression is over I also taste the malt notes with the alcohol clearly present. There is a minty laquirice taste like in "Poletter", some hops and sugar. The finish is some how mild bitter with some spices. Not as good as I remember A shame that this brewerie who was a part of the kickstarters of the beer revolution in Denmark.
3.5 Sampled on 10/2/2009. This traditional ale pours a medium brown color from a 50cl swing top bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is malt, spices and sweet. A medium bodied traditional ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy. Spices are ginger and lavender. Nice balance. A touch on the sweet side perhaps. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
3.3 Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. The smell is gingerbread, spices, malts, euculiptus, and ok. The look is clear, brown, with a whitish head. The taste is malts, spices, and decent.
4.0 Appearance: Pours a clear, garnet-hued body with a hearty, whitish head. Smell: Sweetish nose of sugar-coated, toasty malts with distinct notes from the lavender, juniper, and anise, with the juniper being the most prominent of the bunch. Taste: Oven-toasted bread crusts sprinkled with table and brown sugar. Then, in comes a slight juniper berry fruitiness and floral lavender traces. Moderate spiciness. Drying, spicy, finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation. Drinkability: A tasty, enjoyable beer, though, with the brewery long gone, does it really even matter?
3.1 Bottle. Pours an amber beer with a tan head. Ginger with some coriander and anise. Spicy with a prickly carbonation and a hint floral.
3.4 Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Brown in color with an off-white head. Aroma is extremely spicy and is like honey-lemon riccola cough drops with a hint of ginger. Taste is of ginger, grain and malt.
3.3 (500ml bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a small white head. Aroma of ginger, honey, caramel, and herbal notes. Flavor of ginger, caramel malt, and hops (herbal, earthy, floral) with a moderately bitter finish.
2.8 bottle thanks to bu11zeye. brown with a cream head. nose is sweet and spicy. flavor is overly sweet with a spicy finish.
3.0 Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours a clear brown/orange with some red hues. Aroma of some fruit, herbs, medicinal. Flavor of some medicinal, some fruit, plastic. Mouth feel is light-medium body with medium-high carbonation. Overall, it’s ok.
3.3 Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Nose is menthol jelly and luden’s cough gels. Taste is similar.
2.6 Bottle courtesy of bu11zeye. Reddish orange appearance. Little head. Some sweet notes, tad bit of butter. Some light fruit. Taste is of spiced pizza? Different, yet interesting.
2.1 Anticlimax. This should have been the Danish version of a great Belgian monk, but it’s not. It’s oddly unbalanced, with loads of herbs going in different directions, being spicy in a strange way. I don’t get it ...
3.6 Pours reddish brown color with off white head. Floral aromas of lavender and juniper. Some caramel malt. Herbal flavor with toasted caramel and rye, lavender and licorice. Medium body with average carbonation.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a clear, dark, cola-brown color. A thin, broken film sits at the surface, while minimal, splotchy spotting dots the glass. The nose is quite herbal, notes of bright juniper leaves, mint, and lavendar showing most prominently, while dark caramel and toasted wheat comprise the malt base. Flavors are similar, hints of rye shining through along with the wheat, toasty caramel lending sweetness. Herbs are all over the map, from fresh and minty to floral and hoppy. Medium bodied and semi-lively on the tongue, the herbs and the carbonation really lend a peppery kick to the finish. Good brew.
3.5 Floral aroma hits the nose right away, followed by a minty aroma, some ginger and other spices, and lemon balm. Nice reddish brown color, moderate off white head. More clear than hazy. The flavor is fruity, lemony, spicy. The finish has a slight to moderate bitterness, seems more from the lemon than from hops. Moderate to thick mouthfeel, smooth and creamy. Interesting beer in its own right. But I love traditional ales, and I admire brewers who reproduce them.
2.9 Bottle… Clear dark mahogany ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. Herbal aroma is interesting – English lavender, ginger, biscuit and toffee. Light to medium-bodied and very effervescent. Well-balanced, herbal, earthy flavor offers the slightest hint of acidity. Herbal, earthy, minerally finish.
3.6 clear brownish rust under a small frothy beige head. intriguing aromas of mint, wintergreen, tea, herbs, nuts, toffee. a caramel malt backbone is enlightened with the herbal coolness and lively spices all mentioned from the aroma with maybe a few pine needles thrown in. light carbonation with a medium body. more dry than sweet.
2.9 Bottle, 50cl. Pours a clear nutbrown beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is spicy with coriander, staranis and sweetness. The flavor is likewise spicy with staranis, spices, sweetness and a little medical tastes. The palate leaves a spiced sweetness, and overall it is an ok spiced beer, maybe a little too sweet.
