English: Brøckhouse Christmas Beer has everything. It is top-fermented with Belgian yeast and brewed using four different sorts of malt and cane sugar. The taste is profound, warm and full with a distinct touch of chocolate. This is a genuine Abbey Ale with all the fragrances of Christmas: dates, figs, cloves and apricots. The hops are Northern Brewer and aromatic East Kent Goldings.
Brøckhouse Christmas has been stored for 3 months and will keep easily for up to 10 years. It is an ale that goes excellently with the traditional Danish Christmas fare. Best served at 10-12 degrees celsius.

3.7 Sample from a vintage 2006 bottle@RBNAG 2009, Vatlandsvåg. A clear mahogny colored beer with a mediumsized, lightly tanned head on top. Lovely vinous aroma. Cherry, or maybe Port. Also a rounded scent of spiced and toasted malt. Nots of caramel and marzipan. Taste is vinous as well, probably from a light oxidation. Strong malt body. Rounded, with caramel and nuts. Some dark, dried fruits is also noticable. Mouthfeel is lively and quite sparkling, actually. Mild spices and toasted malts linger in the finish. Good stuff.
3.3 Julebryg 2007, sampled 30 dec 2009. Big beige foam that quickly goes down to a thin lace. Dark red color. Spicy aroma with some chocolate. The spices is also present in the taste but blends well with some residual sweetness and a big body. The belgian yest is not giving any special caracter. The 9% alcohol is noticed after some time. Good christmas beer but not in any large quantities.
3.7 500 ml bottle, 2006 vintage sampled@RBNAG 2009, Vatlandsvåg. This rating is compared with my notes for the 04, 05 and 06vintage sampled fresh. Clear mahogany body with a beige head that’s creamy on the fresh version but small and diminishing in the old version. Aroma of light burnt malt, some caramel and spicy – the old version has less burnt aroma and a light pleasant butterscotch impression together with Madeira. The flavor is mainly malt driven, with a hint of roasted caramel and spices. Balanced bitterness and a hint of warming alcohol, this becomes more like dry fruit and Madeira in the old version. This is a damn good Belgium inspired Christmas beer served fresh and becomes more Barley Wine’ish when matured. A totally different beer, I like them both but luckily I had many occasions to sample this and prefer a one year storage version.
3.9 20-NOV-2009, bottle @home. 2008 version, bought resently. I still have some left from last year, an as far as I remember also previous years. Dark brown and a little dull look, with huge head. Impressing for a 1 year old beer. Nice liqour-like taste with some dusty, spicey notes, like cinnamon. Very breadlike (rugbrød), brown sugar. very creamy, quite high carbonation, but actually a little less than I would have guessed from the high head. Still one of the best danish X-mas brews. Brøckhouse, please reopen;-) 04-DEC-2009, bottle, Ulkløbben @Michael. Brought the 2006, 2007, and 2008 to our meeting. We tasted them blind. and revealed the bottles, when we had tasted them all. First served was what turned out to be the 2007. Very port-like, nutty (walnuts). Sediments, low but nice carbonation, a little dusty in the taste. My guess, and most others, is that this is the 2006, but we are wrong. Next served was the 2008. Brown sugar, spicey, not port-like. More carbonation than the previous. Not alcoholic. No one is in doubt. this is the freshest of the three, and must be the 2008, and it is. Then the 2006 is served. Port-like again, but more carbonation and more head than the first (2007). This is the beer, that most of us prefer as a perfect "mean" between the fresh 2008 and the "older" 2007. Well, Faurschou guessed them all as the only one. I do not know what fooled the rest of us? But again all three are wonderfull beers. A nice experiment.
3.8 Despite some oxidation, this 2005 bottle carelessly cellared for four years was probably the best Danish Xmas beer I’ve tried. Sherry pairs well with Xmas pud, and the oxidation melded fairly seamlessly with the beer’s figgy, clovey characteristics. This didn’t seem a million miles away from the Traquair House Ale at the same session. Sweet but no overly so. Big warming finish. Nice. 񢉕 bottle courtesy of Papsoe - thanks buddy - at the Sep 2009 ’Drunk in the Park’ gathering at Milsons Point)
3.4 50 cl bottle. Dark reddish body with small brown head. Flavour is roasted malt, spices, lots of fruit and notes of coffee.
3.4 Bottle, 2006 vintage, courtesy of TheCheeseMan. Pours mahogany with scant head. Cranberries, malty sweetness, brown sugar and xmas spices. Sweet and spicy with earthy hops, lots of plums and slightly mushy fruits. Low carb, nice finish, slightly tannic from spices.
3.3 2008 edition! Dark reddish color with brown long lasting head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Enters the mouth with a rather rich palette but leaves a somehow messy picture dominated by anise. Actually I like the beer even as it is not splendid.
2.7 I think it is a sign of the times that I was rather disappointed in the 2008 version. Sure, it was OK and I dare say it will improve a little if left, but it was just not as good as the 2005 or 2006. Or was it? I think it may well have been, but, pioneers as Brøckhouse were in the Danish microbeer explosion, they are now being left behind and our palates have matured. Now it seems thin, unbalanced and one-dimensional.
3.4 Strond and sweet to a level where it is almost too much. Not a bad beer by any means, but it could be more well balanced.
