2.5Had this in tap at Busy Bee, Raleigh-Apr2010. I didn’t get much bourbon from this and tbh it would have been welcomed for better balance. This beer was not as expected. It was cloyingly sweet. Good nose. Strong vanilla, very strong caramelized notes give way to noticeable alcohol on the back end.
3.9found some old notes, served on tap. Dark brown color, can’t see through the liquid but it’s red up to the light, small head. Lots of dark fruits and oak to smell, rich roasty malts, some cola. Rich and flavorful taste of roasty malt, oak, vanilla. slightly sweet. lots of wood in the taste. Mouthfeel is super smooth with moderate carbonation. Overall it’s all about the wood, rich and heavy flavor.
3.4Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, light roasted malt and caramel. Flavor is quite sweet and light bitter. Sweet and roasted bitter finish. Poured by Garrett Oliver at the Copenhagen Beer Festival 2010. 070510
3.4On tap at the blind tiger. Pours a nice mahogany brown with a decent head. Not much on the nose. Little bit of smoke and fat resembling deep fried aromas. Not liking the nose. Getting past that to the taste, the beer picks up remarkably. Sour cherries and brandy/bourbon come through very nicely. Mouth feel is a little watery. All in all a very interesting beer
4.0Draft. Pours mahogany brown with a thin beige head. Sweet nutty and fruity aroma with toasted malts and a light bourbon hint. The flavor has sweet chestnut, dark fruits, chocolate, toast and light bourbon sweetness. Really good.
3.9Draft at the gate.dark black. Fruity, sourish taste. Almost like a quad. Really deliiciois and flavorful
3.6The beer is brown in color, light tan head, nothing special. The aroma and taste as you would expect are very nutty. The nut on the aroma is ok, but it overwhelms the taste and makes it just all about it. The feel and drinkability are ok, but nothing special
3.9On tap at Ebenezer’s Pours out a dark brown almost black topped with a small tan head. Aroma was sweet, roast malts, vanilla, caramel, pit fruit, and some wood. Taste was much as the aroma with the sweetness leading the way caramel, and vanilla.

4.0(Sample Date: 5/4/2010 Source:Capital Ale House - Downtown) Chocolate and coffee with vanilla and wood in aroma. Black with a tan head. Flavor follows aroma with a nice play between bourbon vanilla and maybe some resiny hops. Finish is medium sweet with whiskey and vanilla residual.

3.2Might have to rerate this later since I just had a taste but this was quite the beer. I personally didn’t care for it however it was quite complex. Very strong wheat flavor. Definitely had that aged bourbon barrel taste, very smoky. Black pour with a tan head.
3.7Draft. Pours murky deep brown, topped with a small tan head. Aroma of vanilla and cocoa, with bourbon taking the back seat. Flavor begins with chocolate and oak, with vanilla in the background. The bourbon comes through towards the finish, and clings to the palate, along with cocoa. Exceptionally smooth.

Sweetish malty caramel and chocolate flavor with vanilla hints. Has a sweetish malty caramel finish with some woody hints in the aftertaste.
3.9pours deep brown...not quite black...with a medium tan head. retention and lacing arent impressive. aroma has notable vanilla and bourbon with hints of caramel and roastiness. flavor has sweet vanilla, some woodiness, caramel, and spicy hops...bourbon is an afterthought. mouthfeel is slightly lively with a light yet creamy mouthfeel. finish is mildly warming and has a hint of bourbon and spicy hops that balance the roasty malts nicely.
3.8No head, clear dark brown, looks very flat... huge vanilla bourbon nose, but a definite bland aroma underneath... a little lively on the tongue on the back end, flat up front... lots of lingering vanilla, not as bourbony as vanillay... dark fruits, not hoppy... very very good... medium full body, a little sticky as it goes...
3.522 oz bottle @Jimmack Invitational thanks Pat–pours a light tan ring for a head and brown color. Aroma is bourbon/wood, sweet medium/dark malt. Taste is bourbon/wood, sweet medium/dark malt, dark fruit.
3.5Brown and well carbonated. Moderate hops. The bourbon is there, but it complements the sweet malt, which is the primary character of this beer.

3.8On tap at KØ-10, poured by G.O. It’s a clear, brown beer topped by a small, beige head. Looking really nice. Typical brown ale aromas, with caramel and dried fruits. Not much impact from the barrels neither in aroma nor in the mouth. Caramel and lots of fruityness in the flavor, mostly of the dark, dried kind. Full-bodied and super-smooth in the mouth. Lasting finish with fruits and roasted malts. A really pleasant and balanced beer. 100507

3.9Sample at Jackie O’s BBDA and Oil of Aphrodite Release and Barrel aged Beer Festival on 9/11/10. Pours a murky deep brown color with a medium off-white head that dissipates slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, oak and vanilla. Medium to full body with flavors of roasted malt, caramel, dark fruit and vanilla. The finish is roasty and woody with a dark malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
3.8Sample during Jackie O’s BBDA and Oil of Aphrodite Release and Barrel aged Beer Festival on 9/11/10. Dark brown pour with a medium tan head. Caramel malt nose with bourbon and fruit notes. Flavor starts with caramel and vanilla, then adds fruit and a bit of hop before a creamy finish. Still maintained a nice dryness and a bit of roastiness throughout that I wouldn’t have expected for the style.