3.5 Bottle: Clear, but many floaties visible, small beige foamy layer, sweet nutty and toasty nose; solid sweet-spicy flavour, medium bodied, soft MF; christmas spices in the lingering sweet-bitter, light alcoholic finish. Good, nourishing Ale............
3.4 (Bottle, 50cl, 2006 vintage) Pours a mahogany body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, honey, nuts, dates, clove, and caramel. Flavor of roasted malt, molasses, honey, nuts, caramel, and candi sugar.
3.2 Bottle (2006)... NFL Day at dchmela’s in O-Town... Hazy, dark ruby ale with basically no head. Fruity, vinous, malty nose. Full-bodied and syrupy with minimal carbonation. Lots of sweet, dark fruit in the flavor. Lengthy, sweet finish. Thanks to TheCheeseMan for sharing this beer!
3.3 2006 bottle courtesy the Cheeseman. Brownish watery pour. Malty fruity sweet aroma. Sweet malt and candi sugar sweetness in the taste. May have a bit too much sweetness all around, but good for a holiday beer.
3.3 The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass also. Dark, almost black. Tastes modest malty, alcoholic, a bit prickly, scratchy finish. Not bad!
3.4 bottle,2006, thanks to bu11zeye, pours an amber color with tan colored head, nose is sour with a caramelized cherry flavor, also can be a little hot from the alcohol, leathery and dry finish
3.3 Bottle thanks to Bu11zeye. Pours a dark brown with beige head. Aroma of raisin/dark fruit, some spice. Flavor is sweet with dark fruit and alcohol. Mouthfeel is light body and fizzy.....overall, not bad.
3.7 Bottle thanks to Bu11zeye. Pours a mahogany color with a small creamy head. NOse is belgian candy sugar, honey, mulling spices, and some dark fruit such as dates. Taste is surprisingly weak after that nice nose. Sugar, spice, malt, a bit watery mouthfeel, and not a lot of back end bitterness or acid. Not bad but the nose was the real fun.
3.4 2006 bottle thanks to bu11zeye.. Thought this was a brown or even a mild because of the malt heavy and low, non alpha hop profile. Pours with a light brown head, covering a dark brown body. Aroma of dark furits, caramel and pitted fruits. Taste is a bit sour and metallic at first, but towards the end there ar dark fruits and some coffee malts. Lightly fizzy. Interesting beer.
4.0 A strong, sweet ale with hints of fruit and spices, the most dominant fruit taste is apricots. Finish is slightly bitter, rounding out the taste. There is only a slight alcohol taste, so it goes down smooth for being such a strong beer. It also pairs well with heavy food.
3.7 Aroma: sweetish, sourish, almond, tulips, wheat, rustic hops... warm malt, fruity... bizarrely ’piquant’. Nice. Flavour: bittersweet, deep malty flavour. Dried fruit. Chocolate. Sweet tobacco. Powerful. Hot. Roasted & liquorice aftertaste. Fortified wine. Flowery. Appearance: very dark brown, foggy. Yellowish (bone) head. Small bubbles, lacing. Palate: very good. Full-bodied, thick. Very reasonable moderate carbonation. Vinous.
4.1 Bottle 50 cl. Pours a dark brown colour with lasting off-white head. Aroma is spices (cinnamon, liquorice), coffee, a little chocolate, and nuts. Flavor is much of the same with the alcohol giving it a very pleasant boost. I think this is very balanced. Excellent beer.
4.0 Bottle 0.5 l. Bought superbest Hilleroed. Pleasant spice aroma - cinnamon, clove and liquorice. Dark brown colour with large head. Complex spicy taste in accordance with the aroma. Longlasting sweet, spicy taste. A Christmas beer which can be enjoyed all year round.
2.8 Aarhus, DK Bottled High carbonation for a Christmas beer. Dark and spiced Too much alcohol taste present
4.1 Clear brown of color with a creamy beige head. An aroma of fruits, coffe, chocolate and nuts. A flavor of roasted malt, spice, coffee and chocolate.
3.6 Bottled, alc. 9.0 %, vintage 2007 (BB 09/2012) Ruby/cherry red, hazy, steady creamy beige head. Chocolaty, a bit yeasty nose, some spices. Quite full bodied, yeasty, Christmasy spices: cinnamon, clove. Alcohol and chocolate are present, maybe even a bit too alcoholic, it ruins many other nuances in the beer, propably improves after ageing. Ok Christmas dessert beer, perhaps a bit too much yeastyness.
3.7 Bottled (thanks omhper!, 9.0%). Deep rubyish amber colour with mediumsized creamy beige head. Aroma is raisins, alcohol, sweet malts some hints of fudge and caramel. Flavour licorice, hoppy bitterness turning into very sweet caramel/fudge along with spices and some yeast. Quite nice balance.
2.4 Dark brown with a low head. Spicy aroma with notes of liquorice and sugar. The flavour is sweet and breadlike with complex malts, liqourice root and a finishing bitternes. I found it unbalanced.
3.8 Nice creamy coffeeish aroma. Reminds me of an irish coffee. Taste is sweet, fruity and firey. Nice one.
3.4 Bottle, 2007 edition. Dark with a small head, does not fade away but leaves a small cover. Ripe aroma of bananas and cherries. Flavor is yeasty with added spices. Starts of smooth but the alcohol starts to "burn" in the finish giving it the winter beer character. Malty on the palate.
